Greetings, one and all! After requesting permission from IAmBatman and RevDyer, I have decided to restart this thread, seeing as the previous version was last updated over a year ago. If I have forgotten anything, or have any spelling errors in here, please post a reply telling me what it is and providing a link, if necessary. Please do NOT use this thread as a chat room for the individual fictions/art. A note on the entries
Spoiler Alert!
Each item will have a title, which will be linked, and an author or artist. Beneath that will be a rating from 1-5. (fan fictions only) The ratings are based off of the individual readers' personal opinions and have been averaged out. Beneath the rating will be a status. (Also only for fan fiction) If it is 'Being Written,' it has yet to be posted, but will be along shortly. If it is 'Active' or 'Completed,' the statuses are rather self-explanatory. If it is 'Not Active,' it is not completed, and is not being updated. 'On hold' indicates that the fan fiction is... uh... on hold.
Below the status will be a description. I can describe those fan fictions that I have read, but those are a minority. If you would like to provide a description for something, please PM it to me and I'll put it in.
Updates
Spoiler Alert!
Items will be entered automatically into the index throughout the year as I find them. Something will be indexed only when, assuming it is a fiction, it has one and a half pages. Art threads will be indexed no matter what. If you see something that should be indexed but is not, please let me know either here or in a PM.
A full update will occur every winter. A full update will include... um... everything. All entries will be updated if needed (statuses, Descriptions, links) and new ratings will be procured for all the entries that are ratable (fan fictions). Full updates usually take a very long time to do, which is why there is only one per year.
If you want anything else to be added to the thread regarding the articles, PM me or leave a post. I hope you enjoy!
The General Fan Art and Fiction Discussion Thread
This thread is meant to access the fan art and fiction community at large. It can be highly useful for a variety of things. You may want to check it every now and then for updates.
New to Fan Fiction? Start Here!
Spoiler Alert!
New to Fan Fiction? This is where you start. Based on ratings, statuses, and other information, I have compiled this small section of the index for users new to the forum. If you’re not sure where to start reading, look through these, pick which one looks good, and begin!
Not all of these are novels of epic length, so you can read them easily within a few sittings. They are all the highest rated fiction in their category, as well.
So, pick what sounds good, and enjoy!
Best classical ‘Scape Fiction.
These are fictions that are filled with the classic touch of HeroScape. Ninjas, Soldiers, Soulborgs, it’s all in there.
Pending (No fiction meets the requirements for starting)
Best Classical HERO-Scape Fiction
These are fictions that follow a single person. They are also classical ‘Scape. The difference between these and plain Classical ‘Scape fictions are that these remain more isolated, while the others are more open, and introduce a wider variety of characters.
The Wind in the Trees Rating 5, Status: Completed
Bumper15 appeared out of nowhere with this incredible fan fiction. He almost immediately became the highest rated author on the site, and all through the Wind in the Trees, a must for any fan fiction reader.
Best Underdark HeroScape Fiction
As the title suggests, these are fictions that center around, or have a lot, of the Underdark theme.
Crawl Through the Dungeon Rating: 4, Status: Not Active.
I have not read this, but I have had the chance to read other material written by the author. Dragonfire9788 is known to be highly funny, and to overindulge in lengthy writing. On that note, I should expect that this is a highly interesting read. It is not finished.
Best Non-HeroScape Fiction
These are fictions that do not follow the line of HeroScape. Even so, most of them are quite good.
Pending (No fan fiction met the requirements for starting)
Best Epic HeroScape Fiction
In the mood for epic battles? This is the fan fiction for you.
The Flag Bearer Wars Rating: 5, Status: Completed.
I have not read this, but the author, when he was around, was near the top.
Best Zombie Story
For some reason, many people have made zombie stories. These are usually non-HeroScape, but still some of the best out there. They tend to be darker, hence the different category.
The Final Battleground Rating: 5, Status: completed
This is the first zombie story that I have ever written, but it turned out fairly well. At least until the end. I was planning on having it connect to one of my other fictions, but at the last moment I ran into a problem and had to come up with an impromptu ending. Duly, I have provided an alternate ending as well.
Best Marro Fiction
For those of you who like the marro, (like me) this is where you begin.
A New Marr Rating: 4, Status, Completed
From skimming through it, I can tell that if you like the marro, this is what you read.

Fan Fiction by Author Under Construction.
For a description of any listed item in this category, please refer to the corresponding listing in the alphabetical category, below. Note: Do not take the rating of authors as they appear. Any author with a 3.5 or above is good in general opinion, and worth reading. 4.5 or higher usually indicates that you cannot afford to NOT read the author.

Determined to stay with his friend, Kit starts out after Derrick, but soon discovers that more is happening than he suspected. Full of humor and engagingness, Orcs Blade has written this fan fic in short chapters, making it easier to read. The best part of it all is that there is a sequel to it, Vengeance.

Exciting new developments occur nearly every chapter in this incredible fan fiction, The Wind in the Trees. Be sure to have a look.

Short Fictions These are Fictions that are normally only one isntallment long. There aren't very many, but they are out there, so I thought they should be included. Since there is only one installment, they are all completed. Most will not have a description, as they are too short to describe anything without giving it away.

Contests (2)
Spoiler Alert!
Fan Art Contest: Are you the best artist? by Wonderball68
Status: Not active
The fan art contest works much the same way as the fan fic contest. It has the same general rules and guidelines. The only difference is the art. While some of us feel that drawing may simply not be what we are best at, Wonderball has made it clear that the contest will be judged according to creativity, and not skill. Although not active, it is only because there was not enough interest in it. Wonderball will be happy to continue it. Feel free to drop by and submit your drawing.
Fan Fic Contest: Are You the Best Writer? by the Grim Reaper's Friend
Status: Definitely active
The Fan Fic Contest is a great place to test out your writing skills and get feedback on them. There is a new challenge every week, and you can write a story in answer to that challenge. Who knows? You might be the next first place winner! Be sure to see the first post for rules and details.
Fan Fic Contest Archive
A very useful thread, this archive documents all of the stories submitted in the fan fic contest (see above). It is a fast and easy way to see all of the submissions, and the winners, to each challenge. Please do not post in it unless you are updating it, and if you are, be sure to note where you left off in the 'reason for editing' box.

'Scape in the non-'Scaper World by The Deadliest Warrior

The Deadliest Warrior has found many businesses, books, and logos featuring HeroScape characters, so be sure to check it out to see them all. Personally, I wouldn't be to enthusiastic when the Swog entered the hospital...
Prison Faction by Various Authors
Status: Completed
I wasn't sure if I should put this under fan fiction or contests, so I put it here. A broad topic is introduced, several characters made by different people, and a great fan fiction is born full of adversity, detail, and engagingness. Different people post, writing the story from their own character's view. If you want something to read that is bound to meet your interests, read the Prison Faction. (I have not read it yet, and am speaking in theory.)

New to Writing?
Spoiler Alert!
Looking to start a fan fiction? We encourage whatever you have to post. In my indexing, I have seen many a fiction that started strong, but was dropped after a few chapters. This is, unfortunately, the fate of many a fiction. The below threads will, I hope, aid you in making your fiction stick. Remember, anyone can be a writer.
The Inner Critic
Ever feel that your writing wasn't good enough or could still be better? Say hello to your inner critic. The writers of fan fiction have supplied an answer to this question here. Be sure to view this thread, even if you aren't new to writing. It can be a great help.

I love this idea. Its great to bring back the classic things of "who should read this." I encourage others as much as the next person to continue to bring out there story telling skills and to show what you got.
oh and TGRF, I have plenty more stories coming up, I am just halfway through the second and I'm getting onto another chapter and it will come up very soon. I just hope more people just post what they think and tell me if what I'm doing is alright or If I should amp things up on the story.
Bro-man is Ninja of the Nothern Wind...
on the BATTLEFIELD...
It's really nice to see this finally being updated. Although there was one problem I saw. While I am speaking for Elven Lord, Slink is Elven Lord's character through and through. Originally used in last year's joint story, Prison Faction, I borrowed him as, while writing the joint story, they grew close and it was hinted that they were both sent to Valhalla as a result of the same battle. I put him in the beginning of my story because it fit and because I didn't know Elven Lord was going to make a story of his own.
Thanks for the update, Bumper15. I'll put that in. I'm just going through the pages of this forum, linking everything I find. As I really haven't read or looked a lot of the stuff on here, though, I could really use other people's ratings and descriptions. Feel free to PM me on anything you want. Just include a link so I'll know what you are talking about.
Oh, and Bumper, about the four, I reserve five for the absolute best stories I have ever read. Believe me, yours is pretty good. I rated it before I started the decimal ratings, so I think I'll fix that now.
I'm just getting all of the links on here right now. Once they're all here, I'll organize them and improve the entries.
Last Apocalypse is currently no longer being printed so to speak. I have started a new zombie Apocalypse story that will hopefully Do better then the last seeing as I actually have a plan for it.
Well, I don't know. I guess it's just not my favorite fic out there. Don't get me wrong, it's great and I enjoy reading it... 3.7 is really good. Mainly the sudden changes gave it the 3.7. Obviously, you can't spend all the time you did on Slink with the others... but it's bound to get better as the story goes along and you get introduced to them more. As I can't rate the future writings, I ahve to give it what it is right now. Maybe I should try a predicted rating instead of a current rating? It would be less acurate if someone was looking at it who had never seen it before.
I'm going to get all the links in and then start revising my stuff, like I said. I'll take polls and get better ratings first thing.
Think of it this way: a rating of 1 is the worst you can get. It means that it "has room for improvement." That means it isn't bad at all, but simply could be better. therefore a 3 is really good.
Just... act like the rating isn't there for the moment. I'm trying to get these things linked as fast as possible, so bear with me. My time is limited (As you know.).
Excellent job TGRF. I was pleasantly surprised to see Eslo on the list. Only one tale takes place in Valhalla. I am honored to be included and greatly appreciate your kind words... peace
TGRF is probably one of the best writers on this sight. More than likely, he is also the most active. His ratings are high calibre, to be sure. Although, if you'll forgive my uselessness, I can't seem to find the ratings. Did you remove the ones you had posted? Because I don't see them anywhere.
Thanks for the awesome description, Grim Reaper. Now I feel guilty for not posting another chapter in a while. I had better get on that...
Well, I figured I would get all the links in and then post ratings. That way I could ask everyone who had read it. Also, it would be more of a solid rating, and not just my own. So they'll be back once all the links are in. Yours was something like a 4.7 or 4.9. I've also decided to wait on the descriptions, allowing people to write up their own if they wish. You will be PMed for your description, or you can send it in now, if you'd like.
Also, if anyone has started any stories, you'll have to let me know. I'm just going through the pages, and any new stories will be missed.
Okay, this is the situation. The days have apparently conspired amongst themselves and decided to shorten the days over here, so I'm not having to much time to put in all the links. The fact that there is a grand total of 39 pages of things waiting to be linked might also have something to do with it.
So, here is my proposal: I stop once I get past page 10. After that, all the people who have been here longer than I have and remember the good old stories, can post here, and I'll put them in. The majority of the pages I'm going through right now are fan fics with one or two chapters posted, so nothing much should be missed, and what is can be mentioned and added in. Some of the fan art sites might be missed this way, but I'm sure that other people will remember them all and post links to them. If we all work together to get this complete, I can work on organizing it and getting in ratings and descriptions. Then we will have a good index started, waiting for more spectacular items to fill its pages.
