A game would take way to long.

It would take to much stuff. I think it would be unrealistic.

Yeah as much as giant maps make the kid in me drool and long for weeklong summer games...
I'm married now with a baby. 2 or 3 hours is all the time I have, so it's 1 or 2 MS maps, with a mind towards "tournament style" play. I think with a bigger map (and the bigger armies you'd want to play on it), you'd end up feeling like 3 plus X order markers aren't enough, and then you're on the slippery slope of house rules... Fine for many, but I like to just play by the book. For some giant maps, you could also check out naps420's thread (among others). |

Big maps are fun to play, We have been playing every Monday night for the last two years and have been having tons of fun. There are many things you can do to make game play fast and fun. If you are a rules purist, it is probably best to stick to games with 1 or two master sets. I got a chuckle out of the reference to "slippery slope of house rules". Slippery slope is generally used in discussions involving ethics or morality... I guess I have slid down the slippery slope of house rules... That means I am a very bad man. 'Scape on... |

I guess "opening Pandora's box of house rules" is closer to what I mean, though it is awkward on the tongue. And to be honest, a simple rule about using one rack of order markers per 500 pts (or something along those lines) seems like it would be nice and contained. No slippery slope required. Cheers! |

I've been collecting terrain lately with the intent of expanding my Northern Checkpoint to an insane size. I always wanted to make a map that could be replayed as completely different maps by changing the start zones that would also allow additional players without changin the map (just use more start zones). With Swarm of the Marro, I'm starting to think something with a Volcano/Frozen Mountain/Lake/Forest/Swamp/Desert/Ruins/Castle could be pretty interesting. Once I get VirtualScape back on my computer, I think I'll start working on something like that. Probably couldn't actually build it until I get a house and have a chance to put together my gaming room though.

Check out Skynight's thread, his maps are amazing and titanic.
Personally, I don't have a lot of room to build maps (I'm a college student). I bought a second Master Set recently and rarely get to use it to its full extent. |
