GenCon Rocked

Posted August 25th, 2009 at 07:41 PM by Hendal
Just sitting here, enjoying memories of GC, man Heroscape is just the best game ever, I think the people that play it are a also a lot cooler then most games. It is just such a great group of people and so much fun to hang out with. The scapers are very polite and fun to talk to. You also don´t have to worry about people being rude or stealing your stuff. I left my bag of figures and cards in between almost every match to hit the head and I never once thought to worry about my stuff. I just left it on the table where my last game was played and picked it up before the next one started. After getting 2nd in the championship I just left a pile of winning by the wall and never even worried about any of it walking off ( OK i did keep the dice in my pocket ).

I had the wrong guy to go with the card, or not enough 10th and used a couple of MM and no one ever said a thing, my Marcus was missing an arm and people just laughed and said no worries. Heck I saw people with out cards just making them up with a pen and paper and no one cared at all. I would like to see someone do that in a magic tourament?

Having Craig around to talk to or sign stuff is just to awesome and a great touch that makes the game even better. Having such cool people in charge who love the game and want to play as much as I do is also very cool also.

I had planned on playing less HS this year and runnig around more, but once I got there I knew Scape was all that mattered to me. I met a lot of new people this year and had a blast cheering them on in their games and getting to play against people who are just really really cool. I know next year HS is the main thing and I plan on getting more then just 2 sets of GC dice next year - not sure how I will do this, but hey I am aloud to dream.

I definetly want to bring some things that will make the HSérs section even cooler then it was this year, not sure if that is possible, but maybe I can think of something ( I thought a cooler with water would be nice, a couple of matts to stretch on or lie down on - OK that is more for me and my bad back but it would be nice for a lot of people I think). More Chocolate from Costa Rica to give out. I almost made shirts this year, but $ was a issue, I hope it won´t be next year and I can make shirts to give out, something funny but HS related.

OK, this site rocks, The whole crew that set up GC heroscape rocks even harder, and I am still convinced this is teh best game out there!

Scape features a great game and a great community! The recent Islandscape was similar. There is a comradely atmosphere among other gamers as well sometimes, and I find Scapers I am meeting also play other games. So I'd say Scape is a great way to meet good people and expand your entire gaming experience!

Some kids showed up without their cards. We let them write 'em up. There was no way I was going to prevent them from playing. I let them borrow dice and markers, too! It was all good.

Glad you made it the the Con, Hendal.

next year: coffee, coffee, coffee

thanks all! Rycean - 2 years running you where the Man, or at least the guy I thought was the coolest at the tourney ( I mean besides me of course, he he ). I have to admit it felt good sitting on my porch today hanging out with the Monkeys, I was thinking I have to get a HS board set up there to start getting practice in for next year, lol.

I really want to go to GenCon next year. I'm a teacher, and this year, classes began the Monday before GenCon. I read somewhere that 2010 GenCon will be moved up a week earlier. Anyone know if that's true?

Cool, although now I discover that NASFiC is the same weekend. Given that I also write fantasy, it might be a good idea to go to that instead- it's also much closer to Atlanta. We'll see how things are going next summer. I'll be attending other cons for my books, so maybe I can take one just to play games. (This, of course, is assuming I can even get that Friday off.)
