What happens when your DW is engaged by one Knight, and then your Zettians get surrounded?

Re: Competitive Unit Congress

Also remember Torin cannot use his ranged counter-strike with DW 8000 and 9000 as they are large. I would rather add Raelin and a squad of rats instead of Torin every time.

Then how about this other idea I had for an alternate to straight bonding:
Spoiler Alert!

EDIT: Yea, the above is a little "out-of-the-box" and not simple enough for CUC. I forget this is supposed to be for tournament use (not that hardly anyone allows them yet) so simple is better. I went against my own judgement as one of the reasons i didn't want to make zettians common is because of being to different for tournament use.

DEATHWALKER STRATEGIC BONDING
"Before taking a turn with the Zettian Guards, you may first take a turn with any Deathwalker Hero you control. Also, when revealing a numbered order marker on the Zettian Guards's Army Card, you may also reveal an "X" order marker that is on a Deathwalker Hero Army Card you control to take an additional turn with that figure.
Optional clause: If you take a turn with any Deathwalker Hero you control, you may not attack with the Zettian Guards this turn.

Basically it gives bonding PLUS like Ornak you can take a turn with two Deathwalkers once per round. You could also change out "Deathwalker Hero you control" with "Soulborg Hero you control who follows Utgar" to allow for Warden 816 as well.

Also remember Torin cannot use his ranged counter-strike with DW 8000 and 9000 as they are large. I would rather add Raelin and a squad of rats instead of Torin every time.
That's an interesting idea, but more "customy" than we'd like to see with the CUC. Using existing (or at least familiar) abilities is more the focus. "Keep it simple" is part of the motto around here.

But, so is thinking outside the box, so thanks for contributing the idea.

If you are stupid enough to not have your Zettians in a line in front of Deathwalker, you deserve to sit for 3 hours rolling 7/9 dice against the Knights.

It's still effective.

Re: Competitive Unit Congress

I'm curious: is it within the scope of this project to make a unit less competitive? You know, like reducing Raelin's defense boost from +2 to +1, or making Deathreavers a 3-figure squad, or giving Q9 6 defense instead of 7. Or is boosting the competitiveness of some units while reducing the competitiveness of others too much of a moving target?

Re: Competitive Unit Congress

They already modded deathreavers to be 55 points so YES they can make units less competitive. I could see making raelin either only give +1 defense or cost more, and Q9 have less defense or more cost. However, I think their first priority is making lower ranked units better, as more tournaments would be more likely to allow suped-up versions of weak units then force everyone to play less good versions of commonly played units. Just my FWIW as I am not a part of the group and have already got in too much trouble for making comments that do not align with the group.

EDIT: See Dignan's comment below.

The main focus of this group is to boost the figures on the lower end of the spectrum. The only figure we went after to reduce competitiveness were Deathreavers. Many of the members of the CUC (myself included) feel that they represent the most "overpowered" squad with regards to tournament play.

Obivously, you could argue that Raelin and Q9 are right there as well, but we've arbitrarily decided they didn't need the nerf quite as bad as the reavers did. For the foreseeable future of this project, we'll stick to tweaking the weak units.

Re: Competitive Unit Congress

Why do Reavers need to be dumbed down? Seems to me that there's a lot of ways to kill them easily, such as Q10, Kaemon, Braxas, and anyone else with a special ability or D20 attack.

Look to the last 5 GenCon championships to see which units were in there. Not many rats? Then they're not A-listers.

Stick to making the Dunds and Sudemas of the world useful, that's my 2 cents. And for the record, I like what you guys are up to, and I like how you're doing it.

Like I said, it's completely arbitrary. Us Texans hate rats and many of the testers and members of this project are Texans. Personally, I feel that they are just a cheap and overpowered unit. Raelin and Q9 are strong, but rats just **** me off.

It's just personal opinion and I have very little to justify the stance.

According to dok's Gencon 2010 Champions battle report, the top two armies (his and Mantrainchoochoo's) both used rats.

Re: Competitive Unit Congress

2010 was one year, though.

I hate rats too, FWIW, but I don't think they're overpowered. Well, unless R˙chean plays them with Nikitas and Krav. Then they're cheap.
