Okay, after a few hours, here's what I came up with.

Here is the basic outline.

I promptly forgot to decrease the size of the line, and continued with size twenty the whole way.

A little more detail added. All of this is on a different layer form the previous one.
The final drawing before the thin line. I added some to his armor.

There is the outline.

I forgot to show the step with just the outline, adn proceeded straight to the filling.
After a little while on photoshop, which I am still trying to figure out, I came up with this.
Something went wrong with the hands, but I kind of like the blurred effect.

Obviously far from your work, but I think it is pretty good for my first try. Thanks for showing my how to do this! Yet another reason to +rep you!

That's pretty good for a first try on working digitally. More value changes would make it have more depth (More lighter shades of your base colors) and a fun thing with working digitally is you can paste images into new layers so you can see what your drawing, in your case you could search for a picture of a guy holding a sword and try to match the hands.
Don't worry I'm not critisizing anything just giving pointers from what I've learned

Do you mean signing up for updates? on the right side of the screen under the search bar is where you enter your email
And if you meant register then i just fixed that, you can register on the right side bar

EDIT: I have now joined, and will begin to use my own wordpress experience to take over the site! Just kidding. I have also indexed the site in the index. Now, how on earth did you do those scars on the grut?
