Maps for Noobs
I recently went over to a friend's house. I noticed that all he had was the SotM set. Can you imagine having to start with that? There are only around 5 1-hex tiles in it!
We really were struggling to get a good, balanced map made. So I decided to create this- a compilation for everyone who started getting terrain after 'Scape was discontinued. The easier-to-find sets from around November include- Swarm of the Marro Battle for the Underdark Marvel: the conflict begins Fortress of the Archkyrie That's not a lot to work with. So my challenge is to make a compilation of maps using only these sets. The specific rules- Maps may only include up to three of the previously mentioned sets. No more than two master sets may be used per map. Swarm of the Marro- up to one may be used per map Battle for the Underdark- up to two may be used per map Marvel: the conflict begins- up to one may be used per map Fortress of the Archkyrie- up to one may be used per map Maps currently in the MFN Arcane Sanctum by Panopticon. I think that it's a fine idea and will help new scapers. The requirements are a little strict but then again those are the main terrain sets that are easily obtainable by new scapers. However, seeing as a lot of mapmakers will include RotV, RttFF and other sets of the sort, I would suggest making new maps for this and requesting that others do the same instead of trying to dig up already made maps that fit the requirements. If it ever came to the point of being an official group, I could judge if needed seeing as I have all of those sets.

Yeah. I guess I worded it wrong, but I am requesting this. Please submit new or known maps that fit the requirements.

Anyway, its the thought that counts. And thinking of thinking (wait... what?) I think I want a panel of judges to find and induct these maps into... the MFN (cue choirs of angels and dramatic theme song) Rules- Part 1. The format of submitted maps- 1. All maps must be made from up to three (3) of the following: Battle for the Underdark, Marvel: the Conflict Begins, Fortress of the Archkyrie, and/or Swarm of the Marro. 2. Terrain limits: The maximum number of duplicates for each set is as follows: One (1) Marvel: the Conflict Begins, One (1) Fortress of the Archkyrie, One (1) Swarm of the Marro, and Two (2) Battle for the Underdark. 3. All maps must be made for two players. 4. Maps should be balanced and suited for tournament play for armies between 400 and 600 points. 5. All maps must include twenty-four starting zones for each of the two (2) players. 6. Anyone can nominate a map for review, but it will not be reviewed without a majority vote from the judges. 7. Submitted maps must include build instructions and must be in .pdf format. 8. Glyphs are not required, but may be used if wished. 9. Symbol side-up treasure glyphs must include a trap. Part 2. Clarifications on special terrain- 1. Warehouse ruins may not be used in a map. 2. Castle walls may be uncapped, as this set includes the best collections of line of sight blockers available to a new player. 3. The Marro hive may be used as a line-of-sight blocker. Part 3. How maps are judged. 1. Maps will be submitted by anyone to be considered for induction to the MFN 2. Maps will be voted on by the judges for acceptance to be reviewed. A majority is needed for the map to be reviewed. 3. A map accepted for review must be playtested competitively by all judges at least twice. 4. Each judge will vote. Maps need 75% of the judges' votes of approval to be inducted into the MFN. 5. Judges may abstain from voting. Part 4. Council of Judges- 1. Judges must own the following: 1 Swarm of the Marro, 1 Fortress of the Archkyrie, 1 Marvel: the Conflict Begins, and 2 Battle for the Underdark. 2. The council of judges will include a maximum of eight (8.) judges. 3. Each judge must me voted into the council by a majority vote while there is less than the maximum number of judges. 4. Judges will maintain their positions until they: a) Are not heard from by other judges for a total of thirty-one (31) days on the Heroscapers.com website b) Abstain from voting for 3 months or for 3 consecutive maps 5. A judge may be replaced by a 100% vote of approval of the other judges. 6. Judges may not vote on their own maps; this will not count as abstaining from a map. 7. These laws may be changed by a 75% vote of agreement from the council of judges. Disclaimer- Many of these laws were used by the Battlefields of Valhalla system and were adopted into this one. I noticed you did copy and paste a lot of those
1. You say the max number of duplicates for each is 1 except BftU, which is 2. But I thought you said earlier that you could only use 1 each overall except for BftU, where you can use two overall. 2. Just wondering why Warehouse ruins can't be used. Is that from the BoV thing? I like your idea and it would be cool to be a judge, but currently I don't have two BftU. I do have a TT though, so with your permission I could use glaciers as outcroppings and proxy terrain. I should be picking up my second BftU in around a month. |

1. Its the same thing. Max of 2 BftU in a map, max of 1 of the rest in a map. I don't exactly get what you're asking.
2. Warehouse ruins give an easy way to gain height, and unbalance the map as only 1 can be used. It just favors range too much. 3. Sure. I vote to induct Bassist of Doom as a judge. (Just make sure that the aesthetics on the origional terrain look good). The OP will be updated. |

I don't know if I'll be able to be a judge, due to the fact that no one I know likes to play 500 points, BoV style games. However, I will probably spam input and help, and maybe submit some maps.
