Heroscape Empires Variant
Heroscape Empires Variant
This is a variation I thought up for very large games for those with very large collections. It utilizes Gary Lasq's MOP system (kudos to him), which is explained in detail here: http://heroscape.glasq.com/mops.xhtml. The following rules are very rough and I would greatly appreiciate feedback on any modifications that should be made. Set up: Various MOPs will have to be pre-made in order to draft them during the game. Each player drafts 500 points consisting of a MOP and at least one unit. You must select a MOP of at least 100 points and any number of units totaling at least 100 points. (The total between the two must be, of course, 500 points or less) These numbers could be modified for larger or smaller games, or multiplayer games. *Note: Players keep any points they do not spend. Each player should keep a running total of their points throughout the game. The reason for this will be explained shortly. A center MOP should be placed in the center of the playing field. This MOP should be very basic. Each player attaches their MOP to the center piece. (Each player's designated area extends outward from the center MOP in a sort of pie slice shape.) Players then place their armies on their MOP. Units may be placed on any space they can stand on other than a border space (the outside edge of the MOP) or molten lava space. Then each player draws three Mission Cards from their own Mission Card deck. You must keep at least two and may choose which to keep. Follow any initial instructions on the cards you kept, then place your Mission Cards nearby and do not allow opponents to see them. Mission Cards: Each Mission Card will have: 1. Title - the name of the mission 2. Initial instructions - these are to be followed immediately as the card is obtained. 3. Mission Objective - this will describe the goal and parameters of the mission. 4. Reward - this is what you will obtain upon completing the mission. The reward is typically a point value that will be added to your total, but it may include other things. When you complete a Mission Card: 1. Reveal the Mission Card you completed to your opponent (to verify you have completed it). 2. Discard the Mission Card. 3. Collect rewards. Add any points gained to your total and follow instructions for any other rewards. **I have not really thought out what mission cards I might include, and again, feedback would be helpful. One rough example would be: Retrieve the Package - Reward 50 points. Initial: Place an artifact glyph on the center space of the center mop. Objective: Bring the package back to your territory by moving a figure onto the glyph and then placing the glyph on that figure's army card. Move the hero onto one of your MOPs to complete the mission.** At the beginning of each round: 1. Expand your empire: You may choose to add a MOP to your battlefield. To do so, simply select a MOP and deduct its point value from your total. Then attach the MOP to one of your existing MOPs within your designated area. 2. Gain reinforcements: You may choose to draft additional units to your army. Players should take turns doing this. You may not draft any more than three units or 300 points worth of units in one round. As you draft each unit, immediately place it on any of your MOPs, following the same guidelines as mentioned in the set-up phase. 3. Take turns normally. *The twenty-sided die should be rolled to determine who goes first for each item above. Other ways to earn points: When you destroy an opponent's unit, you gain points according to its point value. Divide the destroyed unit's points by two (round down if neccessary) and subtract ten. This is how many points you gain from that unit. To get points from a squad you must kill all of its members. You may not gain less than zero points. I'm sure I sound overly redundant, but feedback and constructive criticism is appreciated on how I can improve these rules. Sleep. Eat. Heroscape. Repeat. ![]() Trade List | Battle Reports Hm. Re: Heroscape Empires Variant
I was throwing around a similar idea in my head inspired by Tower defense style games. Your Mission system is great way to add more points. I also think that you should be able to gather points for drafting by occupying high ground or other terrain at the end of rounds or by destroying enemy figures. This idea has great potential and I'd like to see this Mission idea expanded upon. i'm sure there is some sort of game we can raid Mission ideas from for this.

Re: Heroscape Empires Variant
Occupying key points could work well (but I did already include points for destroying enemy figures - towards the bottom). Thanks for the tip!

I believe someone on this site did an objective-based card deck of some sort. I think it was Quests of HeroScape or something. They have the cards in the Downloads section of the site. I'll try and see if I can find the post where I saw them. EDIT: Found it! Quests of HeroScape. |

Re: Heroscape Empires Variant
If you're looking for mission ideas, there's something along those lines in the downloads section iirc...
EDIT: Got it: Quests of Heroscape |
