Bad news indeed! But then, the regular SW figures fit nicely on the HS terrain. And our customs folks have already created them all in handy HS versions! So like the C3G work on superheroes, its really all there for you. Refuse to be the pawn of Corporate America! Go custom...

I don't want to disparage the custom makers here, because they do a great job (I ahev just some of that material). My title should have referred to an "official" SW HS set.

I do enjoy being a pawn of corporate America.

Here is the link to the announcement: http://community.wizards.com/go/thre...t_announcement

Here is the announcement text:

After a lengthy evaluation, Wizards of the Coast has decided not to renew the Star Wars license with Lucasfilm. We’ve had a long and fantastic run, but with the economic downturn, we have made the tough decision to discontinue our Star Wars lines.

The license officially ends in May this year, with WotC product available through August. In the meantime, we have awesome new products still coming your way. This week, we released The Dark Times minis and Galaxy of Intrigue RPG. We’ll have more coming with Masters of the Force minis in April, which will have some of your most favorite characters along with rare creatures from the Dejarik Holochess game that have never appeared in our game. We’ll also release The Unknown Regions RPG in April, which includes entirely new planets and mini-adventures for each world.

We are finishing the line with a bang so look for special programs at your local game store to stock up on favorite sets before they go into the vault. We will continue to support our Star Wars forums on the Wizards Community site so you can reach out and chat with us and other fans.

While I know the news is disappointing, we wanted to make this announcement as soon as possible and thank you for being such great fans. It’s been a fantastic ride with the Star Wars community and working with Lucasfilm. We hope you enjoy the next several months of great products. You never know when we may circle back again!

Re: Star Wars HS Dream is over.

This doesn't hit me too hard. For some reason, Star Wars doesn't seem to fit as appropriately into HS as Marvel or DnD. I can't say why, since I have no problem with the other two HS licenses. Something about the thought of Vader on a hex just makes me uncomfortable. Maybe I just know the Star Wars characters better, but it would feel like "playing Star Wars" instead of playing HS.

That's just my opinion. Sorry about your Dream. May it rest in peace.

Same. Marvel > DC scape, LOTR > Star Wars scape, but that's just which I like a lot more out of the pairs. DC does fit right in with Marvel, LOTR would really fit but it wouldn't put as new as a flavor as D&D has/will, Star Wars just doesn't fit for me. Aside from super heroes, maybe it's just Star Wars is primarily sci-fi and completely lacks both fantasy (edit: some stuff could be considered fantasy, but no elves, dragons, etc.) and historical. LOTR has plenty of fantasy and also has some fictional historical, but completely lacks sci-fi. D&D is similar - mainly fantasy, has stuff that's fiction but can count as historical - but it doesn't lack sci-fi as much (it has some pretty sweet Vydar/Aquilla (Aquilla-color wheel) sci-fi if you ask me). D&D was a nice choice while keeping an open mind.

Re: Star Wars HS Dream is over.

It wouldn't surprise me if Lucas shopped the Mini's around. They seem to be successful. WoTC isn't giving up on mini's as they have a new series coming out. It seems to me they just didn't want to pay Lucas the royalties any more; which is just a business move. I could see Privateer Press of Fantasy Flight Games pick the SW mini's up.

I will tell you why...because a good part of the Star Wars story has to do with the Empire and the Republic fighting air battles.
