Re: The Book of Balrog (Design Phase)
NAME = BALROG
SPECIES = HUMAN UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = ENFORCER PERSONALITY = ARROGANT SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5 LIFE = 4 MOVE = 5 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 4 DEFENSE = 4 POINTS = 150 RAGING BUFFALO Once per round, before taking a turn with Balrog, if he is not engaged you may subtract X from his Move number. X is the number of Wound Markers on this card. If you do, add X to his Attack number, and to your 20-sided die roll when rolling for Balrog's Beatdown special power this turn. BEATDOWN After Balrog attacks an adjacent figure with his normal attack, roll the 20-sided die, subtracting the defending figure's remaining Life from the roll. If you roll 9 or higher, Balrog must attack the same figure again with his normal attack. Balrog cannot attack more than three times in a single turn. BOB AND WEAVE After rolling attack dice for a normal attack or after rolling defense dice, if you rolled at least one shield, you may immediately move Balrog one space. Balrog will not take leaving engagement attacks when moving with Bob and Weave. First version

Re: The Book of Balrog (Design Phase)
Some context: Balrog is a Street Fighter character based on Mike Tyson. He is the bodyguard to M. Bison (big bad villain of Street Fighter). He's a pretty brutal fighter, often going overboard and even killing an opponent once. Enforcer is the current class as it was requested to be moved away from Fighter for thematic reasons. I don't mind a thematic clash and think Fighter is just as appropriate, so I'll go with the majority on this one.
Points is a ballpark. It seems like his offensive potential will outweigh his lack of defensive ability and he'll end up higher than Ryu/Ken/the like, but I could be wrong. Like Superheroes and Comics?

Re: The Book of Balrog (Design Phase)
I can't see him ending up at 180. His attack potential is strong, but nothing that insane (aside from Crazy Buffalo at its highest level, but that's going to be extremely rare), and he's going to go down really, really quickly. The highest I could see him going is 160, personally.

Re: The Book of Balrog (Design Phase)
Yeah, 4 def. & 4 life with no defensive power at all isn't going to give him a very big window of opportunity to operate in. Since he was one of the guys you had to fight past to get to Bison he should be a little tougher to take down. I see him as a guy who doesn't go down to just one punch so maybe a 1W per attack limit power from normal attacks? That means he takes at least 4 punches from Thor or someone and gives him a few chances to punch back, but then something like a Rocket SA could still knock 2 or more W's off him in one go.

IRON-JAWED
The most wounds Balrog can receive from a normal attack is one. |

Re: The Book of Balrog (Design Phase)
5 life doesn't really move the needle IMO. I just took a look to confirm and every Street Fighter Card we have released so far has a SA of some kind, so all this normal foes have a way to deal multiple wounds to him if they so choose.

Re: The Book of Balrog (Design Phase)
BEATDOWN seems too limiting. I'd remove the part about combat dice.

Re: The Book of Balrog (Design Phase)
I still have trouble reconciling a generally normal guy taking a direct hit from Mjolnir and receiving a slight bruise. What about:
IRON-JAWED The most wounds Balrog can receive from a normal attack from a figure without the Super Strength special power is one. Makes him a terror for low-to-mid level heroes, but still allows him to get his face pounded into the pavement by the likes of kryptonians and asgardians - seems fitting for a 'boss' character. |

Re: The Book of Balrog (Design Phase)
I like that no-SS limitation quite a bit Lazy.
