My First Blog: Cleon News

Posted July 26th, 2010 at 12:51 PM by Cleon
Hey all. I've been wanting to do a blog and continue a series of blogs for some time. So here it is, the first of many! I wanted to share details about some recent and future things.

I have moved into a new room that we created in my house. Before now I had all of my Heroscape stuff up at my Dad's house where I first got the game and have played tons of games and tournaments with my friends and family. The problem was, his house is a good 15 min. drive away and I only got to see my Heroscape a few times every two weeks. As I grew older I wanted to be with my collection more and decided to move it all down to my place where I had easier and frequent access to it. It took a good 5 months to pack it all, renovate three rooms at my Mom's, and move in. It could have been quicker but at the time I was occupied with school.

I am now in Heroscape heaven and get to be every day. School's out and I picked an easier and relaxed schedule/classes for the fall. I've just got to playing games again and loving the essense of scape (which is painfully hard to go without for so long). Finally, everything is coming along and going well.

During the "dark time" and when I first unpacked I realised I wanted to do a lot more with my collection for the community and love of the game. I decided my motto is to contribute more and to comment less. Or for one example, more threads, blogs, and thought-out posts over random compliments, speculations, etc.

A few days ago I counted my Heroscape figure count because I haven't updated in awhile to discover I have 1,900 figures. That's #13 on the site! Along with my large collection I've been a fan of the game since it first came out in '04 and on the site since '07. I've been to close to twenty events, have a solid tournament record, I am friends with most celebrities of the community, and know the entire ins and outs of the game and it's following. With all that and more I found out I want to put it to use and become a hardcore contributor to the fans and the game.

So what inspired me on top of that? I've admired the fans of this game who have made their way to the top for some time. And other dedicated fan groups that have become apart of other games and have similar stories to how they got there to those like truth.

After searching around other games I've seen really awesome support around FLGS's and small town events for them. Hosting tourneys, recruiting fresh fans, and showing the game off. It's always been like that for my childhood gaming with my friends and brother and his friends. Magic, Pokemon, and more always had that support. Once I found Heroscape and broke off from those games (I was never into those game as much as Heroscape at all) I always wanted my game, Heroscape, to become what those games were with our group. But now that gaming is kind of dead in my area I have forgotten that feeling for a good four years. However, I recently found more of this cool support for games that are still shining over the internet, specifically youtube. Miniwargaming is a group dedicated to Warhammer games and has such a great promotion of them. Teamcovenant supports Monsterpocalypse, a game I recently got to see if it's a fun game I could play on the side of 'scape or SW, and also has neat vids and contributions. Tabletopbattlefield does lots of games, including a bit of 'scape, through podcasts and more. Good stuff. Heroscape lacks this certain support or to a degree in my opinion. I'm going to try and start this for Heroscape (and a bit for Summoner Wars) by greater contributing to what I have been.

I titled this "Cleon News" because I wanted to also share the upcomming things I wish to do for the game and y'all. To keep it short, first, I made a youtube account and will upload vids of all kinds for the game. All of my pictures (and maybe vids) will be shared here. Look out for more threads by me; new ways to play the game, a map thread, etc. Lastly I will enjoy loving the game at home, teaching new players to get better and better at my house, and having fun with my friends here when I see them at New England events and GenCon.

Thanks for reading and I hope to make these things happen.

I definitely know about the HeroScape collection separation issue. My parents have been divorced since I was one with 50-50 custody, so it was difficult for me to find a way in which I could maximize the Scape with me at any given time. I tried splitting my collection up evenly, but one of each common squad or just a select few squads didn't appeal to me. I finally decided on grouping it all together at one house-which wasn't a big deal since my houses were only 15 minutes apart. Until my dad up and moved 2.5 hours north. That combined with me going to college and working in a different city than either parent has made it that much harder to get my 'scape on.

Good luck to you sir!

Nice first blog, and best wishes for all your projects. Many, many years ago my parents sold their house, and I had to triage my toy soldier collection. The decisions I made then are still with me, 30 years later...

Much thanks for the pos responses.

Yeah, multiple homes can be hard on your stuff scattered from place to place. I don't really have any other problems with it, and I've made it over that one.

I suppose I should link the groups I mentioned:
