TGRF's Writing Updates - January
It's been a bit, and progress has been made in the realm of writing. So as January comes to a close, it's time for another update.
Fan Fiction
I'm going to start with this section this time, because HS is ultimately what brought us all here. There remains to be no plans for future fan fiction. As always, there are a few random ideas floating around in my head which I never got to fully explore - they may some day turn into something, or not. Right now, focus is completely on my novels, with no room for fan fiction.
I should mention that I removed the last two books of the Dilmir series. The plot is significantly close to the plot of my novels, and I don't want future readers tracking Dilmir down and figuring out what comes next before I've written it. Yes, that means those of you who have read Dilmir have a good idea what is coming, but the general public does not. Don't spoil it for them, please.
The Dilmir stories are still intact, along with their threads, and I intend to return them to the forums once the relevant novels are published.
Novels
This time last month, I was still finishing up the worldbuilding. That is long done now, the world being fairly well locked down and developed. Attention this month has been spent almost entirely on the theme and main character arc of the stories, both of which are now solidified. At this point, I want to look at stakes, and then go into the cast as a whole and start developing characters. From there I only need to work on the plot and detail the outline, then I can start writing. I'd say we're looking at two more months before that happens, at the least.
I realize I haven't said much about what you can expect with the novels, and I'm going to stick to that - I have a tendency for saying too much, and don't want to spoil anything. I will only say this: these novels are pulling in aspects from all of my fan fiction. The plot is similar to Dilmir (as I said above). The magic is based off of A Chance for Success. The outlining and plotting techniques used in the later Dilmir stories and Dawn of Darkness will be used. It's looking to all pull together into a highly cohesive unit.
The Future
Last update, I mentioned that I would be starting training as a dental assistant this last month, and I have. There isn't too much strain on my time yet - we'll have to wait until March to see how much the actual job will impact my writing ability. For now, novel progress continues to move forward at a slow but steady rate.
For right now, I will stick with my earlier prediction that the writing of the first novel could be done by the end of the year, if not before. I'll keep you updated.
Until then, keep reading.
