FFC #1 - My Writing Shcedule

Greetings.

I originally planned on opening this post with a long-winded attempt at epicness, but after going down several rabbit trails and still getting nowhere, I decided a more direct approach would be better.

I've decided to start a series of blogs to keep my readers updated with where I am concerning my fan fiction. That being said, the main reason is that I just want to write about where I'm at, because it helps me look at my progress objectively, and see things I'm missing or need to do.

It makes sense that I should open this first entry by defining my writing schedule, as I see it:
  1. Complete Dan's Tale.
  2. If I haven't figured out phase 1 of my novels yet, do it now.
  3. Develop my final fan fiction series. Complete the first installment.
  4. Finish the development of my novel series.
  5. Add installments to final fan fiction series as need/interest arise.
  6. Complete first novel.
  7. Go through publishing process, refine if rejected.
  8. Get first novel published.
  9. Continue to write installments for final fan fiction series when able.
  10. If novel is a success, proceed with rest of series. If not, refine process and either return to series, or begin work on second series/stand-alone.
As you can see, I am nearing the end of my fan fiction run. I intend my final fan fiction to be an infinite series, meaning I can theoretically just drop by whenever I want and add another short book. That way I will never stop writing fan fiction, without having to develop a whole new story every time.

At the moment, this infinite series is titled By Any Other Path. However, given that the development for it was scrapped, that title is liable to change once I start developing the series again.

The fan fiction I am currently working on, Dan's Tale, is titled Horizon in Sight. It is designed as an infinite series, though I intend it to only be 2-4 fan fictions long. I like the direction it's taking, though I've hit a bit of a slump in interest for it. Due mainly to...

The novels. It's easy to get excited about my novels because I love to design things, and the world is not yet built, meaning there's a lot to design. This strange desire to design tends to pull interest away from everything else, including Dan's tale. At the moment, I'm highly excited about my novels, as I'm trying to complete phase 1.

Phase 1 itself needs a little explanation. Anyone who's bothered to read this far probably knows that I've made a process for developing fan fictions and novels. That process is broken up into phases, and the first phase - phase 1 - deals with the thematic structure. This phase defines the basic framework the rest of the development fits into. It defines the main conflict, the setting and atmosphere, the main character and important side characters, the beginning and end, plus a lot of other critical things. Without phase 1 done, there's no telling what kind of world I need to design for my novels. Which is why I want to complete phase 1 before I start designing.

You can follow my progress and interest by watching my signature. I'll also write up additional blog entries as things change, keeping you updated.

I'd also like to open the comments up to criticism and suggestions about my writing in general. If there's something you think I could improve, now is the time to mention it, as I am literally recreating my structure as I develop Dan's tale. Also, if there is - or was - any aspect of my writing that you really enjoyed, be sure to let me know. I don't want to bury the things I had right, under the things I had wrong.

Until then, keep reading!

I have a unique dillema with my novels. Things are working well. They are working so well, in fact, that I'm sure something must be wrong. Even my process is saying there is a big deviant in there, but everything is working despite going in the opposite direction is should be going.

So while I let that stew, I'm back in action with HiS. Finally moving along in the development.

UPDATE: Now I'm up to the HUGE credibility check. This is something I've always mostly skipped over in the past, assuming everything was fine, but in reality being too lazy to do it properly. What a credibility check entails is basically making sure everything - everything - makes sense and is realistic. That means I have to check over everything I've developed so far. I have no idea how long it will take.

Keep writing! It's hard but completely worth it.

I think ahead and imagine myself on my death bed and wonder what my regrets will be. Top always seems to be "i wish I'd written more"....
