Pack 2
ORCS AND ANIMATA
Brute Gruts - Utgar
Sentinels of Grax - Einar
The Orcs and Animata pack brings you a pair of unique melee squads. The Brute Gruts add punch to an old favorite race from Grut, and the Sentinels expand a new race from C3V's addition to the known planets, Arctorus.
Nobody knows who created the Sentinels of Grax or why. They only know that when the Sentinels emerge from their towering obelisk in the salt flats north of the Keung River, death will follow.
The figures used for this unit are Cardinal Raker and Cardinal of the UCT, Galactic Guardians Marvel Heroclix Singles #003 and #016.
The Orc armies of Grut are not known for orderliness or discipline. They are feared because of their savagery, and the most fearsome of all the fighters are assigned to the elite unit of Brute Gruts. The life of a member of the Brute Gruts is one to which all the Orcs aspire: nasty, brutish, and short.
The figure used for this unit are orc figures from the Dungeon Command Blood of Gruumsh set.

In case you are living under a metaphorical rock (i.e. you don't check the SoV thread regularly), we've recently inducted two units for your enjoyment!
First is Urk, designed by superfrog (that's me!) and Ninja Status. He's a nasty little goblin bugger who commands troops around him and can hit hard if he gets set up right. Just watch and make sure he doesn't get killed before he gets into the action.
The figure used for this unit is the Silent Wolf Goblin from the Dungeons and Dragons Aberrations set.
Our final 2016 inductee is Ashi-Dhulu, a fun MegaSilver design. Like Grimnak, he can auto-insta-kill opponent's figures. Unlike Grimnak, he can do it from 4 spaces away. Don't leave your Sentinels too close, because the Arctoran worm is not to be tempted
The figure used for this unit is the Great Worm figure from the Reaper Legendary Encounters set.

Fun units. Unique Squads FTW. Will definitely be playing Sentinels of Grax - I already have the figures and they seem like a fun addition to any army.
I like the Brute Gruts too (I will proxy in home games with Hobbit/LOTR Heroclix Orcs, but might by the "official" set). However, I think they are better with Blade Gruts than Heavy Gruts, as most times I would rather have another squad of Heavies than the Brutes, but with Blades, you may need one squad of heavy hitters you want to add and you should have the points to add. Ashi-Dhulu is awesome as it gets an insta-kill plus a normal attack. Great in a mish-mash army. I need to get my hands on some more D&D goblins before I can use Urk, but definitely helps the Gooblins' viability. Interesting that all these units are Sharks or Menacers according to What's In an Order Marker P.S. I will update my C3V/SoV cards @ 3/page PDF to add Wave 20/CV7 and SOV 2016 inductees once all of the wave is released. |

Awesome work all around!
I love seeing more unique squads. I think they are especially challenging to get the designs right. I'm not thrilled about cards that require additional markers, but in this case, it's a unique design and makes for some really interesting choices. I'm really curious what you've got brewing for the other figures in that set! |

Wow those unique squads are hella cool.
Already saw the SoV, good stuff. Didnt even realize that Urk works with HSB too, that's really interesting. |

I like the design of the Brute Gruts but the name is throwing me off.
Seems close to the Hornskull Brutes .. who are actual brutes as a class. The Brute Gruts are Warriors and not Brutes (probably for Grimnak/Tornak bonuses). Was a different name considered? |

no, actually, I just went back and checked, they were Brute Gruts from start to finish.
It all makes sense to me, though, if you take Brute as an adjective of sorts. Just like the Arrow Gruts class isn't Arrows. It just describes how they fight. They're brutish fighters. |

Great job guys. I was in awe of the stats on the Brute Gruts until I seen they were unique. Very well done. Bonus, I already have figures for the sentinals. Even have one extra actually. I may just make an ashi dhulu like I made my big purple worm, just smaller.
