The Mother....err.....Father Load!!

So heres a quick background, I was digging in the attic, looking for some computersoftware. My computer messed up, and we need to reinstal a bunch of programs. Anyway, ever since I started playing board games, by Dad has told me about these boxes of stuff he has. He said they are filled with things he played with when he was my age. To the kids out there....Ya, I know you've heard it before: Blah Blah Blah old stuff Blah Blah Blah. TO the older members out there, you might like this a bit more. See, heres the thing, my dad knew a guy who did the original testing for D&D (god bless it). Through his friend, my dad got access to first edition, 1st release D&D guides. He also had 100s of figures that you have to build and paint.

So, I've been fantasizing about this for years. But most of the time when I asked him where it was, he said it was in box, with my grandma. To make matters worse. He said she proably threw it away. SHe did that to most of his stuff one summer. If you haven't guessed yet, I found it. 2 boxes full of it. 1 box had at least 40 mint condition, never been opened minis. They were $20 when they came out. I can only imagine what they're worth now... I also found a box filled with old rpg stuff. about 20 D&D scenarios, some diety guides and some other stuff. But what really drove me nuts was the one set of books. My dad has the 3 original D&D rulebooks. THe first ones that came out. (they're bad, really bad, not much clarity at all). THey are in mint condition.

But guess what? He's going to sell it all!!! He says I can photo copy the books if I want, but I can't keep the actual stuff.

So, thats the story. Just felt like venting my frustration.

That sounds like quite a find. You should tell him to let you in on the $ since you found the stuff.

In what year did all of this stuff come out?

Most of that stuff came out in the mid 70's. I still have my original Players handbook, Monster Manual, DM Guide, Deities and Demigods (WITH The Cthulu mythos), MM 2.

Original 3? I may be wrong as I hadn't seen it in a while but are you talking about the original set in the white box? I had though there were only two booklets.

But if you are talking about the first three colored books they are worth more if you have the boxes (sigh, mine disintegrated years ago).

Yet, if you are talking about the first three hardbound books I have mine as well. Though mine aren't mint they are signed by a certain someone with the initials GG.

Ok, I didn't bring this back for no reason. I need to sell the minatures. Theres about 35 mint condition, unpainted, unconstructed lead figures. I was wondering, where is the best place to sell them? I know of Ebay, is there a good catagory to put them in? Where have you guys had succes?

Sorry I can't help with the selling thing, but I missed this topic before (Was on vacation, of course )

That's an awesome story, and I definitely don't consider D&D "old stuff," haha. That's really amazing, but it obviously sucks that he's selling it. Well, it sucks to some extent. I'm sure it'll be worth it.

Guess who's back, back again? Chilli's back. Tell Skahen.
