MegaSilver's Tournament
Congrats to MegaSliver, who ran and won his first tournament earlier today!
Unfortunately only four competitors total were able to make it, but it was very fun regardless.
Here are my armies and how my matches went.
"A Guy Ritchie Movie"
300 Granite Guardians x3
110 Airborne Elite
090 Warden 816
"Chainmail Bikini"
240 Iron Man
140 Axegrinders of Burning Forge x2
120 Mogrimm Forgehammer
Game 1 vs jschild on Failed Negotiations
"Chainmail Bikini" vs "Cap's Valiant"
220 Captain America
140 4th Mass. x2
140 Knights of Weston x2
The whole game was very close, with Iron Man falling first, then Captain America close behind. It came down to a slightly wounded Mogrimm against a whole squad of 4th. Tough won the day and I went 1-0 with a 1/2 dead dwarf.
Game 2 vs MegaSilver on Failed Negotiations
"Guy Ritchie" vs "Snowfire Lizard"
185 Nilfhiem
185 Zelrig
120 Greenscale Warriors x2
In complete contrast to game 1, this was a blowout...and unfortunately not in my favor. Rounds 1 and 2 consisted of him consistently rolling 3+ skulls every attack, while my defense looked like this
. By the time the AE Dropped, it was all but over and all I could do to kill the Greenscales and put 2 wounds on Big Z.
Game 3 vs jschild's child on UnMarvelous
"Chainmail Bikini" vs "Phantom Menace"
260 Grok Riders x2
140 Phantom Knights x2
090 Ne-Gok-Sa
010 Isamu
This game was much more in my favor, with only a few dwarves going down while he couldn't puncture Iron Man's armor. Iron Man simply flew around and cleaned up the board.
Game 4 vs jschild on UnMarvelous
"Chainmail Bikini" vs "Green Sting"
210 Charos
120 Greenscale Warriors x2
120 Marro Stingers x2
050 Marro Warriors
Charos had failed jschild in his previous matches and continued to disappoint him here. Iron Man took him out quickly. Mopping up the rest of the army, I didn't take too many casualties, with Mogrimm and pals even killing 3 MWs in a single turn.
Game 5 vs MegaSliver on UnMarvelous
"Guy Ritchie" vs "Viper Legionnaires"
160 Venoc Vipers x4
120 Mogrimm Forgehammer
120 Venoc Warlord
100 Roman Legionnaires x2
Another impressive win...for Mega. My defense rolls failed me once again, and my AE didn't drop early enough (how sweet a turn 1 grenade would have been...). I did a fair share of damage, but he had a full squad of Romans and both warlords in the end.
Game 6 vs jschild's child on Failed Negotiations
"Chainmail Bikini" vs "Iron Bite"
240 Fen Hydra x2
240 Iron Man
010 Isamu
010 Otonashi
This army was the reason I brought the dwarves, and though Iron Man had the most impressive showing, they weren't terrible. He put both his Hydra in the middle, so I engaged each with a single dwarf so he couldn't kill more than 1 without risking a passing swipe. Mogrimm was also able to move up for a (useless) turn 1 Commander's Strike. As I said, Iron Man did almost all the work, though.
Overall, I went 4-2 for second place. It was a lot of fun! Some highlights: taking the only glyphs of the tournament (I think), Defense +1 glyphs in games 1 and 6. Iron Man actually rolling well for once! I usually fail miserably with him and Kaemon Awa (my two faves). Actually hitting something with Commander's Strike. Throwing a Grenade at my own GG (but not wounding anything) and another taking out 2 Vipers and a Roman...but also one of my GGs.
But best of all Iron Man defeating himself in game 6. My Iron Man went up against his Iron Man and came out on top (literally: height advantage will do that for you).
So another thanks to MegaSilver for hosting, and I look forward to the next HS tournament!
[My overall tournament record is now 20-13, for a 60.6% win rate.]

I hope we can play against one another again! Hopefully your dice will be nicer to you. MegaSilver |

rednax: Sorry that we couldn't use your map. Two people didn't show up, so we had to drop a map, and I hadn't played Failed Negotations before. But don't worry; the next tourney I host Fyorlag Swamp will be the first map chosen (or another one if you make a better map in the meantime.)
