Welcome to Auggies Fire Elemental Squad Custom Contest Poll C!
Please vote for the entry you feel best fulfills the following: 1.Is the entry Completely compatible with official HS game mechanics and rules? 2.Does the entry seem balanced pointwise? 3. Is the wording of the powers Competely compatible with official wording 4.Does the entry bring out the theme of the Mini? Please Remember Consider your vote carefully. I want the winning card to be the Best one here. Read them carefully, and decide whether or not it fits the criteria above. Also, Just because an entry is different, that doesn't make it better. For instance, there are several "Lesser Fire Elementals" cards, and only one "Lava Flickers". That doesn't mean it's Better. The design that gets the most votes will proceed to the next round. Entry 2: Removal of an obstacal on a map that has no life has no precendent in Heroscape.
Entry 3's Combustion needs to be copied in verbatim after Zombies Rise Again. Entry 4 needs some major reworking. |

On entry 5, Floating Sparks, it says the player moving sparks onto a water space may destroy that spark when it moves onto a water space. It should say must (after all, unless an enemy is controlling it somehow, no one would choose to destroy it).

The sparks actually float above the ground, so they can float over water spaces. But enemies controlling the spark can dive them into the water and snuff them out.

The first power on #5 is something I was also considering while brainstorming for my card. I was going to follow the AEs unique squad precedent though as I wasn't sure how well it would play with common squads and though a unique squad should have 4 members so I ended up going in a different direction. Always neat seeing someone else come up with the same or similar ideas as you had.

2 & 3's ressurection powers seem overpowered (3 more than 2) for a 40 point squad.
4 has issues with wording (and graphic design which I don't put weight on in voting however) but I think is too expensive as well. 5 would be better as a common hero with one more attack maybe. It just seems like it would be the most annoying squad ever to play ag ainst especially in combination with the the fire elementals. 1 would get my vote by default then, except the Blaze of Glory is one of the most thematic powers I have seen so far this tourney. My (attempt at impartial) comments:
#1 - These guys would be good as counters for Q9 and other high defense hero if they can get close enough. Deathwalkers would fear them. However, the chance of actually causing a wound with Blaze of Glory is only 20%--and then you automatically lose that Living Flame. Without the Air Elemental, you'll average 1 automatic wound for every 5 destroyed Living Flames. With the Air Elemental, you average 1 automatic wound for every 4 destroyed Living Flames. Another Fire Elemental might be a better bet. #2 - The Searing Flames of Utgar sounds like a fun self-reproducing squad to play. Igniting grass and evergreen trees if very thematic. And it's a common hero squad of 3 that doesn't need to move up new figures from the starting zone. However, 40 points seems very low, even with the 3 Attack and 2 Defense. A 400 point army with 10 squads of Searing Flames on most battlefields (assuming they have grass) seems unbeatable. #3 - With a move of 5 and a defense of 2, it's going to be difficult for the Fire Sparks to get close enough to use Searing Heat. It's also going to be difficult to cause a lot of wounds with a melee squad with 2 attack, but that is balanced by being able to bring back a Fire Elemental. I'm just not sure it seems thematic to bring back an FE with a small elemental. I'd want a Greater Fire Elemental to have that kind of power. #4 - The Flaming Torches don't have Searing Intensity, but their 3 Attack is almost at strong as the Fire Elementals, and they have the same Defense. It just doesn't seem to match their small size. On the other hand, being able to attack again makes sense for a Fire Elemental as the flames spread. #5 - A 10th Regiment takes careful aim and destroys a FE, only to have a swarm of menacing sparks land adjacent to him. On the other hand, the wall of tiny sparks created from destroyed Fire Elementals might be really frustrating to melee armies. Sure they can chop right through that 2 defense, but while they are doing that the Fire Elementals are sneaking up to Sear them. They might make the Firestorm even worse versus melee. (Note: They will be annoying to play against, but not as much as the Deathreavers with their Scatter ability. The Sparks will probably stay where they are until the FE's are destroyed.)
