WotC "promised" classic waves of HS in the future.

I just received an email from Sandra at HouseMouseGames.com in which she claims that, "WotC has also promised that “classic” HeroScape WAVES will continue to be produced."

This is news to me. Sandra can you confirm your source of information or does anyone else have information on this. Of course nothing about that statement suggests that they will be developing any new classic Scape, just that they will continue to produce classic Scape which could mean nothing more than reprinting old waves. That being said this is still the first I've heard of a confirmation from WotC that they will still be doing that.

I have included the complete email from Sandra below. Near the end of the email Sandra clearly implies that she expects to receive news in the near future of new classic scape so here's hoping.

WAVE 10 SPECIAL RELEASE--

VALKRILL’S GAMBIT

This set includes:
·CHAMPIONS OF RENOWN (Sir Hawthorne, Nerak and the SwogRider, and Elite Onyx Vipers) For all of you who have been unable to locate these previously-released EXCLUSIVE figures, here’s your chance to pick up three exclusive sets.
Sir Hawthorne’s blade cuts deep. But when the battle has ended, who’s back will bear the wound? Nerak and his Glacial Swog stalk the frozen battlefields of the icy north. His presence is inspiring, and his guttural commands keep every grut sharp and focused. Their writhing forms seethe forward with inhuman speed. The arrows of their enemies sail by them, always missing. They are legend. They are the Elite Onyx Vipers. This pack includes 5 pre-painted figures and 2 cards.
·WARRIORS OF FELDSPAR (Granite Warriors and Quasatch Hunters) The Granite Guardians emerge from the mountainsides of Feldspar to punish trespassers by hurling great rocks with crushing force. The Quasatch Hunters fight with a feral rage when their forest home is threatened by outsiders. Moving amongst the trees like a blur, they ambush their enemies and deliver a barrage of savage blows

·SOULBORGS (previously released in WAVE 5)
Surround Your Enemy With Soulborg Power! Their power-enhancing bonding abilities make these warriors a commanding force on the battlefield. Deathstalkers possess Maul power, which can inflict triple the damage and nullify the enemy's defense. With their Homing Device, Blastatrons empower their brothers-in-arms with extra moves and attack strength. Could this be the edge you've been looking for?
·WARRIORS and SOULBORGS (previously released in WAVE 5) Power Your Army with Warriors & Soulborgs! Warriors of Ashra: Their powers of defensive agility serve these tricky elven warriors well in battle. When attached, they react swiftly and often escape injury. Deathreavers: These Soulborgs travel quickly, defend well in battle, and never take engagement hits. When attacked, they scatter up to 4 spaces, making these robotic rodents difficult to pursue.

These sets are available now for pre-order. The expected release date is November 10.

Order a full set of WAVE 10 and receive 10 card protectors for free! Just type FREE CARD PROTECTORS in the COMMENTS section of your order.

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS-THEMED MASTER SET expected JANUARY, 2010.

A new master set has been announced for Heroscape. It is fully compatible with standard Heroscape but it has the D&D theme attached to it. There will be an official campaign in the set as well as some new rules and new glyphs.

This set has been fully play-tested by all of the original HeroScape play-testers and promises some good new Heroscape adventures.

The D&D theme brings something to the table that many Heroscapers have tried to incorporate into the game for a long time - A dungeon crawl experience.

The figures will be selected from the current Dungeons and Dragons miniatures, so there should be few delays in bringing additional WAVES to market quickly in 2010.

We will have these sets available for pre-order by early December.

In addition to the DUNGEONS and DRAGONS-themed WAVES, WotC will continue to produce “classic” (i.e. non-D&D-themed) WAVES. We will send you an updated newsletter when we have additional information on any of these new releases.

HS CODEX ISSUE #11 is now available for download:www.HSCodex.com

Continue to produce "Classic" waves could just as easily mean re-prints of older waves. I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah I wouldn't enjoy a continued series of "special waves".

For the time being and what they had to work with, Special Collection 10 is awesome (assuming they kept the old cards the exact same). But I think of it as an alternative to reprinting Wave 5 and not how to reprint future things from now on. I could maybe see one more special collection, and that would only be rereleasing the other two promos and I guess 3/4 of a wave where one pack is not in need. Personally I liked how they were rereleasing things but like I said Special Collection 10 is nice and they did a good job with what they had to work with.

The D&D master set I look forward to too. I think the waves will be of satisfaction as well.

I haven't been on here so frequently in a few months so I don't want to bring some arguement back again. But I want to share a thought that would probably be better said earlier: I think everyone on here would rather have a 100% classic scape third master set and waves to follow, and I think possibly some changes on wave 10. But these were WotC decisions and truth, Grungebob, theGuru, and others got to make them. They made them so that we would like them and they'd still fit with the awesome Heroscape feel. Wave 10 and the D&D stuff could have been a lot worse. Whenever I felt disappointed with it I thought, well, look at how well it came out judging what they had to work with and decision to follow.

Edit: a small Wave 7 rerelease? Or maybe just restock? Cool either way, I need another pack of each of common Wave 7 pack.

Re: WotC "promised" classic waves of HS in the future.

The only way Heroscape will continue to thrive is by continuing to get new players. This won't be attractive if many of the figures already released are unavailable to new players. It just isn't any fun to play against people who have figures you can't get. Even though I have almost all of the figures, I would welcome reprint of all of the sets to keep them available for newbies.

Well, don't most miniatures games never reprint the old stuff?

Who said they wouldn't welcome them? What folks like Uprising are fearing is that the ONLY classic scape we will see from this point forward are reprints...and that everything new we get will be reworked D&D mini figs and/or repainted Scape figs....BIG DIFFERENCE.

Isn't Heroscape a bit unique in the miniatures community, as the number of miniatures is actually fairly small? Unlike games like Warhammer where there are new codex and figures coming out all of the time, HS is more of an expandable game than collectable. You see expansions for other games on the shelves (see Alhambra, Arkham Horror, etc) all the time.

I think that because HS bridges the gap between boardgame and tabletop game, and the limited expansions released, means that there is little reason for them not to continue to re-release old waves.

I agree with a previous poster who said the only way to keep the game alive is to keep getting new players into the games. The only way to do that is to make the game more available.

And people are going to get into a game if nothing NEW is made for it?

Re: WotC "promised" classic waves of HS in the future.

I'm not a big DnD fan, and so I'm not super excited about the new DnD sets. However, I'm not going to make the call until the new set actualy comes out.

However, if all we're going to see is DnD minis and repainted Scape figs, I probably will be buying less and less of anything that doesn't involv new terrain to incorporate into my maps. I'm sure WOTC wouldn't try to pull this off on us, but if they did, I think it would go down badly. I don't think they'll be dumb enough to do that to us, but you never know. Hopefully they pay attention to what we want, not what they think we might like, or worse, just doing whatever the heck they want.

They need to let the DnD theme go, or at leastnot plan so much for it, withou giving us something that we for sure want. Giving us OFFICIAL reassuranceof at least one new wave of "classic" figures past Wave 10 would be smart on their part. The best would be a third classic master set, with the scale of RotV (in terms of figure AND terrain--so, not a themed set like SotM). Giving us units scattered around like the units of RotV were (a little bit of everything again, only with new figures). Allwoing us another large selection of terrain (not even necesarily new terrain, but maybe some different proportions of older terrain) would be god as well. Maybe a Master Set that consisits of a little less grass and rock terrain that RotV, but much more sand, with some road thrown in as well? Instead of ruins, maybe some villag wals that aren't ruined? That would be nice.

New small terrain packages would be excellent for them to start to work on as well, and there's plenty of option for these. Make a small desert set, with flat quicksand tiles instead of water or something. Make a set that includes ruins pieces that work with the ruins the have from RotV--more ruins like those open up a lot of new options for mapmaker,s and the games played on those maps. Another option would be one or two terrain packages that would have village piecs i it. Having one would be cool, but having two sets with different kinds of pieces in it would be really neat. Buying multiples and making an actual town map, that's not already ruined, would be the bomb.

Sorry to hijack this and rant about my own ideas. All I'm trying to say is, WOTC had better not give up on the classic ideas. Thee's literally tons of things that they could do with it! With a plethora of paths to take, WOTC should definitely not count Classic out yet--if they're smart.

What they need to do is not make any more repaints. They need to reprint waves, and I would say reprinting one wave after every (or every other) new wave would be acceptable.

But for new players everything is new. So if newly-produced products are being released, the game won't be taken for dead.
