My time to leave ... kinda
Testing 1 . 2 . 3 . 4 ... squads of rats it is!
Alright everyone I am going to keep this as ... simple as possible. Since 2006 I have been a member of our community known as Heroscapers.com. However since the begging of 2009 and forward I have been very inactive with this community. As many of you know my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2006. Just 6 months ago our family has finally returned to somewhat of a normal status as she finished with her final doctors appointment for that plague. In addition to those hardships in late 2008 my father required an emergency cornea transplant (he literally woke up and could not use his left eye) and was lucky enough to still be able to see out of it now. This was in the midst of almost being forced into retirement by his bureau that had employed him for over 35 years. Now to reflect on myself. Me as a person, I am extremely lazy when I am unmotivated or uninterested. Because of the extra stress of my parents situations AND more so because of my ... blind eye to the importance of education I struggled all the way through school, graduating with a 2.7GPA from highschool, and no joke at all had not one friend because I would not beat up the middle school dork in 8th grade and everyone held a grudge till the day we graduated. This is where I want to come out and say something very simple, I am not looking for a pity party. I am making this post for very different reasons. Those are to be stated now. 1) I absolutely love heroscape. I first saw the game in a donation box and thought that the figures looked amazing! I was drawn to it and it was not even on the street where I was walking with my family. It was in a hotel. I ran inside and looked at it for half a second and knew I had to have it. From there on I did as much as possible to get and did so by making it the only thing on my Xmas list that year. Since then I think about it everyday, in some fashion, and will go out of my way to play it. I love this game. 2) I love this community. I literally had never picked up any interest in art until I saw my first custom terrain piece on here. After that I decided I needed to make my customs. First it was terrain, then figures, then cards, then maps. This community is the reason I have had the opportunity to realize I love art and I love creation. Not only that though. I was given my first responsibility by Cycoduck as a helper to his baby the Speed Custom Terrain Contest. From that I eventually assumed responsibility for the contest and began to work the the great man that is Leifkicker. This community trusted me during one of the greatest spikes in heroscapes history of custom creations and I am honored to have been on that path. This website helped develop my sense of responsibility, artistic talent, and social skills, it also taught me how to type which I never had the opportunity of in school. (Now I just need to touch up my grammar) 3) In 2008 I got my Eagle Scout Award with the Boy Scouts of America. My troop was ... lazy, and thats where my only friends were, so I get where the attitude came from. But seriously scouts was the second largest benefactor to me sticking around. It is mainly because of my employment with them as well. For the last 4 years I have worked at a summer camp for the scouts and at this camp is where I re socialized, made fiends, and ultimately set myself to make things right. I just wanted to take a minute to thank you the Boy Scouts of America. Those reasons were thank you s, and thank you is what I wanted to say in this post, thank you to heroscape and scouts for keeping me going and thank you to them and this community for literally molding me into a better person over the years. Now here is the kinda part. I have taken this first half and the next half of the academic school year off to straighten myself out. Now at the end of the upcoming 2012 summer I will be attending a 4 years college with dorms and all that good jazz. It has become obvious to me making customs will not be an option and now I do not have the means to pursue custom making for the foreseeable future even before then. I am also going to be parting with my collection of customs (terrain and figures) which all will be up for sale. That will be posted in the sales thread soon enough. The next point is the Speed Custom Contests. They have been inactive for over a year now. I am officially throwing in my belt as the moderator of those contests. Have no fear though, I am currently in the middle of transferring all the info and power of to a proper predecessor who will start them up again soon. Finally my last thing to discuss is my activity with heroscapers. While I will never leave, I will be scarce. I plan to continue to make maps and the occasional card for a figure I see online. MY hopes are to start play testing for C3V whenever possible. I also am working on educating myself more on the subject of competitive play. You can expect to see me in a lot more unit and army discussion threads. My final dedication will be attending and hopefully volunteering at GenCon for the next foreseeable years. I thank you everyone on here who read what I have to say and to everyone who has had an impact on my heroscape experience and my personal life... forever. I would like to just end with one thought ...................................................................... ................................ Re: My time to leave ... kinda
I'll be sad to see you be here less, but I have been so glad to know you here (and the Easter thread will always live on!). More than that, I'm glad that you are living up to important goals.
If Scape or Scapers gets in the way of things that are deeply important in real life, they should be appropriately put on the backburner, no question. I am glad, though, to see you mention playtesting for the C3V, when you can. I've been really impressed with what the group is doing and how much the community has helped. And I would absolutely love to see your playtests, when you can. All best to you, chief! Mmirg New?
