Tmac2200's Custom Thread

I once had my custom thread but the cards were not very high quality; so I am starting a new one where I will be using the MSE card making software so that the cards will look better. I will also be posting the names and sets of the miniatures. I am hoping to make (a) character(s) that get inducted in SOV. I just want these to be a higher quality and I will remake some of my old customs aswell.

Mechs! I love Mechs! I would change the Overheat to one wound per use, or increase the number needed to use the special. At 14 or higher, he's going to make the roll around 40% of the time. That's pretty good. But if he gets it 2x in a row, he going to be removed from play by overheating, probably without really influencing the game. I'd think about increasing it to 17 or 18.

I would suggest the same, the addition of a wound marker every time his ability is activated.

Additionally, maybe you want to change the point at which you make the decision, to better balance the currently 35% chance at activation. Something like "After taking a turn with Ocelot, you may place a wound marker on Ocelot. If you do, and Ocelot is still in play, roll a 20-sided die. If you roll a 14 or higher, immediately take another turn with Ocelot."

With the added risk of taking the damage and receiving no extra turn, I don't think there's any reason to change the 14-and-up roll percentage. Even though you could potentially get three free turns, and still have him on the board, you could also end up whiffing on all three activations.

Edit: Wow, that errata I came up with is scarily reminiscent of errata from my old MTG days. That's been quite some time

Actually, the power does say that it's optional, so the two extra turns are really not going to happen often, only if he rolls well AND there's some serious incentive for doing it.

True, it is indeed optional. However, I still think that giving you the die roll before deciding is a poor option.

Also, and as the current wording goes, it would be a total of (assuming no other wounds are incurred)three extra turns over his entire lifespan, not necessarily back-to-back. With no stated way of keeping physical track of how many times the ability was used, this has the potential for "Oh, I forgot that I already used that twice before" abuses. I'm not saying anyone would do it on purpose, but adding a wound every activation ensures that everyone stays on the up-and-up, while not adding any further complexity in the form of usage tracking.

Well I wanted to word it to where it was not an option to roll after you decide to roll once but I did not know how to word it in such a way. As in you take your first turn, then you decide to use the ability, and after that you keep rolling until you either fail or die.

Ah, gotcha. So, you want the initial activation to be optional, but once he's "in overdrive," he's unable to be stopped. I still think the wound-per-extra-turn is still a good idea. If that's the case, I think I can muster up some errata for him. Bear with me, I'm just rolling out of bed, and it may come off a bit less than optimal.

"After taking a turn with Ocelot, you may choose to roll a 20-sided die. If you roll a 13 or below, Ocelot's turn ends normally. If you roll 14 or above, place a wound marker on Ocelot, and take another turn with Ocelot. Once you activate Overheat, you must continue to do so until you have failed to roll a 14 or above, or until Ocelot is destroyed."

How's that? It's a bit more wordy than my first attempt, but I think it gets your intention across.

EDIT: I messed with the wording alittle and I think I have it right now. I changed it to where the wound is received at the conclusion of the turn instead of the beginning, it makes more sense that the heat is built up after me moves.

So now that the powers are down, what about the point value and the stats? I want him to be nearly perfect.

Hmph, as for the point values and stats, I'm honestly too green to suggest much. Something is telling me that 150 points sounds right, but take that with a grain of salt.

My talents are all errata-based, due to many, many years of MTG. I've only had the opportunity to play maybe a dozen games of HS.

Nice, Tmac, I really like the idea and theme of Ocelot.

If I may, there are a few wordings that sound a bit unofficial. Here's a couple of possible changes: (changes in blue are optional, changes in red I'd insist on more)
Overheat: After taking a turn with Ocelot, you may roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 1-13, Ocelot's turn ends normally nothing happens and Ocelot's turn ends. If you roll a 14 or higher, you must take another turn with Ocelot, at the conclusion of Ocelot's turn, place a wound marker on Ocelot. After every additional turn with Ocelot, place one wound marker on his card and you must roll for Overheat again. Once you have activated Overheat, you must continue to roll after each turn until you have failed to You must continue to roll for Overheat until you do not roll a 14 or higher, or until Ocelot is destroyed.
And if that's a bit too hard to read, It'd look like this:
Overheat: After taking a turn with Ocelot, you may roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 1-13, nothing happens and Ocelot's turn ends. If you roll a 14 or higher, you must take another turn with Ocelot. After every additional turn with Ocelot, place one wound marker on his card and you must roll for Overheat again. I also like your Aquilla's Personal Guard, though I'm having trouble understanding the reason it has Blocking, and what Blocking represents.
