[The Grim Reaper's Friend]

Greetings, one and all! I have decided, as should be all too obvious, to start my own fan art thread. I will attempt to update this fairly regularly, and will include the following:

1. HeroScape The largest category, this will contain pictures of HeroScape figures and other HeroScape related topics.
2. Non HeroScape This category will be small, and will contain some non-HeroScape drawings. I will limit them to the best, so you won't have to wade through all the many (and occasionally disturbing, humorous, and insanely strange) ideas floating around in my head.

For the more drawing interested people out there, I draw on normal drawing paper and use primarily pencil and occasionally charcoal. I use the charcoal only to fill areas in with a darker black, nothing else. I usually color my drawings with colored pencils. Unfortunately, I have found that this can make the lines of the pencil hard to locate, and can lead to the drawing becoming blended. To cure this, my recent drawings will have a copy at the pencil stage.
A note about my drawing style. You may notice while looking at them, that most of my drawings have a slight cartoony feel about them. This is NOT my intention. It is the way my drawings come out, unless I am looking at the item I am drawing. I try to draw with more of a realistic feel, but I haven't reached it yet.

Now for some more well-known figures, let's start with Sven, (good old gamjuven!)

Yes, I will be doing a remake of this to fix the head. The rest looks decent though, right?

And finally, Shurrak. Unfortunately, something went very wrong with Shurrak's legs, and he ended up being a fire dwarf. Either way, I really like this one. I may not color it.

Negative Space Art
These drawings are my more recent ones. I will explain what I mean by negative space in the first drawing.

The first one in this collection is of a Marro Drudge:

This is how I draw them using negative space. First, I shade in a square area with pencil and blend it with a blending stump, so that it is uniform. Then, looking at the figure, I erase its general shape out of the shaded area. This helps with proportions and size in general. Once I have the white area, I draw in a basic sketch of the figure. Here's the one for the Marro Drudge. I will post the negative space sketch with each drawing, for those of you who are interested.


After that, I shade another square in on the other side of the paper with the sketch on it (above). Then, lying the paper flat on the paper I want the drawing to be on, I trace the sketch over with a normal pencil. That transfers the sketch in a very light pencil to the paper. Then I just trace over that, add the details, and color. Here is the finished product.

Next up, we have Agent Carr battling a Feral Troll

This is my first negative space drawing of an action scene (semi action) with two figures!

And now the final:

A note to those planning on drawing Agent Carr: draw him form the back. There are two possible reasons for this.
1. It is very difficult to get the 'Agent Carr look' on the face or
2. You cannot draw the front of Agent Carr due to his pure awsomeness.

And now, I am pleased to introduce, one of my favorites, Tor-Kul-Na. The remake, that is.

The folded lien you see in the middle is where I decided that his arms were the right length, but the rest of him was a bit to tall. So I cut his body using the fold, but drew his arms without the fold. The end result, with added details, and, fortunately, no head elongation, was this.

Wow, you've got some great stuff here TGRF! Mimring, Braxas, and SBN are definitely your best ones. Keep it up!

I highly recommend buying a pack of artist's ink pens at your local office store.

Like these ones for example:

That way, after you draw the drawing in pencil, you can trace over the lines in pen. Then erase all the stray pencil lines and you are ready to color. Without the pen, like you said, the drawing becomes blended, and it is difficult for the viewer to recognize some details that got lost in the coloring. Definitely look into it, your already great drawings will be even better.

Thanks for the tip, WB. I'll look into that. I've tried inking it over before, but the black line always seems to add to the cartoon look. Maybe a really thin line would help in that. Thanks for the comments, guys!

Update time, everyonhe! I ahve been experimentign with negative space, soon to be explained for those of you who do nto knwo what it is, and have come out with my first results. I think these new drawings will be much better than their predecessors. The first is a Marro Drudge.
