Does Game Board "Stability" Matter?
Hi Fellow Scapers,
I'm doing a class project involving game design. Take a minute to answer the poll if you would please. Regards, Startoker |

Anyone that answers firmly attached is obvoiusly not a HeroScape fan ...
Just because you're offended, it doesn't make you right.

I don't know, Mal. The hexes hold most of the pieces pretty firmly in place. The only things that tend to wander on my maps are trees, and every now and then, an iceberg. Other than that, HS maps are pretty stable. Compared to games like Dungeoneer, where the cards that make up the map can get scattered if someone sneezes, I think HS is pretty stable.

Honestly when it comes right down to it though, if something moves, it only takes a moment to put it back, so stability has no importance in my games. My mind is the Pink Zippo that sits on top of a pack of Camel Wides. |

Actually, when I wrote this poll I wasn't thinking of Heroscape. That's why I posted it under other games. I beleive the HS game board is a pretty stable platform. The game I actually had in mind (Don't get me wrong, I love this game except for it's team play vs. individual play aspect) was Memior 44. However, when we play Memior 44 we employ HS tiles & terrain.

I voted "Somewhat Important" with Seattlers of Catan in mind. I hate when it gets knocked around. Maybe I should have voted very important...

It depends on the game. In the game Zombies the board is horribly unstable, but that is because the game board grows with each turn. As much as I wish that they could connect a little better I do know that would complicate matters. So I'm undecided.
BTW good luck with your project, I'm glad we can be your guinea pigs. |

Zombies!!! came to mind as soon as I read the title of this thread. I love the game but I really wish the tiles interlocked (a la Legions of Steel). I keep waiting for the meta-game EARTHQUAKE that ruins a long game for us. Thicker tiles would be an improvement that is more of a middle ground that could work for Zombies!!!. I am also looking at investing in Twillight Imperium, and I notice that the board is modular as well *sigh*. The variety of play that modular construction offers is a vital factor in replayability, Heroquest, A&A, and others get stale after playing around that same old board every game.......
