Mainly the whole "no trading 2,000 coins outside of 'market value'" thing (and to a lesser extent the addition of the Grand Exchange).

Basically it made it impossible to give people gifts or do favors for people and stuff. It just ruined a lot of the social aspects of the game for me. It was just really poor decision making and I could tell that it (and the Grand Exchange) was kind of a shark-jumping point for Runescape.
I hate the trade system too, that's what made me and everybody I know persnally quit playing. Jagex became so worried about people cheating and making realworld/in-game side profits that they made it a Communist economy.
Since I was predominantly a merchant it messed up my business. On top of that my clan could no longer have a treasury or armory because items couldn't be traded for free. I also didn't like a lot of the reforming of the Wilderness to make sure people weren't using it to transfer items. It messed up Clan Warfare and PKing.
The cheaters didn't mess up the economy and such as much as the changes that they made. If I where them I would have ignored the cheaters and just made sure everybody else was having fun. I know I no longer am.

Heh, that would take a while. I can't remember exactly and I don't feel like checking, but I think I have about a mil sitting in my bank, about 2 or 3 mil in items (might even be less. When I quit I probably had about 5 or 6 mil worth of items, but things like the abyssal whip continually plummeting in price really lowers that), and I had about 10 mil invested in my house/construction level (which was almost 70 I believe).

Funniest part is, I don't even remember how I got that much. Some of it would have been using alchemy on battlestaves (you raised like 5 skills and got like 1500 gold per battlestave if you did everything from scratch like I did), some of it was probably collecting and selling vials from the general store in one of the towns, and I think I might have made some money making/selling planks.

I think pretty much everything you mentioned came after I stopped playing.
I stopped before it weht 3d, heh.

Yup. So many little kids were stupid enough to get scammed that they all went crying to Jagex. Apparently, Jagex felt that it was better to have those kids be members than for their older, wiser (as in, not stupid enough to fall for a scam) audience to be play the game and be members.

I mean, seriously, if you are getting scammed you probably aren't even old enough to be playing the game. Funnily enough, it is pretty obvious that a great deal of their demographic is the 13-and-unders who, according to Jagex, shouldn't be playing.

So, Jagex listens to all the crybabies and makes the game scam-proof and friend-proof at the same time. Older audience who prefers organization (like the clan stuff you mentioned) and throwing parties and giving items and crap gets the shaft because the game just got pretty close to ruined.

So, so frustrating. There are so many options that would have been better (how about showing two or three warnings when you are about to make an "unfair" trade rather than disallowing them altogether?!), that it made me realize just how stupid Jagex is.

Re: Runescape

I totally agree. Those trade restrictions were horrible. It wasn't just that, the game seemed limiting. The world wasn't big enough. The World of Warcraft universe was Enormous! It spoiled me for all smaller scale games, and again; I just plain got tired of it. I did almost everything worth doing. The fact that my friends quit also affected me.

Re: Runescape

Runescape was my drug of choice at one point, it had the best pvp of anything I had or have played, in the sense you were actually risking weeks/months of work everytime you were out there and there was very little handholding when you were out in the wilderness(pking was changed shortly after I quit). The economy was interesting( I quit shortly before the limitations ect.). Lastly the good quests were the best I have played in my few mmo experiences, I can recall by name, only desert treasure, but the hard ones were actually.. well, quests from what I remember.

Since then I played WoW for awhile but found it much worse than Runescape even though I understood it should have been more enjoyable. For me, the pvp in WoW was terribly unintresting, quests were interesting at first and were better than grinding to reach 80, but ultimately were a borefest once I was 80 and after realizing they were basically the same redundant thing. Dalies were boring and artificial, I was in a big guild and rank 3 in gear and it was stupid I had to keep doing the awful dalies every day to maintain that status/keep up without falling behind regardless of my skill.

However WoW does dominate Runescape in the PVE department, Runescape lacked dungeons really, and engame monsters with mediocre at best, and so much worse than WoW's raids. Though despite this, eventually raiding, being the only impressive thing in WoW, became more of a job than fun.

Heck, I was addicted to Runescape bad when I was younger, and if I hadn't been hacked horribly I don't know how long I would have played, even though it ended up crashing and burning with the pking and trading limitation changes. Still for me, it was the first and best MMO.

I just logged onto my Runescape account too! Same username as my 'scapers account. What's your username? I really like the new Dungeoneering skill they added in. Free trade and the wilderness is back, also.

I got back into the game last May, and just this past month I've found a few friends that play too. I've really been enjoying the new changes as well as the Old School servers.
