I believe this belongs in the general forum.

Well, first off its a landmark figure; second, its a pretty large figure; third, the demographics within make for fun statistical observations. This makes for some reasonably interesting reading.

On my command, fix bayonets.

fourth...I can remember when we were taught in school that the US had a population of "just over 200 million."

Because it is a lot of people, and, as Rev mentioned, is indicative of our growth rate. I happen to consider it to be an excessively fast growth rate.

Both the immigration growth and the reproductive rates seem awfully fast to me, Bunjee. I'm no expert in the field, though, just a ZPG advocate.

ZPG is Zero Population Growth; those of us who think there are enough people already on this earth (not that you shouldn't reproduce enough to keep the population that we have).

Yeah I think the biggest part of the growth problem is coming from my generation, for example.

J&K just had a child, this is K's first child and J's 3rd.

The mother of J's 1st child has 2 other children.

The mother of J's 2nd child has 1 other child.

Also

H&J just had a child. This is H's second child as well as J's second child.

The mother of H's 1st child has 1 more child.

The J has 2 other children by two other men.

Everyone linked to these children are under 21. I won't go any deeper on my thoughts about the problems with youth and sex that stems from the 70's and 80's because this topic is about the population, but if we don't do something we're going to have more than fuel problems,

My mind is the Pink Zippo that sits on top of a pack of Camel Wides.

I could be mistaken about this but I believe I heard that the worldwide population growth has slowed so much that there's more people dying than being born. Anyone heard this?

I could have misheard.
