Week @ Heroscapers, October 13

Image of the Week
This week's image is brought to us by BurnyFlame, known for his red text, which can be hard on the eyes sometimes . In his cleverly titled What's in an Order? thread, he commemorates his 100th post with the awesome image above.
Event of the Week
The Ohio Valley Association of Heroscapers (OVAH) had a tournament this Saturday. 'Scaper Marduk ran the event, which was a prelude to their NHSD event in Kentucky. Outforblood created one of the maps that was used for the tournament, his prize for winning previously. Unfortunately, he couldn't keep his winning streak going as Utgarsrage beat him out for first (he placed second).
Thread of the Week
The B.I.V has started a thread to talk about cheerleaders. Not the ones you need to save before you save the world though. He's talking about the ones you need to kill, or in his thread's case, not kill. The discussion circulates about who is the best unit to target: the unit targeting you or the one supporting it.
Blog of the Week
We all know R˙chean at this point; however, his blog has been untouched until recently. His first new entry shows us the Quality in Cover Fire. He lists which units work well with Agent Skahen's Cover Fire. Check it out to find which unit is most improved! His second entry asks you to Hold the Clone when using the Marro Warriors. He breaks down what makes the marros so good, but never mentions water clone. He says "If you have Water Cloned 3 or more times in a game, you are probably losing."
Non-HS Gaming Review
Welcome again 'scapers! For those wondering where we went, the Non-HS Gaming portion is moving to a biweekly format in order to make room for keetacongoo's "strategy" articles.
Songs of Blades and Heroes is a game much like our beloved Heroscape with a few small differences in game play. It can be played on a hex grid, it can be played with HS figures, with plenty of uses for a single figure, and best of all? It costs less than $10 for the pdf of the rulebook!
Activation is determined by a dice roll: you decide which unit you wish to activate, roll a number of dice, and depending on numbers of successes and failures rolled you can move, attack, or your turn passes to your opponent. There is a lot of risk management involved in this technique, and it adds a bit of luck, as well as statistical analysis to get you moving. Attacks and Range are set in three lengths: short, medium, and long, and each has a set number of hexes attached to it.
Finally, combat. Much like activation you roll, and depending on successes against failures, you could injure, kill, or be injured/killed by an opponents figure. You attack and defend with the same die roll!
There are two expansion booklets available, with a third on it's way. Check out the BGG Entry here.
Custom of the Week
Hey scapers! Lack of snowy trees got you down? There are Good snowy trees at Michael's just for you! These trees are a similar size to HS trees, with 6 being size ten, 10 of them being mini-sized, probably about the height of your average figure, 3 being as tall as the big tree, but take up less space base-wise, and two being jumbo trees. All of them come in one pack, and cost around 15 dollars.
Week in Review
NHSD is in less than a week and people are certainly preparing for it. The 540 point army thread is full of ideas for 'scapers who need some army-building help before the big day and 'scapers are getting together to hold practice for the big day (such as at the OVAH tournament), with some people practicing the day before. Many events have great prize support, with vendors like wargamersheadquarters.com, housemousegames.com, and vixentorgames.com stepping up, along with our own 'scapers and WotC. Be ready for an awesome time as all the 'scapers are coming out to play!
