Do you focus more on Squads or Heros?
I know the game is called Heroscape, but I tend to focus more on squads. I pick out squads I want to use, then pick heros (I think of them as Generals) to compliment them. Sometimes my heros never even engage in battle. I also draft many more squads than heros in gameplay.
What do you guys focus on, Squads or Heros. Last night I played with 4th Mass X2, Romans, Kozuke, Marcus, and Drake. I sent the Romans to establish a defensive position. The Kozuke rushed up and acted as (suicidal) shock troops. I then used the 4th Mass with Marcus at the center to fire on units engaged with my romans. Eventually I used Drake to punch through holes left in their line and flank/play cleanup. Marcus didn't roll a single dice all night. |

Hard to say, their about equal when I draft but I suppose I focus more on the heroes. That's not to say I draft more heroes than squads but greater consideration goes into drafting them. I've been saved many times by one of my heroes in the last rounds.

Re: Do you focus more on Squads or Heros?
Quote:
Some facts: You draft high point heros like 150+ Means on 1 turn marker you activate 150 points worth of your army to fight for you. That does make a difference. Lets say you have 3 heros worth 150 point together, you can only activate one at a time, and the single hero worth 150 could kill all 3 without much wounds. However, if you draft squads you also protect your investment better. Someone can get real lucky and roll 6 out of 6 skulls or you roll 0 shields on a hero.. that could be the end of them in one fell swoop even if they have a lot of life. For squads the most you lose each attack is one figure. Squads also allow for positioning, glyph grabbing, engagement tactics where you hold an enemy in one spot. Heros can be healed or hold a glyph a lot longer. There are probably lots of other implications I have not thought of that others know of too. All these factors are put together to make up your strategy. There is no hard and fast rule, it really is a question of what is your plan, and what is your style of play? ::Nathan Hoel:: |

I'm a Hero man, if I had a choice between Ne-Gok-Sa and two squads of Drones, I'd pick Gok-Sa without a second thought.

I focus more on squads - they're a better investment overall and I'm generally a competitive player. But heroes are more fun.

Squads are generally better, especially if you take multiple commons. They almost always work better, because they can either attack multiple figures at once, or concentrate and attack a single strong hero until he goes down. Heroes generally falter because they only get to take out one opponent at a time, which completely fails against squads. Squads also generally survive better than heroes. Every squad essentially has Crixus's 1 life max power (except against AoE attacks), which really extends their survivability.

I find that I am enjoying squads more than heros. You seem to be able to form more complete strategies when using large groups of squadies. The big heros are fun to play with, but you really need to cooridinate the rest of your army with them, or they get isolated and mowed down. Heros that bond with squads are the best!

I like squads or heros that are cheap, bond, have a specific use, special attack or good strong unit like Q9 & Nilf. But I have to say squads are usually a better investment.

The question is moot. You need a balance of Heroes and Squads that work together with synergy to win. So the answer is I focus on being able to coordinate my entire army into a combat strategy that is flexible and has tangible options to meet all challenges.

I usually use more heroes in smaller games. And the heroes I choose are usually Svarris, Kaemon Awa, and Nilfy. The multiple attacks really boost a unit's strength.

Team work. I'm a squad person myself.
