Re: SF Bay Area - Draft Pool Tournament - July

I just want to note that I pitched a similar format to the folks at our Gencon prep tournament today, and the reaction was very positive. This is a really cool way to open things up and make every figure potentially viable.

Thanks Ronin (and cmgames) for directing this. I had a ton of fun! Congrats to Menchi for his win. I've posted a battle report here and will post pictures later.

Re: SF Bay Area - Draft Pool Tournament - July

Yup. Menchi finally found his game again and he beat me first round and never looked back! I still had a great time though, and I'm super glad to have gotten to play with all of you that I did. Thanks to everyone for coming out and throwing down. It was awesome.

I'll try to get up the score card info tomorrow, as well as a Battle Report of my own. I'll also upload the pics I took.

@ Dok
This is the second time NorCal has used this tournament format, and it's been a smash hit each time. I highly recommend it, because it completely alters the standard metagame, and makes each game just as much about building your army for each bout as much as it is playing it. I really hope you get the chance to give it a go.

Re: SF Bay Area - Draft Pool Tournament - July

Thanks Ronin and everyone, I had a great time!

And as a newbie, I really liked the format. It seemed to even the playing field a bit, since I didn't have to face a super synergized, preplanned juggernaught of an army each round. Also, I got to use different units from my collection each game, which is good since I'm still learning them.

I look forward to the next one!

Re: SF Bay Area - Draft Pool Tournament - July

I gotta say, this was an awesome first tournament (fun-wise, not win-wise because I lost ALOT). But even though I lost tons, I found each match equally fun because I kept learning new stuff as the games progressed. For example, I learned to never draft a card unless you read their whole card. In my match against Menchi, I wasn't fully utilizing the MacDirk warriors because I hadn't read about their Highland Fury ability.

Thanks Ronin for setting this up and I think I also forget to thank you for the booster, so thank you again! October needs to come faster!

Re: SF Bay Area - Draft Pool Tournament - July

It's not a Battle Report, but my most memorable moments from the day were:

Using Othkurik's Lurking Ambush to fly out of darkness to gain height on FresnoBob's full-strength Hydra. Rolled four skulls in 8 dice and the Hydra whiffed. Instant kill!

Getting too close to Atlaga with my full-strength Braxas. He shot the Dragon Queen with his Bolt of Witherwood and that was the end. I had Isamu left to try to mop up his remaining 5 figures. He fought valiantly, but eventually the odds came up against him.

Congrats Menchi It's about time your title is accurate again.

I wish that I could have been there the whole day-it looked like a ton of fun the short amount of time I was able to sneak in. Oh well, hopefully I'll make it in October.

the one skull I rolled on 4x4 attacks was not my proudest moment, nor was realizing halfway through game 2 that the some of the elf wizard heroes I was playing had ranged attacks!

That being said, I had a blast, and learned something new each and every game. Thanks to Ronin for putting it on!
