Re: Kaidara's Blade Chapter Twenty-Nine 6/8
This is one of the most epic stories on this site. It has great deapth in both characters and setting, and the story is very unique. I truly like hhow Runa is the villian here rather than the obvious Tailord. ONce again great job!

Re: Kaidara's Blade Chapter Twenty-Nine 6/8
Chapter Thirty is currently being written. I'm trying really hard not to fall into summer laziness and get these up more regularly. You can expect it within the week, hopefully before Saturday.

Re: Kaidara's Blade Chapter Twenty-Nine 6/8
Finally, I have a finished. A short, but action-packed chapter:
PART FOUR: Quest of the Quintessential Quartet, Runa's Ritardando Chapter Thirty: __Utgar's Minions descended like a heavy rain and in poured a tsunami of icar. From the fallen corpses, zombies sprung up like flowers. The perfect harmony and dissonance of warriors from across the galaxy and spanning the vast reaches of time was beautifully chaotic. Though the main battle had been joined for only an hour, it was already devastating both sides. With blood and body parts flying all about, the most frantic of all soldiers were the healers on either side. The kyrie Kelda had exhausted herself in the first half hour. It took elven wizards dedicated to her to keep her wings moving and magic flowing. More than once did she have to use her powers selfishly, for she was concentrating to hard to even defend herself. Sonlen the archmage was having a much easier time, being no stranger to battle. With help from his young dragon, Zirither, he was able to fight and heal at the same time. __Amidst the swarm of icar crashed in a horde of marro drones and nagrubs. Teeth gnashed and spears slashed, but Marcus Decimus Gallus and his Roman soldiers held fast. Utgar’s warriors were gashed by Roman steel and bashed by legionnaire shields, but then Tor-Kul-Na joined the fight. The Hivelord, astride a marro giant, barreled in, crushing mighty Roman warriors as if they were autumn leaves. The marro leader thrust his mighty spear, but Marcus was there. The tremendous polearm made of the toughest metal was shattered under Marcus’ disciplined resolved. At first it bent on his shield, slowly. When the giant charged forward, it disintegrated and sent shrapnel flying in all directions. Tor-Kul-Na grabbed the reigns of his pet with both hands and guided it about, trying to stamp out the Roman warlord’s life. Dedicated to his cause, Marcus took the crushing blow in exchanged for slicing through the giant’s calf muscle, rendering it flailing violently on the ground. A furious hit from this frenzied beast sent its master flying in the opposite direction. Their momentum defeated, the forces from Marr bounced off sturdy shields and fell to a barrage of arrows. __Up in the sky, Kaemon Awa was also fighting a fierce battle. He spun and dived expertly with his newly acquired wings to avoid being cleaved by axes and skewered by swords. Utgar’s kyrie were many in number and formidable in skill. Still, they did not possess the warrior spirit of someone like Kaemon Awa and were defeated easily, though slowly, by his blades. The Einar Imperium, Jandar’s Sentinels, and Ullar’s Aerials on the other hand, had all been trained specifically to fight against Utgar’s Minions. Though they were not as talented as Kaemon, they were able fight just as successfully. __A mass of ashigaru spearmen blanketed the land meeting the oncoming mob of orcs slashing away with crude, but deadly weapons. But, as the orcs came on, their numbers were reduced greatly by volleys of iron pellets launched by the ashigaru riflemen. Inferior bows made by the orcs could not throw an arrow far enough to harm one of these men, for the ranks of spearmen were so thick. Above it all, in an eight-foot-high wooden tower stood Kato Katsuro, tirelessly ordering about the troops and keeping them in sync, slaying many orcs. __All was going well until the vicious orc leader, Kragnak emerged in the middle of the ashigaru riding his mighty earthworm monstrosity. With strength unmatched by any other orc, Kragnak swung about a halberd with each arm while his mount seared soldiers with acid and batted others away with its wicked, spiked tail. __Kato, more than just a tactical genius, drew his sword and leapt from his tower upon the back of the worm. Kragnak stuck his halberds into the ground and drew a serrated scimitar from his back. Possessing a very un-orc-like quality of patience and caution, Kragnak sized up his opponent and waited for the daimyo warrior to make the first move. Both stood, measuring each other, still atop the back of the raging beast. Finally, Kato used the momentum of a swinging tail to launch himself at the orc with speed that could not otherwise be achieved. Kragnak kicked the worm to tell it to turn. The worm spun about. Kragnak fended off Kato’s supersonic slash and the daimyo tumbled to the ground. The orc immediately sheathed his sword and took up the halberds once again, attacking Kato endlessly. Without the direction of their commander, the ashigaru soldiers attacked haphazardly, a large number of them getting killed by Kragnak and his worm in an attempt to help Kato. Kato backtracked to the gaping hole from which this new horror had emerged, forcing Kragnak to stop his attacks so that he could pursue. __When the second shift took the field, things were going very well for Kaidara and his comrades. But then terror overtook the air as Mimring descended from the stratosphere. Since Charos and Nilfheim needed their rest, and Einar’s dragons, Zelrig and Jinata, were both fighting their own battles, Kaidara was fetched. The wizard Gattstyn once again cast a spell of flying upon him, and the resolute samurai set off at once. As Mimring’s claws tore through kyrie flesh, friend and foe alike, Kaidara approached cautiously, waiting for his opening. Mimring, then possessing the keenest senses in all of Valhalla, was not unaware of the levitating swordsman. A stream of golden flame rushed Kaidara. The deadliness of his breath increased tenfold, Mimring devastated troops below without regard to faction. __Kaidara however, was shielded by Kaimera’s own fire-related powers. The dragon’s efforts fueled the sword’s evil powers, which coerced Kaidara into a belligerent rage. He flew about and hacked away at Mimring, in turn only hitting Utgar’s kyrie warriors since his opponent was much too fast and Kaidara’s current style was much too predictable. __By the time Kitsuru had prepared herself to aid her lover, the enraged samurai was out of sight, far too high in the sky to even appear as a speck to her. Desperation drove Kitsuru to Gattstyn. She explained her plan, and the wizard began to chant. Ten off-duty samurai lent their katana to Kitsuru. She found that she had enough concentration to fly about and control the ten swords, and she rocketed into the air, cutting away all foes between her and Kaidara. __Mimring at last turned and faced Kaidara. The dragon hovered in front of the sun, giving the samurai a hard time. Still, the noble warrior fought on by squinting his eyes and observing the dragon’s silhouette. He hadn’t much trouble defending himself, but Kaidara became frustrated at his lack of opportunity to attack. His frustration, aggravated further by Kaimera’s lust for blood, surmounted into recklessness. Kaidara charged the dragon, prepared to accept a killing blow in exchange for the shallowest of cuts into the dragon’s scales. Just before Mimring’s claw tore through his chest, a symphony swords floating freely joined the battle. Six stabbed Mimring in the hand, stopping his attack, while four used their blunt sides to hold Kaidara back. The sudden appearance of his beloved calmed Kaidara, and Kaimera’s demonic energy dispersed throughout the air. The two Japanese warriors worked together in harmony to fend off the powerful dragon. Kaidara’s two swords defended himself and Kitsuru, while Kitsuru’s ten attacked the beast from every angle until he broke rank and fled. Last edited by Billtog : July 14th, 2008 at 04:27 AM. |
