Heroscape figure .gif Images.

Hey, recently i have been making a few, smiley sized heroscape .gif images in my free time just for the fun of it, anyway i figured that i would share them with you guys since i think most of them turned out rather well.
Just remove the 3's from each end of the code to use them.

Tutorial.

First off, The programs that I use are: power point 2007, paint.net, unfreeze and Microsoft picture manager. In some cases you might be able to substitute a different program. (gimp is also very useful, but not necessary)

first I start by opening power point 2007, I then find a picture of the unit i want to make, (normally on heroscapers.com) and paste it onto the first slide.


Now the parts that I make the unit out of are located in the insert tab, click shapes and from here you will pick bits and pieces and put them together to form a picture that looks similar to the picture you pasted. (it dosen't have to be perfect most of the time they are to small to tell) I suggest that you make it large to begin with so its easier to work with. Now you may notice the blue box around the picture, this is in place to make sure that every single picture will be the exact same size. this is important because, if the pictures are different sizes the .gif will not be centered.


Another important thing is the ability to change the color of the shapes, right click on a shape that you want to change the color of and a drop down menu will pop up. from here you can change the main body color and the outline color, sometimes changing the outline color can be useful for emphasizing a piece. you can also rotate the pieces in the menu. After finishing a picture, i select all of the pieces (drag and box) including the blue box. right click on any segment of it and then click the save as picture function, save it as a jpeg at this point since if you save it as a .gif image it comes out grainy.

now copy the parts that you just saved onto a new blank slide. Change the placement of the pieces just a little and then save the image. essentially what you are doing is moving the pieces a little bit in the direction you want them to go each time. If it is a chopping motion or some other circular action then you might need less pictures since you can just reuse the pictures in reverse order.


when you have all the pictures that you need for your .gif made, then you open Microsoft picture manager, or really any program that you can cut the pictures with. I prefer office manager because i can cut to an exact pixel amount, and it is important to make sure every picture is the exact same size. Now cut the blue box off of each picture.


Next open paint.net, this program is not to be confused with Microsoft paint. it is a freeware program that can be downloaded from here: http://www.getpaint.net/
Use the wand in the tool bar to select the white portions of the pictures by clicking them and then remove them from the picture by pressing the delete key. the deleted areas will end up looking checked. if the wand trys to select part of your figure as well, (mostly happens when part of the figure is white or gray) then lower the tolerance bar, i normally use it at 35% tolerance.

After, removing the white sections, click the image tab and select re-size. shrink the images down to the size that you want. (most of my images are around 90 pixels high)

now select "save as" and save the image as a .gif image.


Finally after you have edited and changed all of your images to .gif format. open Unfreeze, this is a free gif making program that can be found here: http://www.whitsoftdev.com/unfreez/

drag each image in order into the box set the speed and then hit the make .gif button. you can make a certain picture last longer by putting multiples of it in the .gif, or by using gimp and editing the duration time.

And you are now finished, this probably looks overwhelming, but it really isent very hard. I like to use power point because it makes each image change easy too do but you could also use a simple paint program or even paint.net.

Possibly when i have some extra time...
Ill probably make one of the 2010 unit battle royal winner. I am also working on finishing a zombie related one, it mostly depends on how much free time from my job (and college) that i have.

I finished the zombie Gif and also an Airborne Elite that I was working on. Next thing will probably be the Unit battle royal grand champion.
