This sounds great and i would like to attend but my son Moonwalker has a wrestling tournament every Saturday in January. Maybe i will have to catch the next event.

Re: Dallas Area "Official" Tournament structure

****. Am I?

Okay. I'll have something posted Friday.

I am thinking old school side by side at about 600 points with a 250/350 split at the end of March/early April (depending on Rev's availability).

Other thoughts before the thread goes up Friday?

Non-bonding type synergies work whether they are "friendly" or "you control."

No real reason behind this one...just thought it would be fun.

Re: Dallas Area "Official" Tournament structure

Is everyone down for the restricted list again this year? I think going back to side by side, but with the restricted list will yield a good result.

Re: Dallas Area "Official" Tournament structure

Since I didn't holler loud enough last time around, the restricted list MINUS non-bonding heroes (i.e. Kaemon Awa) is my first choice.

For everyone's edification (okay, mine), where/what is the current restricted list?

Re: Dallas Area "Official" Tournament structure

I am down with the restricted list. I think looking at the army Gladdragon and Anubianwolf88 put together shows it makes for a much different set of armies than we normally see at this event.

Here's the rules and restricted list from last year:

Event Parameters:
  • Fixed Teams: Same teammate all day; same army all day
  • No marvel figures
  • Points = 600 pts per team, up to 80 pts shared - One player on the team can control up to 80 more points than the other player. (I.E. Player 1 = 340 pts, Player 2 = 260 pts or any combination in between)
  • Team start zones of 28 hexes, not shared. Each player has 14 hexes each.
  • Glyphs only affect units you control.
  • Army card auras and enhancements state directly on the card whether they affect only units you control or friendly units, which would be your teammate's units.
  • Each team will NOT be able to have more than one of any unique army card.
  • Each team's army can only contain ONE unit from the restricted list below. For example, if one player has Raelin neither that player or his team mate can field any other figure on the restricted list in their army.
  • Team members cannot field the same common army card.
  • Maps will be caddy corner set up (rather than side by side).
Restricted Units List:
Spoiler Alert!

We'd change the seating to side by side and I'd like change it to shared start zones as well.

Debate on the restricted list is always welcome. It's an evolving meta game thing, yeah?

I'm trying to think how treating all army cards in your combined team army as "units you control" could be horribly abused. (Raelin?) If we can't think of a reason not to do it, I'd like to try it. Maybe someone will bring a kickass elf wizard army...

Not possible: someone can bring a cute/viable elf wizard army...but it would not be kickass under any circumstances.

I think with the restricted list and teams not being able to field the same common army card, it might be workable. It would pump up some marginal units a good deal.

You will need to really dig in to clarify some stuff. Like bonding: should you be able to take a turn with your partner's bonding hero? Valiant and Disciplined bonus: would both teams have to be all or nothing to enjoy those bonuses? not so bad for powerful 4th but pretty much nerfs marginal SBand. (Glads/Blasts combo would get a decent bump that they don't need.)

It does make all the cheerleaders significantly more powerful, but most of the good ones are on the restricted list so...you would only get one of them across both armies.

Might be interesting.

Re: Dallas Area "Official" Tournament structure

I think, if we did this, keeping it simple would be best. "All units in your team's army count as units you control."

So yeah, you could bond.

Shared start zones I am for sure about. I think it opens things up for a different sort of map than we've seen the past few years and it sets up different dynamic - armies don't have to run to meet in the middle as they are already together. And if we go with "count as units you control", it makes those synergies work from the beginning. But mainly I want to do it from a map making aspect.

How may spots? If army size is 610? 28 again? The smaller the more limited squads will be...
