STFU
EDIT: I edited your title again to not offend anybody who might be mentally handicapped or have a friend or loved one who is. |

Faartknocker, no offense intended, but this may be posted in the wrong section (I'd think the HeroScaper General would get it more visibility), but the question is an interesting one.
One possible solution to the problem of the way to use the castles that I am trying on my current map is to place a couple of glyphs outside of but near the castle. Then the defender has to choose whether to sally forth from the stronghold or to give the glyphs, in effect, to the enemy. I agree that the destruction of the door isn't the climax of the battle and it probably should usually feel more like that. It'll be interesting to see what other people think. |

In most of the castle games I've played, there's always some sallying forth. However, the ranged units have such an advantage on the castle wall that, yes, both armies are usually decimated before the door goes down. However, what use are melee figures simply sitting inside the castle? I usually let some of them out to tie up approaching enemies (and grab glyphs). The game usually relies on flyers and ranged units. If the defender can kill enough flyers and ranged units, then they will succeed. If the attacker can get the defenders numbers down to almost nothing, then they have a shot at the castle door (so always hold something big back).
Another factor is the number of rounds. We usually don't even keep track, so there's no incentive to sit and wait inside the castle. So anyway, we usually end up flying and having melee on the battlements. |

Faartknocker,
I'm sorry, but what about this discussion does "not fit into other forums"? I'm very serious. This is an extension of one of a myriad of castle door discussions that have taken place in a myriad of castle door discussion threads. I don't understand the need to create a whole new thread with a self-aggrandizing title to discuss this. Could you please enlighten me? Please take note that this post was neither short nor flippant. I have many other opinions about the content of your post, but I'll keep them to myself for now. Hey, WotC, SIZE MATTERS!

Ok here is one thing we have tried in my games to make takeing the door down more viable. We purposly build a overhang or cover above the door. this povides a safe place in front of the door to lay siege where ranged units inside the castle can not get los on its attackers. The deffenders do have los as the units move into position but once they are fairly close to the door they have cover from above range while they lay siege. I have seen one such example of this build on these boards but ill have to look back to find the pic. I will try and post a pic of mine if i cant find it. Lastly to give the castle deffenders some advantage we also put a wind glyph inside the castle to prevent flying over the walls. This makes the door a must if you want to get to the guys inside. We also house rule the range of the glyph often times to effect only the area around the castle but either way it makes for an interesting siege. If you make the castle door open and nuetral in the beginning of the game also makes for a nice race for position. Who can get inside and shut the door first ect.

Fartnocker, a few things that we do is 1- Don't use the door 2- Halve the life of the door 3- Make up some reason that fits the scenerio that the door is opened at a certain round. Panicked soilder, or perhaps a mindshackled opponent. |

Heroscape however is pretty much straight forward. They talk about either time limits, round limits, or all out assault. Now I don't own the castle, (Yes I know it is a shame, but no job = no money = no castle) but I've yet to here that it came with any real battle set up. Bad-Calvin has however offered an idea that could become one. The whole Panicked Solider/Mindshackeled opponent. A couple of different ideas. Kill the leader. The player who is using the castle must select a a unique hero to be his team leader. Set up conditions could be as follows. Opt. 1 - At the end of round three the Leader must be on the castle walls, if he isn't move his charater to the top of the nearest ladder. Opt 2. - A version of the AE's parachute ability, he simply shows up at a certain point, again on the top of the castle so as to be visible to the enemy. Main idea. If once the leader is killed the gate opens as melee fighters rush out to avenge his death, or people leave in fear. Backstabber No physical figure is neaded to represent this. Either set a round limit, or a kill limit and when that reaches its course, the door is opened by a traitor. Just a few fleshing out of BC's good ideas. |

Grungebob,
New title. I don't know of anyone who would start a thread with their name in it for a little "coffee shop" or even a Quote:
<I did say it!> :P I'm sorry, but I found his tone in his first post to be abrasive. It's totally my fault for being offended. I'll just stay out of Faartknocker's path. Faart, I hope you don't mind if I call you Faart, it's not that you need my permission or anything, but I'm being sincere when I say that I hope you get as much enjoyment out of your thread as I used to mine. Take care. Hey, WotC, SIZE MATTERS!

Grungebob, did you or one of the other moderators change the title of my thread for no reason? If so -I ask for no apologies/explanations- please change it back to "FRIENDS OF FAARTKNOCKER CLUB". As for the comments of other moderators, again, I think the best thing I can do is not respond. Thanks in advance, Grungebob. Cheers!
