Re: WotC "promised" classic waves of HS in the future.

As far as it stands, WOTC hasn't really done much of what we wanted them to. They've announced more of what they wanted, even when the speculation on DnD'scape wasn't great in the first place. From everything I've seen since I've been on here, there hasn't been much (if any, but I don't want to say none becaue I haven't read every thread since I've been on) of any WOTC staff members saying anything on here. I don't hold out much hope. Hasbro seemed to get lazy later on, and WOTC is most likely going to remain ignorant.

I earnestly hope they prove me wrong.

you might want to look into a concept called "sharing". let your "newbie" friends use some of your older units if they want to, jeez.
I'm sure that's a fine solution for casual play and an absolutely awful suggestion for tournaments. I'm sure you'd be fine if you wouldn't have been able to buy about half of the collection you have if there were friends that would loan you a few of those figures once in a while.

Jeez yourself!

I don't know man.

I borrowed 6 squads of 4th mass for my first tournament from various friends, and let someone else borrow 2 squads of stingers for that same tournament... which he used to win it.

I have a friend who has only purchased 2 packs of heroscape, but has won at least 150 bucks worth of stuff from tournaments. I let him borrow mine.

Just last Saturday (the 26th), I borrowed my entire tournament army except for the Raelin I brought. I talked it out in advance, but we've got PM boxes and phones for a reason.

At General Wars at GenCon, I realized that I totally forgot my cards for my army in my hotel room. The guy sitting right next to me (mantrainchoochoo) happened to have them with him and didn't hesitate to let me borrow them for the tourney.

Guess it all depends on how you define "friends" and whether you have any ...

Personally, I'd like to see WOTC release the "sand" set they considered back when they got the HS line. That would be great in my book...

Something like that would be awesome. I've long been waiting for a desert terrain package with those rocks (glacier repaints or not) and then maybe some quicksand. Hopefully they start looking back at that.

Re: WotC "promised" classic waves of HS in the future.

D&D Scape will be "Classic" in that anything published by WOTC becomes Official and is not Custom. However, they are clearly taking things in a new direction. We don't have enough information yet on how they will do that to say very much. Since they own licenses in other genres as well, let's hope they add cool fantasy stuff with the coming year's product, and then eventually balance things out with stuff that is other than Fantasy/"D&D."

Re: WotC "promised" classic waves of HS in the future.

I think that releasing terrain without figures is a bad idea. More people are interested in figures than terrain generally.

Not me! I love terrain!

They need to make small expansions that are themed to each general. That would be pretty sweet, IMO.

I vote this guy new CEO of WotC!

However, if all we're going to see is DnD minis and repainted Scape figs, I probably will be buying less and less of anything that doesn't involv new terrain to incorporate into my maps. I'm sure WOTC wouldn't try to pull this off on us, but if they did, I think it would go down badly. I don't think they'll be dumb enough to do that to us, but you never know. Hopefully they pay attention to what we want, not what they think we might like, or worse, just doing whatever the heck they want.

They need to let the DnD theme go, or at leastnot plan so much for it, withou giving us something that we for sure want. Giving us OFFICIAL reassuranceof at least one new wave of "classic" figures past Wave 10 would be smart on their part. The best would be a third classic master set, with the scale of RotV (in terms of figure AND terrain--so, not a themed set like SotM). Giving us units scattered around like the units of RotV were (a little bit of everything again, only with new figures). Allwoing us another large selection of terrain (not even necesarily new terrain, but maybe some different proportions of older terrain) would be god as well. Maybe a Master Set that consisits of a little less grass and rock terrain that RotV, but much more sand, with some road thrown in as well? Instead of ruins, maybe some villag wals that aren't ruined? That would be nice.

New small terrain packages would be excellent for them to start to work on as well, and there's plenty of option for these. Make a small desert set, with flat quicksand tiles instead of water or something. Make a set that includes ruins pieces that work with the ruins the have from RotV--more ruins like those open up a lot of new options for mapmaker,s and the games played on those maps. Another option would be one or two terrain packages that would have village piecs i it. Having one would be cool, but having two sets with different kinds of pieces in it would be really neat. Buying multiples and making an actual town map, that's not already ruined, would be the bomb.

Sorry to hijack this and rant about my own ideas. All I'm trying to say is, WOTC had better not give up on the classic ideas. Thee's literally tons of things that they could do with it! With a plethora of paths to take, WOTC should definitely not count Classic out yet--if they're smart.

What they need to do is not make any more repaints. They need to reprint waves, and I would say reprinting one wave after every (or every other) new wave would be acceptable.

I don't know about that. I don't see a whole lot of spiders, yeti or trolls being used in our tournaments. But I do see Trees, Swamp/Jungle and Arctic Mountains being popular...
