Glad to see there's no Wolvie...

Yea that's right, you heard me. I looked at those pictures of Hulk and Doom and such and color me satisfied to not be seeing any yellow spandex or adamantium. Forgive me if there's a more official source on whose in and whose out, but I'm pretty tired of Wolverine overshadowing the other X-Men. I owned the first 8 volumes of Ultimate X-men and who is on EVERY cover? Yep. What about the three movies? Well, okay, we won't talk about those here... my blood pressure rises at the mere thought of those travesties. It would be cool, I'll grant, to see a Hulk/Logan or Spidey/Logan team-up, but I guess it just seems like such a given nowadays that Wolverine will utterly rule the battlefield. Let's list his powers from his theoretical MS card, shall we? Berserker Rage (adds attack or double attack), Healing (like Kelda but self-inflicted), Ultra-High Defense... some would argue Claw-Climbing and probably Decapitation of Soulborgs. I dunno... am I alone here?

M-5, R-1, A-4, D-3 - Special Tortilla Attack: If BWS2K is currently eating tortilla chips, add 2 to his attack roll. Special Caffeine Move: If BWS2K is consuming a caffeinated beverage, add 3 to his movement.

I agree that not seeing Wolverine is a bit of a... oddity. He's one of their huge moneymakers. I know he'll show up soon, though, behind a blister of plastic. However, I must take umbrage with your assertion that the movies were travesties. I saw each movie opening day and enjoyed each one completely and utterly. In fact each successive movie I loved more and more. I don't want to start some kind of argument about the various details or alterations or whether-or-not they should have followed the comics more. Just let it be known that there are real fans of the comics out there (and one on this forum) that think all three movies were absolutely fantastic and who will be more than slightly miffed if they're spat upon by others. I know it's 'chic' or 'cool' to slam them, I know that garners you points in the comic shops, but to me they were worth every second of anticipation and worth all the effort to keep spoiler-free right up to the opening sequences.

Like I said, not trying to start an argument... in fact I've had them all on other sites and am just really tired of it all... I'm just letting you know that your view isn't totally universal.

I thought the first two movies were fantastic, trimming all of the excess baggage of decades worth of continuity down to the core of what makes X-Men a great series. The third movie wasn't nearly as interesting to me, as it was more interested in showing off special effects and spamming unused characters than telling an interesting story. Both the "cure" and Dark Phoenix are great stories to tell, but trying to cram them both into one movie was rediculous. Rather than getting to the insight into the joys and corruptions of power or the difficulty of accepting being different in the face of conformity, we got a story that flailed between trying to seem important, and trying to make big explosions. You know you've failed to properly set up a character when their decision to retain their powers can be changed by flipping a 20 second scene in the ending (alternate endings almost always show a lack of vision).

As for Wolverine himself, I'm a little suprised he's not in the Masterset, but I doubt he'll be too far behind. Really, your complaints on his powers could probably apply to any Comic character:

Lets see:
Beserker Rage - Hulk's Anger = Strength?
Healing - The Hulk has regenerated from his skeleton on more than one occassion
Ultra-High Defense - The Hulk takes tank shells regularly
Claw-Climbing - The Hulk digs his first into walls to climb anything, if he isn't simply leaping to the top of the building in one jump
Decapitation of Soulborgs - While this power will NEVER appear (they're not crossing Heroscape and Marvel Legends Heroscape like that) nearly ever comic character ever created has cut/ripped the head off at least one robot.

Wolverine won't be any different from any other character. They'll simply reduce him down to one defining power (likely Regeneration) and let the stats take care of the rest. Wolverine's hardly the only character in the Marvel Universe like this. If you think he's bad, try the Scarlet Witch or any of the other characters with "Reality Warping" powers.

As has been said many times, many ways, it's impossible to recreate the comic book experience in anything short of a pencil and paper role-playing game played with very imaginitive players and GMs.

Author's Whim

At the end of every turn, roll 2 20 sided dice. If you roll a 35 or higher, you may declare yourself the winner through whatever means you deem necessary. In order to successfully use Author's Whim, you must fully explain the means in which you win.

Sample explanations -
Opponent sufferes a loss of powers due to other characters, nearby terrain, or planetary alignment.
Player developes new ability that overcomes any prior weakness they had. This ability transfers to future uses of the character, but may be removed at any time by Author's Whim.
When all else fails, the use of Alternate Dimensions, Multiple Timelines, or the ability to alter reality are encouraged. Feel free to kill/unkill characters as necessary.

Wow I must have had a bad morning! All I meant to do was point out that I was surprised that Wolverine wasn't in the Marvel set - he's everywhere it seems. The movies weren't necessarily poorly made, but each one had the pseudo-main plot and then the Logan plot which, in the second movie, were often the same. Lol, wow - apologies all around.

Aside from him and the other X's, who else don't I see... Daredevil? I'm not looking forward to a Ben Affleck mini but isn't DD big? Or is he DC?

zombie prime is a puppet of Ne-Gok-Sa
good ole double D is a marvel character but spidey, cap, and hulk are the bigger stars.

while i dont know why wolvie is missing i can see some relation of the choices they have to the releases of upcoming movies, Silver Surfer, doom, hulk, abomination, spidey, and venom.

Although, if movies were the reason for the choices for the legends then where is ghost rider and mesphesto(spelling?)

Daredevil was probably left out because, combat wise he's way too similar to Spiderman. When you're only releasing 5 Heroes, there's just not room for such evenly matched heroes. DD/Kingpin would be a great duo to add later though.

I fully agree with your take on the movies...number 3 just wasn't in the same league...I thoroughly enjoyed 1 and 2.

Author's Whim is pure genius

Don't forget that the Classic Master Set came with expansions in mind. The Izumi Samurai were the only Einar pieces, Syvarris was the only Ullar unit, and Chompy had Orc Warrior enhancement (whatever they were at the time of the Master Set's release). I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Wolvie made clawed his way onto the board w/in a year.
