Bloody Bogle's Custom Battlefields Thread: The Eyrie Added!

I've had Heroscape for eight years, since I was 8 years old. I've had an account on this site for several months now. Its about time I uploaded some of my maps. I tend not to build small, tourney-style maps, rather than use my scape collection to build large battlefields. Here they go. Constructive criticism and other comments are appreciated.


Castle at the Lake:
One of my most recent maps. However, I have since acquired 2 more RotVs and another RttFF, so while I did use almost my entire terrain on this, future projects will be larger! I'm very dissapointed, as I'm realizing that I took no pictures of the cave system underneath the castle. The last 2 pics show the entrance to it, which is underneath the bridge, and can be reached by a sandy path that hugs the cliffs surrounding the lake. It was dark, and a real pain to see into, but I'm upset that there are no pictures regardless.

The finished project:


My friend had a 1400 point army to attack my 700 point defending army. With the exception of the Knight of weston, everyone outside the castle is the remnants of his once gargantuan force.



Bird's eye view:



The airbornes take the passage under the mountainback to the castle, after destroying 2 squads of Drow, Pelloth, and a number of others.



The waterfall. This was my first ever attempt at a waterfall. I wanted to make the fall sparkly, and make the lake and mountain stream normal, but I ran out of sparkly water only 7 tiles short of the top. It could be better, but I'm proud of it considering I've never made one before.



The mountain top. I really enjoy this picture, even though the rest of the battlefield is far from completion. It shows a good view of my custom pillars.

Bird's eye view of the unfinished battlefield. This was taken the same time as the above 2 pics. Also, the crennalations between the mountain and unfinished keep look down over the rear exit of the cave, which, as i said, there are sadly no pictures of.



The knights rush Kaemon Awa and the Majors! The majority of his force was dead, and he had long since given up attempting to storm the castle. It was time to take the fight to him. This also shows a pretty good view of the tunnel under the mountain, and the exit to the cave behind the castle.



A good look at the causeway. To this day no army has been able to successfully storm it.

The Gorge:
This map was constructed by myself and a friend. I'll admit that the idea of the map was his idea, though I came up with most of the physical construction process. This is not one of my favorite maps, mostly because of its clunkiness and the fact that my friend came up with half the work. This is nothing against him, I'm just more proud of things I achieve on my own rather then things where somebody else did half the work. There's also not too many pictures on this map either. However, these 2 maps have led me to the realization that I do need to take more, so future projects should have as much as twice the pictures. It was still incredibly fun to play on, despite my complaints. The bridges became extremely narrow chokepoints, and flying and range units became extremely key, leading to much sniping and flying across the gorge.

Main view of the map. I only played one game on this map, actually, before moving on to build Castle at the Lake. I don't believe they're pictured, but treasure glyphs had been placed down below, leading to flying units grabbing them to make for an intense first round. The bridges were where the majority of the fighting took place, though 2x Sentinels of Jandar were able to fly across the gorge after securing the glyphs, and with the chokepoint bypassed, I was able to ensure a quick and decisive victory. The battle below was one-sided as well, as Drake rolled incredibly well for me and I was able to break into his base very quickly.

Back view reveals open sides that could have led to intense fighting, except that our armies were busy elsewhere. Eventually the Sentinels of Jandar were able to fly in through this opening after the people above had been killed.

(3/14/12) Dwarven Mine:
My brother had a lego dwarven mine he got for Christmas a year or so ago. When I saw it in storage, inspiration hit. Easily my favorite map I've made, it took about 4-6 hours to make. after seeing how few pictures I have of the previous 2, I went a bit overkill on this one. Maybe more than a bit, but whatever. Without further ado, I present to you my greatest map EVER:

(2/26/13) The Eyrie:
After several long months of procrastination, and a month of getting photobucket to work, I am finally present: The Eyrie! Had I started out building this knowing it would end up as the Eyrie, there are definitely some changes on the base of the mountain that would have been done. But it is what it is. No Dwarven Mine, but I like it.

And now, some pics of the approach to the castle, designed by a friend. I see what he was going for, with a narrow path up the mountain, with a steep drop to one side, and a cliff face on the other, but I'm not exactly happy with how it turned out. It was too flat, too roundabout, and, most importantly, should have filled the giant lack of a mountain right by where the Moon Door drops to, blocking that ugly under area and swamp.






A Skycell. The ladder could be slid upwards, allowing access to the cell, thereby doubling as a cell door.



The Skycell above is actually not the one on the right, but is above that very large 7-hex swamp stack, visible on the left.



The backside of the staircase held the other end of the Skycell ladder.

My next map, which started out as a village, with a fortified town hall, has since turned into a fortified building, with a collection of huts and a ruined wall surrounding the whole thing. But you'll all see that when I post the pictures. My point is that its finished, and as long as I'm not as lazy as I was the last time, pics will be up hopefully in a week or two.
