Horgle Preview
Yeah... so... about that customs project I started back in... ummmmm... *cough* 2006...

In the next couple of weeks I'll be releasing the first set of the Horgle units, just like I mentioned in this very blog back in August... of 2009...
I'll be posting JPGs here of the four units, but will also be uploading a printable PDF file for folks to download, with a custom card back should you be that much of perfectionist when making cards. Also included in the PDF will be the names of the figures I used for each unit.
This particular unit will be uploaded in PDF form at the same time. Originally, the unit was going to be released last year during GenCon as an 'exclusive' of sorts. So I figured I'd post him as a bit of a sneak peak of the Horgle card I designed based on the classic style cards for Heroscape.

As I said in your last blog post about this... I'm glad to finally see these guys released. Hopefully for real this time.
![]() And, perfectly honest, it's even better than I expected. Beautiful aesthetically (of course, we can't expect any less from you, can we?), and I like the mechanics. Definitely gives a "horde" feel to it, and the Boulder Throw is very fun. I like abilities that take advantage of "vanilla" tiles like rock and road. I assume the rest of the Horgles will have similar "strength-in-numbers" style abilities? Which is something I'm a fan of, myself, and seems all the more relevant now with D&D pumping out common and uncommon heroes like crazy. |

Thanks! Yeah, the card itself went through a couple revisions since I first started. And I do like this version, a lot.
![]() Not to give too much away, but the remaining Horgle units will be unique heroes. Eventually they'll have something of a 'horde' mentality. But the original intent of the units was to help round out armies with an offering of low cost fillers, done so with custom units which were easy to incorporporate without them being game changers. |

And I thought I took a long time on my projects.
![]() The card looks very nice hextr1p but I have one question: What's a Horgle? Is it something you've come up with or is it based on some creature from another game/book/movie? I tried Googling it but they thought I was talking about them. Google: Did you mean: Google? |

![]() 1. This is very nice. 2. That being said, its a Rock space, not a "stone" space. |

AliasQTip: Yes, 'Horgle' is a term I came up with. I wanted to try and come up with something new so as to not overlap with other existing races which may be introduced to Heroscape, either officially or as someone else's custom. Though someone did point out that the name sounds a little like, "Hoggle." Which is a race from the movie, 'Labrynth.'
CHAS: Yeah, that's something I also really hat... err, HEY! Wait a minute! ![]() |

Brute Strength should read:
"For each additional Battle Brute in your army, this Battle Brute rolls 1 additional die when attacking and defending, up to a maximum of 2 extra die." Unless you wanted every figure in your army to roll up to 2 additional attack and defense die... |

If no one else but you calls 'em Horgles, what are the miniatures called?

Actually, all the miniatures I use for this project are from the Mage Knight line. And all are Orcs.
And just so long as the computer didn't suggest they be called, "Huggles." That name just doesn't sound at all menacing! Though I guess a 'Higgle' could be a baby Horgle... hmmmm... |

"Higgle" is a little used work that has the same meaning as "haggle".

Awesome. I love your cards! They are amazing. I like the horde feel. I may have to get some of these guys.

Really sweet custom!
As to the meaning of Horgle, Wikipedia tells me Horg was a former municipality in Norway. Also, Horgle and the king's soup is apparently a book of some sort written by Gilda Cordero- Fernando and published in the Phillipines. What goes on inside your head, hextr1p? ![]() |

AliasQTip: So... I couldn't haggle with a higgle...?
tcglkn: Thanks for the kind words. As mentioned before, I'll be sure to include the miniature that I use for the customs. Most of them are relatively inexpensive, and can be found on eBay. I wanted to try and make these units as accessible to people as possible. Pickledpie: Thanks! Hmmmm... so perhaps 'Horgle' isn't as original as I had thought. No matter. I doubt Gilda's Horgle are as intimidating or greedy in their mercenary ways as mine. ![]() ![]() |
