CLASSIC HEROSCAPE .STL FILES
3D MODELS INDEX

Notes:
0) For higher resolution, laser-scanned files, be sure to check out Scapedood's thread:

Scapedood's laser scanned models (https://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=57184)

1) Look for (matte) next to a figure name. Those are the best resolution models. We won't get better than that without a better 3D scanner.

2) Some of the earlier matte models have some surface defects. Part-way through I learned how to easily clean up those defects. Let me know if there is a model you want me to clean.

3) I will print any of these figures at a nominal fee (mostly covering cost of filament and wear on my printer). PM me for a quote.

4) I will slowly populate this with all the classic figures, C3V, and SoV figures.

5) Let me know if any of the links have issues or point to the wrong .stl file.

6) I'll soon be deleting the less detailed duplicate models.

7) Note: All figures are in inches. To convert to mm, multiply by 25.4. To scale in CURA, use 2540%

I just finished printing the 8 models he needed to add to my existing ones to make his army. Now to paint them. I will anxiously await any additional models you throw on here. These will be so much fun to print and paint up as I please for heroscape and any other dungeon crawl. I've been running my printer nonstop. I've went through about 5 lbs of filament. I still have another 5 lbs waiting to be made into glorious miniatures and terrain.:) There are a handful of common figures I just never had a chance to buy more than 3 sets of and so I'm completely digging this. I'm surprised more people haven't weighed in here. Some of them are low poly models but they still have potential to look great with a little paint. I'm going to be making me a couple more swog riders for sure. I think I have 2 of them, and 1 of the unique hero. I don't have the official ornak, sir gilbert, acolarth. I only have a hatamoto taro, and a cloned laglor. These are seriously great though.

I am not super familiar with the 3D printing process. For a custom print - could you increase the size? Like say I wanted a Minion of Utgar to be about 50% larger, is that easy to do?

Scaling the whole figure with base is 10 seconds easy. If you want the figure larger but the base a standard size it might take me 5 minutes to scale the figure and import a larger standard base. But both are simple.

When I get home tonight I'll respond to your PM.

Ive actually printed out quite a few of these figures so far WK. I printed out 8 fire elementals for my brother for the last tournament we went to to run a kurrock firestorm. He did pretty well. I printed 3 flag bearers that I didnt have and a zetacron that will probably end up on a game prize table. I printed a couple of wo sa gas a while back. I'm now printing up a set of blade gruts but a bit bigger to be orc warlords. Not sure how I'm going to paint them up yet. Its gonna be awesome. I look forward to what else you come up with here. I may have to do some big minions as well. Giant demons, cant get enough giant demons.

Some files are a lot cleaner than others. Its very easy to scale them up and down in my slicer before printing. I printed out a group of blade gruts that are truly brute gruts. On all these files I have to scale them up 2540% to make them normal size. I scaled the 4 orcs up to 3500%. The base overlaps a normal hex space a little bit, but they turned out fantastic. Im going to paint them up as orc warchiefs or something. The details on the blade gruts is pretty decent. I also printed out an ornak, acolarth, and sir gilbert normal size. White Knight is there any way I can help you with this project. Its really great and would love to try to clean up some of the details on some of the lower poly models. Ive been getting wrecked by my UC lately but plan on posting up some of the cool stuff from this thread that Ive printed.

Just out of curiosity...how much do you think it costed to print out the elementals. I've thought about using the elementals as figures for a custom I'm debating but they are cost prohibitive...Just trying to get an idea. Have you printed off any of the Vipers...the elite and Amoroc specifically. Basically I'm asking whats the material cost here a person would be looking at. I don't have a 3D printer...yet...but I am intrigued.

I guess my question was more general than I made it...I'm just curious how much a regular medium sized figure would cost to print? Also can you do hallow things as well...like the RttFF trees for instance?

The cost of the figures depends on how much time it took for the mini and how much filament the mini uses. There are a bunch of factors to this. First is the quality of the machine. Machines that run a higher quality may be more expensive.(there are some exceptions). Then there is the speed. Generally faster means less detail. The slower it goes the longer the machine runs using more power but equally wears on the machine as if you were to run it faster. There is the knowlege factor built in where you have to dial in your machine to make it work best for you with maintenance and the correct settings. Lastly there is filament. The filament comes in different qualities by price. The cheaper stuff gets you some really cheap things but may ruin your nozzles faster. I definitely recommend buying a 3d printer if your half the plasticrack addict I am. My wife bought me 2 rolls of filament for my birthday to make whatever I like. When buying figurines from other places figuring in what shipping costs is something you want to do as well. It has went up since I last shipped anything out. My machine made each fire elemental in about 30min including the base. It made the giant orcs about an hour and 20 to an hour and 30 depending on the sculpt. Generally on my printer it takes about 45 min for a standard 28mm figurine to print on my custom settings that are faster than the stock settings.

I used clear PETG for my fire elemental and did a red, orange, and yellow wash. I'm happy with how they turned out.

The clear PETG is $28 for 1kg, which is about 100 meters (I haven't done the density calculation). A medium Heroscape figure uses about .5m to 1m of filament. That's about $.14 to $.28 a figure, about a quarter a figure.

Machine time is 20 minutes to 4+ hours depending on the desired resolution and complexity. I use fairly fast settings for mine, since I haven't seen much difference with slower settings. So I'm on the lower end of time. But TREX's printer has better resolution so it probably takes longer.

There is also some time involved in cleaning off support structures after the print.

But the basic material cost is low.

I would probably make terrain, too. I doubt Iím ever gonna play an official game, just casual stuff. Iíve been expanding my collection little by little but it adds up. If I could make passable minis with a $200 machine it would cut costs considerably, at least by half to get everything Iím looking for. Plus I could make tiles like you said. Definitely would be so much easier than tracking down expensive sets for some lava or snow tiles.

This is all good news though, sounds like that printer will definitely work for what I need. From what I read careful building and calibration are key so Iím sure itís just a matter of practice. Good stuf!

Im not a pro at the ender 3, but will try to help. I personally advise that you join a desktop miniatures printing facebook group. Questions get answered all the time on there and can give you specific answers and settings to your exact machine by peeps that have that machine.

@White Knight (https://www.heroscapers.com/community/member.php?u=9472) is there any way I can help you with this project. Its really great and would love to try to clean up some of the details on some of the lower poly models. Ive been getting wrecked by my UC lately but plan on posting up some of the cool stuff from this thread that Ive printed.
I have files for the D2 and D3 models that I haven't posted yet. D2 is probably half-way done, but the rest are raw scans that include the backgrounds and often have little holes or attached material and need to be edited. I use Blender to modify them and give them bases.

I also have some higher resolution raw scans of some of the other classic figures. For Hexscape, we scanned the figures, reduced the resolution of the models to make them faster to load, and then fixed up the holes and issues. For the scans I made, I still have the original higher resolution scans. But they still have and holes and issues and need to be fixed. I don't have the original scans for those done by Kinseth and others, and they are no longer available by Autodesk. :(

Also, since they are 123D Catch/Remake scans, even the higher resolution files are still fairly low resolution. They work for me, but I know a lot of people would not be satisfied with them. Maybe someday someone with a laser scanner will come along with better files...

If you want to help edit them, I can give you the links of the scan files.

@TREX (https://www.heroscapers.com/community/member.php?u=9140) ,

Most of the raw scan files are here:

Hexscape raw scans (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1pcS5_foAOcQnZTcE9kbUJ3c28)
Hexscape raw scans 2 (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1pcS5_foAOcNXFrbVdoUHlTeG8)

Note that "Base Single Heroscape.obj" is a clean single base file and "Base Double Small.obj" is a clean small peanut base. I scale the figures to the match the clean base, cut off the scanned base, and merge the figure with the clean base to make a completed figure. I have the large peanut base as well if needed.

Also note that D2, D3, and C3V files have unique base sizes. I measured all the bases, so I can tell you what size they are supposed to be.

Let me know which ones you decide to work on so that I don't duplicate the effort.

Sounds good. The Zombie Hulk looks like a pretty clean scan. Are you putting it on the peanut base?

For scale, I measured and the Zombie Hulk's original base (in the scan) is 1.9" (4.8 cm). I usually use the grid in Blender to scale the figure's scanned base to the correct size before cutting off the base. The .obj Heroscape single and peanut bases are in inches.

I'm almost finished with the D2 .stl files. And I'll be working on the D3 files next, since I need them for Hexscape, so I'll reserve those.

yes. He is on a small peanut from the file you provided. He looks to be scaled correctly to it but I have to fix a couple of tiny bits by the bottoms of his feet where I cut him from his original base. Thats awesome about the D2 files.:) I should be able to get with my brother and get him on board as well too.

Thanks for this info. It's exactly what I was looking for. Just a general idea. Thanks to TREX, my son now REALLY thinks we should get a printer. $28 for at least 100 figures doesn't seem like a big loss in learning curve start-up. $0.25 and a couple hours is all I'm losing in a failed test I guess. My worry was actually how much money would I waste trying to get good at this. I don't think I'd be creating my own models anytime soon so I'd be using models I could find around.

And it looks like if I get the same model as someone else I should just be able to use their settings right?

And it looks like if I get the same model as someone else I should just be able to use their settings right?
The settings are 3D printer and material specific, not model specific. The settings on my printer (Vellemon K8200) are probably very different from those on TREX's printer. And the settings I use for PLA are different from those I use for ABS or PETG.

There will be some learning curve, but less if you use an out-of-the-box type printer. My printer was a kit, and it's taken a lot of tweaking and learning to get it to print well. But the newer printers need less adjustments. TREX got his and was up and printing almost right away (and hasn't stopped since!).

All this to say, if you get a printer with good reviews I don't think the learning curve will be difficult.

I agree with WK. It depends on the model and material. I just switched to a different brand of filament yesterday and brought my heat up 15 degreea Celsius per the recommendation on the filament box. I generally will test new settings on a miniature or something small instead of something big. After dialing in on an orc mini I printed a 9 hr. Rancor that came off the bed this morning. I printed it in one piece at 100mm tall. There are plenty of groups on facebook for each type of machine or tabletop printing that can help tremendously. You will love it japes.

There are single hex ice water swamp shadow along with all the glaciers/rocks. It really just depends what color of filament you print in or what you paint it like. I used thingiverse for the glaciers and base tiles. Digitallimit is the author. Make an account and get your library ready for printing before you get your printer.

Blender can certainly do what you want--at least all the tools are there. I made some 3D Pokemon figures for my son, and they 3D printed pretty well. But I'm not up to doing complex figures like Heroscape models. Blender is free, and is widely used in the 3D community, so there are many tutorials and answered questions online. I use probably less than 1% of its features.

Sketchup, Maya, and Meshmixer are other options, but I'm not familiar with them. I think Sketchup and Meshmixer are free, but I'm not sure about Maya.

I know it’s different for every printer and different materials, but in general what are your settings when printing figures for HS? Nothing too specific but do you have better success with slower or faster print speed, smaller or larger layer size, hotter or cooler temperatures. Things like that. I tried to print a figure as my test print, but none of them were very stable. I think I’m gonna step back and try stuff like a calibration cube, benchy, a temp tower. Try to figure out how to use it. But I’m curious what works for people here.

I could tell you my settings for my machine with the pla material im currently using but it wont really dial in your machine. If you use facebook. Find a group that uses a printer like yours for tabletop 3d printing and those folks can help you dial it in quick. Calibration does help out on any printer but my recommendation above will help you out greatly. There are loads of things that help with the quality of miniatures.

I joined 2 FB groups and am checking reddit, so I was able to get a few profiles to try and a bunch of settings to play with. Iím trying to zero in on what Iím gonna try from a big picture point of view, then go back and play with settings. I started off in the reverse order. So Iím not really looking for specific settings like reduction height or extrusion %, more how people approach printing minis in general. Like for example, how important is speed for your printing? Do you do tiny layers or try to bang it out quick? Does infill % matter to you? Stuff like that, 1000 ft view preferences.
I know itís tough to make suggestions considering all the variables, but there are no groups specifically for printing Heroscape minis with an Ender 3. The Ender 3 group and 3d mini printing group are good, but my figures keep breaking at the feet and ankles. Was hoping if I could take the knowledge from those other groups and try to combine it with knowledge from a HS group I could improve.

If you want more durable minis, infill will matter. If they are at a higher % they will have more strength, but will take longer to make and use more material. The more infill will help with quality as well because the layers will have more to build on top of. Speed can effect quality as well. I run mine 3x faster with custom settings than the standard stock setting for all bigger stuff I make because it cuts down print time tremendously. When doing really small miniatures slowing it down can help. How I got where I am is I used settings that were great then slowly sped different parts up to cut 1/3 off my time. Above that on my machine made a difference in quality.

My friend got an Ender 3. The shallow hex had a rough top, which is the base when printing. Is there a way to smooth that out?

I know itís different for every printer and different materials, but in general what are your settings when printing figures for HS? Nothing too specific but do you have better success with slower or faster print speed, smaller or larger layer size, hotter or cooler temperatures. Things like that. I tried to print a figure as my test print, but none of them were very stable. I think Iím gonna step back and try stuff like a calibration cube, benchy, a temp tower. Try to figure out how to use it. But Iím curious what works for people here.
TREX is right, but I'll tell you some things that worked for me.

- For filament, I like to use white PLA+ filament from eSun. It prints really well for me, sticks to the bed, and has good detail. It's harder to finish than ABS because you can't use acetone, but I clean things up with a solder tool.

- I keep the fan on full speed 100% all the time. This cools the filament as soon as it is laid down and makes it stay in place.

- I keep the nozzle temperatures low--usually 180-190C for the PLA+. That tends to prevent oozing, and it brings out more detail.

- For high detail, I set the diameter of the filament to 2.85mm (instead of the default of 3mm) and set the extrusion multiplier to 1.

- I have an E3D v6 hot end with a .4mm nozzle. To prevent oozing, I set retract 2mm to 4mm and Wipe While Retracting.

- I keep my print speed about 50mm when I want more detail.

- I get better quality at .1 to .15mm layer height, but it's very slow and sometimes doesn't print well in places. Usually I use .3mm layer height and it's good enough for most of my prints.

- When printing a figure, especially one holding up a sword or staff, I print 2 figures at the same time. This give the filament at the top time to cool as the nozzle moves to the 2nd figure. If I don't do that, thin objects such as swords will often print out deformed because the nozzle temperature melts the layers underneath.

- I rarely use slicer-generated supports. Instead, I make my own supports--usually .05mm cylinders from the base to an arm, or a shield, or a gun. They are easier to cut off later. I only use them on overhangs less than about 25 degrees. If I have a long horizontal section (like a zombie arm) I'll put more than 1 support, separated about .25 inches apart. Closer together is not needed. Farther apart will lead to sagging strings in the first bridge layer.

The Ender 3 group and 3d mini printing group are good, but my figures keep breaking at the feet and ankles.
If they are breaking at the feet and ankles under regular handling, you don't have good adhesion between layers. Some things to try:
1) Increase the nozzle temperature a little, maybe 5 or 10 degrees C. Hotter filament sticks better to itself.

2) Increase the extrusion multiplier for the filament. It will add a little more filament as it's printing. You'll lose a little resolution on your figures, but the legs will be stronger.

It could be infill %, but legs are pretty small, without much infill, so more infill won't help much. But you can make it 100% and see if it helps.

That’s all very helpful, thank you. I was using siepie’s profile from reddit, and it seems crazy slow and doesn’t seem to work for 28mm minis, I think some parts are too small. Good to see you’re getting decent results with a faster print time and larger layers.

I think temperature might be my key issue here, based on what you wrote and what I read elsewhere. I’m gonna try increasing the heat and printing more than one figure, let’s see how that goes. Thanks

White knight or anyone else,

I had the obsidian guards for heroscape but I never was able to get the granite guardians. I have printed out the one granite guardian and it looked amazing, but I would really like to be able to print and paint up a whole squad of the granite guardians. Can you guys try to get the other two models scanned as soon as you can?

Thank you,

Tried twice today. Filament snapped during the first one and clogged the tube, that was a pain to fix. Tweaked the settings and finally got a decent print, although the ankles still snapped. Iím getting glue and just dealing with it. So this is Eldgrim and Wolverine (but I snapped his claws cleaning supports).

@White Knight (https://www.heroscapers.com/community/member.php?u=9472) , My bro cleaned up the Zelrig model and finished it up. He said that he re sculpted the wings a bit but said it is looking pretty good. I'll have to get him to try and log in to his old scapers login and post it in here. Unfortunately Ive been swamped so I haven't been able to finish the couple of little tweaks on that zombie hulk to finish him up.
shaolin, Sometimes I'll print my models at a 45 degree angle or on there back if they have little bits sticking up such as the claws on the wolverine. That way those parts print support free.

If the filament is snapping, it sounds like it's absorbed some water and is brittle. What filament are you using? Has it been sitting out for a while?

You can back in the oven at about 160F for about 6 hours to dry it out. That should prevent it from snapping and also make better prints.

Since ankles are small, a lot of times I'll come back and use my solder tip to fuse (smear) the layers a little better. Basically, I run the tips up and down the leg/ankle just a little to smooth out the legs and increase their strength.

You can also go a little higher on the nozzle temperature to try to improve the adhesion even more.

TREX thanks for the tip, I didnít realize you could rotate for the print, just assumed it was vertical. Iíll keep that in mind.

White Knight I had my heat up a little more than usual, but it was stringing so I had it retracting. I think the retraction was too much and the back and forth cut the filament. So I put the heat back to 200 and turned retraction off. It finished, but hereís the result. I saw a setting where the printer stops extruding before it travels and uses the oozing overextrusion that would normally be the string. I want to try turning that on, turn the temp back up to 205 or 210, and see if that helps with the stringing. Retraction broke the filament and turning down the extrusion left tiny gaps, so that setting is my next attempt. Weíll see. Thanks for the tips!

Sorry, I have another question. What do you guys put for height? The snap scale is nice where I just set the z axis and it scales the rest in proportion. I’ve been doing 28mm for medium characters. What would you do for a large? And bigger sizes. Increase by 5mm for each size increase or something like that?

All the finished files are set where you can scale them by 25.4 in inches or in mm which is how my slicer is in which I multiply them by 2540% . It makes them the exact size. Theres no guessing.
For the other comment about bases. They are in this thread or in one of the other 3d printing threads on here. White knight uses the solid ones for model files but there are some cooler more hollow ones that print upside down well also.

I just got one myself and love it. Iíve done more printing and painting than actually playing the game since I got it. Do it!

Side note thatís probably more for the C3G forums, but I found a potential good way to print custom superheroes. There are tons of 3d models out there, usually for video game making. Deviant art has a bunch. You can download them as obj files, import into blender, add bones, and pose the model. The tricky part is getting the ďweightĒ right so the correct parts move when you move the bones, but it doesnít seem like it will take more than a few practice attempts. Once you have the pose you can export as an stl. Iíll try to get a good first print and post results over in that forum, but this could be an easy way to print variations of Heroscape units too. So if thereís only 1 stl file for a common squad, bring the unit into blender and re-pose it.

They look pretty fantastic. Are you planning on doing both models or just the one?
Both models are finished. The one posted in the OP is actually the other model. I'll upload this model soon.

As as an aside, I just found the most awesome free character generator:

desktophero3d.com
:woot:

Ive made about 15 different models on there WK. Very cool. Ive printed out a couple of elephant warrior men that are as big as ogres, a lion man archer, and a handful of random characters my nieces and nephews wanted including a dragon born guy with big wings. My brother is going to show me some new stuff in blender to help clean up scape models.

Depends how picky you are with it but now that Ive made a few I can do one in as little as 5 minutes. It helps if you know what you want before you start.

And I uploaded the other Mezzodemon sculpt, two of the Capuan Gladiator sculpts, and a proxie squad for zombies.

I have a lower resolution file of the hydra. I'll post it soon. I'm seeing if one of the other guys has the higher resolution.

So like I said I was messing around with Blender. I got a 3D model of Colossus from the internet that I could download as an obj file and imported that into blender. Then I rigged and posed the model, and exported it as an stl file. It's not the easiest, the weight painting is tricky, but here's what I got so far.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1u4C_eO26hd2clP4zjv-XgwhyBKPhJqTe

I tried to pose it as close as I could to the pose on the C3G card, but you can see by his upper left shoulder and left side of his back it's a bit funky looking. My goal is to keep working on some superhero types because of the amount of free 3D models out there and get better. It's not the quickest process so I doubt I'll grow a big library very quickly, but if I get a few I'll start a new post in the correct area. Didn't want to make a brand new thread for just 1 stl file that could use a little polishing. Still, it's a step in the right direction. I'll print this out tomorrow and we'll see how it looks, gonna try making it 32mm high.

Edit- I tweaked it, looks a little better.

I understand what you're saying about the shoulder, but I'm not much good at rotating limbs and sculpting either.

Thank you :)
Yeah I mean it’s not unsightly, and probably less noticeable on a mini figure compared to zooming in on the laptop. I probably should’ve put the shoulder joint closer to his neck, he has a lot of chest. All that considered it’s not bad for a first attempt, and (hopefully) I can only get better from here.

Welcome to the site, Mikablu!

You should check out the tournament they're having in Maryland near Baltimore at the end of this month! I've been before when I lived out east, they're always a blast. Dad_Scaper and the others will make you feel very welcome.

Yup! We'll actually be in Hagerstown (https://www.heroscapers.com/community/showthread.php?t=55201), on 11/3. Our friend Gurei-Ornery has his own game shop, and will be hosting a "tournament." Which I put in quotes because it's extremely casual, and just an opportunity to play some 'Scape. I hope you can make it.

Sir Gilbert the Human Flag Bearer
Ornak the Orc Flag Bearer
2 Fen Hydras
Almost made 4 mezzodemons but had a power bump during a storm.
This is great.
I'm printing faster than I can paint, so it's time to slow down a little!

I still have a few more models to add to the list. I'll try to get those added soon.

For the most part I have held off on printing any new minis on account that I have hundreds upon hundreds of minis needing paint. Ive turned my attention to painting those. Right now Im printing some cool sci fi stuff for terrain.

I still have some higher resolution scans to add, and some additional squad figures to add.

Let me know if anything is missing or incorrect.

This printer is well on the way to paying for itself. I’m getting better at painting, but still need to perfect the wash. I went a little too dark on some of the white parts. These are my finished figures, still have more that need painting. But just this little group has to be over $50 on eBay if not $75. I’ll deal with some darker minis.

Thank you 😊. And thank you so much for putting all of this together!

They do look really nice. For a wash I use two different things that work really great and match heroscape figures pretty well. First is army painters quickshade medium tone. A cheaper version thats a little more dirty looking would be minwax polyshades walnut color. The second one actually looks a lot closer to original scape figures. Its easy and you can use it for quite a ways on minis. I also use it for terrain I build. It seals in the paint job as well. I usually put a matte varnish on afterwards because it has a glossy sheen.

Does anyone have any high res scans of marro drones? I only have 6 because I was a child when heroscape came out and didn't get to choose the packs I got. Thanks ahead of time. I tried to use some instant mold to make a mold of the whole body of one of the poses, but unless I cut up a marro drone, which I'm very unwilling to do, I probably won't be able to get a good mold.

The Obsidian Guards are the same sculpts as the Granite Guardians. Look at the first post in this thread for the 3 Granite Guardian files.

I have more scans to add, but I'll add them slowly as I have time. If anyone requests specific scans I will make those scans highest priority.

Now that I have an Ender 3 printer, I wanted see if I can get higher resolution scans with 3DF Zephyr. I took 40 high resolution pictures of a Varkaanan Blade Dancer with my Canon Rebel T3 camera. Then I input the pictures into 3DF Zephyr and used the Ultra setting (must be enabled in Options).

The resulting 3D model is much higher resolution than the other scans we made. It's still not perfect (notice the sword), but that's an easy fix. Changing the background might work, but I'll probably just fix it in Blender.

It took several hours of computing time make the models, but I can run those overnight. As I have time I'll try to make higher resolution models of all the figures I have.

I'm printing a pretty fun file for the Nazgul Ring wraiths from LOTR. I already have a Witch King of Agmar and Sauron. So I'm printing 4 of each of the two sculpts of wraiths to get the other 8. I already printed 3 of them, now just going to print the other 5.

Look for the siepie profile, it’s a good starting point. I tweaked there as I learned how to print. 1 tip, don’t use the cura default supports, they’re a pain. Use the tree supports (in the “experimental” settings menu) or make your own. I’ve had awesome prints that broke as I pulled the default supports off.
I’ve also added a few upgrades and use soft PLA so the minis bend but don’t break, but I would play around with the stock printer for a few weeks at least before you start thinking about what could be improved.

I'm loving my Ender 3!

I'll soon be sharing my higher resolution files of the Granite Guardians and the Quasatch Hunters and my improved version of Sir Gilbert with a stronger flagpole. I'll also be sharing my versions of all these figures with added supports (so they should print directly from the file with no extra supports needed). My supports were especially helpful on the Vipers.

Oh, and the bases are hollow with a grid pattern inside, so they can be printed at 100% infill (stronger for the figures, and uses less material on the base).

Awesome! Do you have a lot of issues removing supports?
That's the one thing that I've had problems with printing figures.
I've used the stock Ender 3 supports for larger figures and it's worked pretty well. But I wouldn't trust them on something as fragile as a Venoc Viper. Mostly I use Blender to add custom tree supports:

https://scontent-dfw5-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/52441806_10157188593376757_50261034442686464_n.jpg?_nc_cat=100&_nc_ht=scontent-dfw5-1.xx&oh=b46b45aa3f0b1c3a424bfb015feb2608&oe=5CFAA8C2

It takes a little trial and error (some failed prints) to get the supports right, but once they are dialed in it makes removing them pretty easy. First I cut (melt through) them with a hot tool. Then I remove the supports with dykes and then clean everything up with the hot tool.

(If I don't cut through with a hot tool first, the dykes will try to force the two halves of the supports apart as they cut which stressed the rest of the part and can break legs or other features.)

3DF Zephyr is awesome! I take 40 pictures of the figure as I spin it around, using a deep focal length and a high resolution. In 3DF Zephyr, there is a difficult to find option to use ultra processing on the images. It takes about 12 hours to make a 3d model from photographs, but as you can see with the dzu-teh the detail is worth it!

I'll slowly be scanning more figures (of the ones I have) and posting the models.

You are amazing WK. I'm starting my first batch of Quasatches now. I'm going to use my speed setting at a 70% infill. I have a fairly decent wall setting so it should keep the strength ok. I just might have to fill the small holes left at the pre formed supports with a little of the filament used from the support with the hot tool. I'm super excited for these though. Which figures do you not have? Maybe my brother and I can try to do those ones.

So 25% in on this one I lost the little peg holding the one guys hand up thats holding the club above his head. I have absolutely no supports of my own on this and am printing it as is at 70% infill. Generally I don't have a problem with pieces as big as the bases losing hold on the bed at 53 celsius on the heated bed but I will go ahead and recommend to others that you will want to make these guys with possibly a brim to hold that little piece on. The one yeti isn't going to have an arm, but the rest is coming together beautifully. For this first guy without the arm, I'm going to just use another figure and mold him an arm out of green stuff. I'm really digging these so far though WK.

Sorry about that TREX. :(

If you can wait until Monday I can beef up the support for you (and save them as separate figures). Should only take 5 minutes once I get to my computer.

No worries, your work is excellent. I'm a pretty capable crafting machine of a man so the one missing arm isn't a problem. Adding a brim would have held the smaller part in place for sure. I wanted to just go for it how it was and to be honest, they look pretty good. They are almost finished right now and the detail is awesome. These are by far my favorite sculpts yet. The Granite guardians are looking pretty dang good as well. I actually do know how to separate the models and could probably swing that for you tonight. I'm just catching up on painting miniatures at the moment. Gotta keep the balance in check.:)

I have all the Master sets and terrain expansions. I have vipers, gruts, omicron, and heroes from wave 1, wave 2 Krug, Khosumet, and Denrick, wave 5 except the samurai, all wave 8, wave 9 heroes, omicron, and dwarves, the big sets except Aquilla's, all D1 and D2, and D3 just the heroes. And some C3V.

Since it takes so long, I'll put any requests top of the queue.

I have all officials except the Flagbearers in which I have a couple. As far as C3V goes, I have At least 50%-70%. I used to pick them all up, but there are quite a few very hard to get ones and/or expensive ones out there nowadays. On top of my not getting as much scape in as I once did, I don't always jump at getting the new figures so much. This is also because I have so many other minis I could proxy them with that collect dust. In all reality, I shouldn't be printing more miniatures right now. I just printed the 3 of those yeti, and only painted two pirate heroes for Rum and Bones 2nd tide at the same instant. My brother did say he had an improved zelrig that I shall try to get from him to get it posted. He did a bit of work on it in blender to make it more detailed.

EDIT: I tried adding a brim to the whole set of three quasatch to allow some extra adhesion support for the little middle piece, Looks like another squatch without an arm.:) It might be a good idea to attach it too the base much to the same extent that you did the speeder bike. I'll just need to use the greenstuff mold to do two forearms for that particular model.

After adding my official basic slicer supports on top of what is on the model already along with a brim, I'm happy to report that my 3rd set of Quasatches has turned out beautiful with no problems or breakages. I think I just needed to find the support system that worked for my specific machine like you said WK. The additional supports also came off incredibly easy so it was a win for me. 3 extra squads of yetis. Now to model the 3 of them with some prosthetic arms.:) I'm now printing off a squad of Granite Guardians. I'll let you guys know how they turn out.

Also, went back and read about your settings:
"Oh, and the bases are hollow with a grid pattern inside, so they can be printed at 100% infill (stronger for the figures, and uses less material on the base)."
Assuming you're using Cura, how are you setting the infill for the base different than the rest of the figure?

Most 3D models are solid (they are basically just an outer skin with empty space inside). Cura interprets these as solid structures and at 100% infill makes them completely solid.

My bases have internal "cutouts", squares for the single bases and triangles for the peanut bases. Cura interprets these "cutouts" as voids in the model and does not add filament there--sort of like a hole or a window inside the part. So you can print at 100% infill and Cura will still add the "cutouts", making a semi-hollow base.

I can send pictures if this isn't clear.

I'll try the superglue, but I'll probably come back with the needle point of my hot tool and stab through the base into each foot to hot weld them together as well.

Anybody have .stl files for the four classic bases? And recommendations for the color of filament to look for to most-closely match the classic brown?

- small 1-hex
- large 1-hex
- narrow 2-hex
- wide 2-hex

I have used up all my resin-cast bases that yodajunkie used to make. I just got my first 3D printer, and figure this is a good solution to my need.

There are .obj files for two bases in there (1 single, 1 double). Not sure what to do with a .obj file, though. I was hoping someone had finished files all cleaned up and ready to go.

Well, curses! I just finished printing and painting Master WCW from the old file (wasn't very good). (I hate painting figs!) And now I need to decide if that's good enough or if I need to do it again.

Sorry it took so long. If there are other models you want higher resolution, let me know and I'll see if there is anything I can do to improve them. But let me know BEFORE you paint! :)

Thanks. Of all the original Hasbro/WotC units, the only ones I was never able to get were MWCW, Armoc Vipers, and Heavy Gruts. When I get up the gumption to paint again, I was going to try the Vipers next. Are the current stl versions very good for those?

The new Master Woo should be higher resolution. And there is only a model for one of the Heavy Grut figures, but that one should be halfway decent.

On the other hand, there are models of all 3 Armoc Vipers, but those models are low resolution.

I don't have the Armocs or Heavy Gruts or I would scan them for you.
Maybe someone with those figures can take pictures of them and I can convert them to .stl files.

All three dragons have removable wings. Would it be best to scan/print the wings and bodies separately? Can the scanning software see down holes (as for Braxas' wings)?

I've been having some trouble with these larger scans which is why it's taking so long, but I'm working on it (adjusting the background, the light level, etc...).

Almost done with Braxas's wings. The attachments to the body need a little more tweeking, but they are almost there.

Hey WK, my brother just purchased a 3D printer and attempted to print some of these files. Heís using a program called Sli3r to interface with the printer. The program uses .gcode files, and it says it should be able to convert the .stl files, but when converted to .gcode it doesnít seem to be able to properly read the file. Do you know anything about this?

After importing the .stl file into slic3r, try scaling the models by 25.4 (or 2540). All the files are in inches, but slic3r reads them in as mm. So a 1 inch tall figure will print 1mm tall (tiny) unless you scale it.

He might need to zoom in a LOT to actually see it to scale it.

If that doesn't work, let me know which file he's trying to import.

Scud-O

In most programs, a simple CNTRL+A/CMD+A (Win or Mac) will select the model even if it's tiny. Then use the scale control as WK said.

I'm still trying to get the 3D scanner from work to read things as small as minis. It's killer for large things (humans from the shoulders up, 2' x 2' objects) but it just can't seem to see really small things.

The hydras look great WK. I printed a few at the lower resolution and painted them. They turned out ok but not fantastic. These higher res ones look a good bit more detailed especially in the faces. Ill have to give these ones another go cause I love hydras. I have 3 legitimate ones but it would be fun to have extras for myself and to give away at tournaments. As far as settings go. I use some modified settings that are part of my snapmaker software so Im not sure they would help other printers.

Third, now I want to go back to rescan every figure I have.:grrrr:

I recently added more light to my light booth, but more importantly I bought some removable matte spray. After you spray your figures, they become matte and have far fewer reflections. Then you take your pictures. Finally, you wash off the matte spray. It made a WORLD of difference!!!!!!

Krylon K01310 11-Ounce Dulling Spray

Steps
1) Spray the figures with the dulling spray and let them dry.

2) Set up your photography area.
- put newspaper print or magazine picture or some other non-repeating dull (not shiny) picture paper onto a table surface
- add good lighting all around the table, pointing at the center of the paper
- add 1 to 4 figures to the center of the paper (if they are all very similar, you might want to mix and match squads or turn them all the same direction so the software doesn't get confused)
- if you have a nice camera, you'll want to use a small tripod. Set the aperature to around 25, set the ISO to 200, and set the shutter speed to something that makes the figures nice and bright (but not washed out). I usually use 1/8.
- if you have a cell phone, ignore the settings but make sure you hold it steady and keep all the figures in focus

- take 40 to 50 pictures of the figures all 360 degrees around (front, back, and sides). I keep the same distance and angle from the ground, but that is not necessary.

3) Save the pictures to computer

4) Install 3DF Zephyr Free version
- open 3DF Zephyr
- First thing you want to do in 3DF Zephyr is go to the Tools tab, Options, and about half-way down check "Enable Ultra Preset"
- Go to the Workflow tab and select New Project
- Check both Generation options (Compute 3D model and compute texture). You might not need computer texture, so feel free to leave that off and try it. Textures are for displaying colors for online games.

- Add your pictures.
- Camera orientation:
Category: Close Range
Presets: Exhaustive
- Dense point cloud:
Category: Close Range
Presets: Ultra
- Surface Reconstruction:
Category: Close Range
Presets: Ultra
- Texturing presets (don't change)

- RUN
- it will take up to 12 hours to create a model

- After the analysis finishes, use the edit tools to delete the background around the figures to make the file smaller.- Save the model (File->Save)

- Export the .obj (Export->Export Textured Mesh). Change "upload to Sketchfab" to "export .obj".

The .obj files are what I clean up to make the .stl files.

Feel free to help with all this process or just part (taking pictures, or running 3DF Zephyr). I have a bunch of photos I took that I need to run through 3DF Zephyr. But there are figures I don't have for which I need photos.

Thanks!

I would imagine that the figures would look even better with a more matte finish anyway. Anytime I seal my painted minis the matte coat looks way better and more natural than if you would use gloss or semi gloss.
