Roman's Shield Wall Question

I just got my Romans (2 sets) and I have some questions.

First I have to say, "Wow those archers die quick!"

During the shield wall defense, if two are standing next to each other, they both get a +1 on defense. What happens if both are targeted and the first dies? On the rolling for the second, does he still get the added die for that turn?

I guess I'm really asking, is all this happening simultaneously?

The second doesn't get the bonus.

Think of it the same way as Mimring. That is why you roll each one in sequence with the Line of Fire attack. If Raelin is the first figure in the line and she is killed, the others do not get the defensive aura bonus.

The second roman does not get the shield wall bonus if the first one is killed.

Kills are not simultaneous, even from explosion attacks.

You've got to get those archers on high ground, with somebody who has an aura behind them. They were also tailor made to benefit from glyphs. If you don't play with them, you probably won't be drafting Roman Archers very often. (I don't draft them as often as I draft Aubriens, but I do when playing a Roman themed army.)

Not one step backwards!

That's why you definitely need more than one set allowing you to get some chance of using their special attack. Plus why not try pairing them up with Raeling so they get a defense boost and/or give them height advantage.
I've jsut got my second set of romans and need to try them out.
