Re: The Beast of the East (Rhode Island, Date and Location T
I'm hoping I'll have information on the location of the tournament tonight. I've edited the first post in this thread to reflect that the tournament will be 520 points, and it will be on August 20th.

Re: The Beast of the East (Rhode Island, Date and Location T
I hate double posting, but hopefully this is warranted...
I believe I have the location for the tournament, Game On (formerly Veteran's Gaming) in Warwick, RI. The store is pretty epic, and has just gone under new ownership, and they seemed really excited to host a tournament such as this. Certain details about the tournament will most likely change (ie admission, etc), but the core aspects of the tournament will stay the same (format and point total). You will all be notified when the details have been ironed out. I am also curious, and I'm probably going to make a thread about this. I want to do something different with this tournament, something focusing on fun, but kind of gives players who do something epic and unexpected a bonus for doing it (you all know the things I'm talking about, one shoting a hero, rolling 8 shields on a defense roll, etc, etc). I want something fun, but not game changing, so what are your thoughts on.... Achievements? All players will be given a list of say, 10 achievements to record throughout the day (example, one shot a hero, roll more than 5 skulls on an attack roll, roll 5 or more shields on a defense roll, etc, etc). For each achievement a player makes while playing, and signed to verify by their opponent, they receive 10 points to be added to their final total. All in all, 100 possible bonus points isn't a huge deal...but gives a benefit to these awesome plays. Thoughts? If no one likes it, or it mathematically wouldn't work, it will be scrapped. It's just an idea I'd like to see thoughts on. The cake is a lie. -Insert Witty Signature Here- |

Re: The Beast of the East (Rhode Island, Date and Location T
Can we have an address? Possibly with google map link?
Achievements sounds fun as long as you keep them simple enough for everyone to remember. You don't want to hand out homework that has everyone double checking a list every few minutes. |

Re: The Beast of the East (Rhode Island, Date and Location T
I have some ideas for you. Kind of like what they did at recent MTG launch parties. You can participate if you want to, so you don't have to if you think it will distract you or it's too much to remember or whatever the reason. But those who do participate can get a small bonus. I'd say 100 points would be fine, but I would place a rule that achievement points cannot put someone in first place. If someone has 1500 points, then someone with 1450 comes along, turns in their sheet, and swipes first, I don't think that's fair. You shouldn't lose your victory because you didn't one-shot a hero or something like that.

Re: The Beast of the East (Rhode Island, Date and Location T
The simpler, the better. It would be great to just run a smooth tournament with what you have already.
BTW, you could edit the title now that you know the date and location. Click "edit post", then "go advanced" to be able to edit the title. |

Re: The Beast of the East (Rhode Island, Date and Location T
The achievement thing sounds pretty cool to me. I would be willing to give it a try.

Re: The Beast of the East (Rhode Island, Date and Location T
Once all of the details are ironed out, I'll be editing the title, location, and add links to location's facebook, website, and google maps. I want to make sure that we have a "this is what's occurring, and when, this is when you can expect us to be there" set in stone...just in case. That'll hopefully be done by the end of the week.
Anyways, here's a list of achievements I started thinking about.... Immovable Object: Roll five or more shields on a defense roll. Unstoppable force: Roll five or more skulls on an attack roll. Unknown Hero: Get the killing blow on a hero with a non-unique piece. Troop Slayer: Kill three or more non-unique figures with the same unique hero. Did I do that?: Get four or more wounds on a unique hero with four or more life in the same attack roll. More to come... The cake is a lie. -Insert Witty Signature Here- |

Re: The Beast of the East (Rhode Island, Date and Location T
Still working on the achievement list....thoughts on these?
Immovable Object: On a successful defense roll, roll five or more shields. Unstoppable force: On a successful attack roll, roll five or more skulls. Rising through the Ranks: Get the killing blow on a hero with a non-unique piece. Troop Slayer: Kill three or more non-unique figures with the same unique hero. Battle Frenzy: Get four or more wounds on an opposing unique hero with four or more life in the same attack roll. The Lone Gunman: Successfully win a match with only one piece left on the board. Mirror Match: Using a similar piece as your opponent, deal one or more wounds to that piece using the same piece. Battle of the Bulge: Win the game with all of your pieces ending the game in your starting zone. Slash and Burn: Win the game with all of your pieces ending the game in your opponent's starting zone. The Luck of the Mombo: In the same game, roll three or more skulls in the same defense roll, three or more shields in the same attack roll, and roll a 5 or less on an initiative roll. (The Luck of the Mombo is my personal favorite The cake is a lie. -Insert Witty Signature Here- |
