CarWarsScape

So I've been thinking off and on about throwing some Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars in Heroscape and thinking of having matches like I did 20 years ago in Car Wars.

I've just been wondering how to do it.

Do I need turning rules or just let them move like normal Heroscape figures? What about large vehicles that take up more than 2 hexes?

How should I do collision damage?

I'm thinking all vehicle weapons will be special attacks. I'm also thinking that they will be on separate cards and can be purchased separately to customize your vehicles.

What about drivers and passengers? Should I allow figures to go inside the vehicles? Should they be allowed to attack while inside the vehicle? Should they be wounded if the vehicle is damaged?

Lots of stuff to think about. Anyone have ideas?

Wow, Car Wars, I haven't heard that game for a long time.

You almost have to use turning radius and speed, to keep the flavor of the game. Use one space forward in line of front arc for every space (10MPH) in movement speed before turning one facing.

I love the optional cost for each weapon and or armor upgrade with the base chasis costing X amount for all the size classes.

I used to play the predecessor to Car Wars called O.G.R.E. If you remember that game then, my name and avatar make sense to you.

Let me know how it turns out.

ooh! I'd love to see an O.G.R.E. in Heroscape.

Thanks for the comment!

You would need to count turns the same way you count for deep snow. One move for entering the hex and another for turning the front of the car clockwise or counterclockwise 1 edge.

Does that make sense?

Bolo, did the game or the Kieth Laumer novel come first?

An OGRE in Heroscape--you wouldn't even have to have a figure for it. Since it fires tactical nuclear shells from several miles away, to play an OGRE just roll about 100 attack dice against every figure on the board and don't allow any figures to roll defense dice.

The Keith Laumer concept was published long before OGRE, which takes its inspiration from the Bolo stories as well as a similar story called Gottlos.

Speaking of OGRE, there are plans for a new edition of the game.

EDIT: To get my comment back on topic, for Car Wars scape, would you use Hot Wheels-type vehicles along with the regular Heroscape figures? Seems the scale discrepancy is too much. Or are you talking about adapting the HS rules to vehicle combat game?

I was thinking Hot Wheels alongside the other Heroscape figures. While there is some size discrepancy, it's not too bad. My car is below my shoulder at about the same height as a Hot Wheels car is below a human Heroscape figure's shoulder.

I've been thinking about combining HS with the new rules for the game Warlands. The HS hexes could simplify the movement.

The figures for Warlands are 20mm scale, however, and that makes it so most Hot Wheels' cars fit nicely on two hexes.

Things like rates of speed, compulsory movement, how many turns you can make per turn, etc come into play. I think it is possible, but first I have to absorb how to play the expanded version Warlands which was just released.

In Car Wars, drivers and passengers could fire hand weapons or throw grenades from the window.

I would love to see a squad MONDOS! I can see a C3G Trcuck Stop, or Amatuer Night Arena.

You've got me thinking now...
