Favored Ranged Unit
I'm searching for a suitable ranged unit for the other half of the army. I'm putting the question out to any other scapers who wish to answer: What is the favored/best ranged unit in heroscape?
PS: If needed to answer the question, the other half of the army is a dragon/greenscale army. 755 point army, four squads of Greescale Warriors and either Braxas, Zelrig, or Charos depending on how i feel/who i'm playing. Thanks Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them you're a mile away and you have their shoes. |

Re: Favored Ranged Unit
Probably better in the Competitive Armies forum, buuut....
Hex limit? GSW x4 plus a 210 point dragon leaves you with 305 points. I'd take out 80 more to wrap them in Bacon, leaving 225. So, if you like WTF, 4th or 10th x3 fills the points very well, but puts you at 27 hexes. If you don't like WTF, Stingers x3 would do some damage, but leaves an awkward 45 points. If you drop down to a 185 point dragon (or 170 for Moltenclaw, who is awesome with the GSWs) then you have a spare 250-265 points allowing Stingers x4 plus Isamu or Marcu. Still over 24 hexes, though, if that's an issue. Of course Dragon+GSWs make a heck of an army just by themselves, so you could always tack just about any other other range that you like-Aubriens, Tagawa Archers or Wyrmlings would all add some spice here. |

Re: Favored Ranged Unit
In our group, there is no hex limit. But thanks for the concern

Re: Favored Ranged Unit
Although they aren't exactly range, Phantom Knights can help you deal with those pesky ranged threats that can turn your cold-blooded warriors into lizard burger.
Building off of Killometer's assemblage: Quote:
Tourney-proven bonding squad? Check. Large/Huge asset? Check. Tourney-proven anti-range unit with magic 4 defense? Check. Special Attack/anti-rat(Nilfheim/Braxas/Zelrig)? Check. Side of bacon? Check. Sounds like a good day to tip the scales in your favor. |

Re: Favored Ranged Unit
As you say favored, as well as best, mine would have to be Syvarris. 9 range outranges everything else, perch him on height and you're golden. 4 attack, or more, with double attack, is definitly scary from that range. Sure his 2 defense, or 3 with height, is shoddy and his life is low, relative to his defense, but, he rarely fails me when I use him.
Of course, he is 100 points, which can be spent on the Krav, or even multiple squads of other ranged units. Be polite: Don't put politics or religion in your signature! --->Join HeroScape Delta today! <--- --->Post your Delta/+ Battle Reports HERE!<--- My HeroScape Debut- 3/19/2011! |

ZETACRON! He may die quite easily, but my robot obsession empowers him.

Re: Favored Ranged Unit
Personally, I advise Stingers, 4th, or 10th, as Killometer said. The Krav aren't bad, but you can only have one squad of them in your army, and with only 200-250, it would be better with multiples of common squads.

Re: Favored Ranged Unit
I always go for a combination of the Krav and 10th Reg.
Krav are dangerous at range but the 10th Reg. are even worse if you decide to engage them in melee combat. Last edited by The Deadliest Warrior : December 23rd, 2010 at 08:25 PM. 'My dog's got no nose.' "How does it smell?" 'Terrible.' |

Re: Favored Ranged Unit
It depends on the dragon.
Alongside Charos, I'd want a special attack and something that's good against opposing ranged commons. I'd lean toward one of the Majors, ideally Q9. Alongside Zelrig, I want lots of hitting power to deal with strong opposing unique figures. I'd lean towards Stingers. Alongside Braxas, I want something that can reel the cheap ranged commons in to Braxas's range. The Krav seem ideal. I'd also second the point that Phantom Knights play a similar role to a ranged figure in many armies. Braxas/Raelin/GSWx4/PKx3 sounds like very formidable army to me.
