Re: Tree Town Open V

I would also like to thank Jormi as I could not pull off the TTO without him. Anyone who has ever been to a TTO knows he is one busy guy yet does his TD duties as well as other duties in a smooth and looks almost effortless mannor (even though most of us know a lot is happening the day of the tourney). My job is basically over once the tourney starts and he takes over and has done a great job every year managing what ever numbers we throw at him.

One group who had not been thanked is all the people who traveled to little Forest City, Iowa to play this game at the TREE TOWN OPEN. Most of you didn't know it, but the Tree Town Open was the biggest thing happening in town that weekend .

Anyway I was delighted to see so many folks here it makes it all worth the effort to organize this event ( which has turned into and helped start NHSD ). I was very happy with the attendence...I know 70 some pre-registered ....however I typically figure and can count on 20%-25% of those not showing up. So in the closing minutes of registration and I had to go out to the Heroscape Van to bring more maps in I was excited. Then I started looking at the prize table but we had enough to cover that as well , also good. Then I had fun sitting back playing 6 rounds of my favorite game.

Anyway all you who come to the Tree Town Open made it even a better day for me. I would have a good fun day with the 48-52 people I thought we might end up or what ever the number would end up being .... but we hit 61 ( one more than our TTO III record of 60 ) That was icing on the cake for me THANK YOU all for that.

Oh, and I forgot to mention. If I accidentally wrecked anyone's figures when I whacked them with my back-pack, P.M me and I'll try and get a replacement.

Re: Tree Town Open V

Codeman, I played on the small lava map. My opponent played Warriors of Ashra, Krav, Nilfheim, and (I think) Isamu and Otonashi. I played Stingers, Rats, Q9 and Otonashi

One end of the map had a walk around a hex of molten lava - kind of looks like the tip of a key. The glyph of Brandar was here. The other end had a +1 Defense if I remember correctly.

I lost initiative, so my opponent got both glyphs. He came across the lava field and attacked some stingers. At the end of the round he had 2 WOA on lava - the one in his start zone died.

There was no real way to go around the ends of the map with the glyph placement as any figure occupying a glyph was instantly engaged. My opponent did not risk disengagement and didn't attack my rats. My rat eventually grabed the Defense glyph from him after a stinger shot the WOA on the glyph, but there was no way past the next WOA without crossing the lava. So the only way to engage anyone else was to go over the lava.

The bulk of the battle was between his Nilfheim and my Q9. Nilf was on height (lava). After several successful defense rolls, both figures had some damage with Nilf down to one life. Nilf fought the 3rd round and died to lava damage as there was no way for Nilf to get off the lava without leaving engagement.

Overall I think my opponent lost 3 WOA to lava damage and Nilfheim. I was able to avoid the need to roll for lava damage.

The best strategy for the map might be to lose initiative in the first round.

Welcome to the boards...... I'm glad you checked the site. I have not got to try Root Jack but if Waldorf gets it in or the game store in the Twin Cities, I will certainly give it a try.

I'm not sure about the game store in Rochester MN. I have not been up there for a while, but I will make sure I bring a flyer when I go. I also plan to get a couple flyers to both game stores in Mason City, Iowa.

Thank you again for your support of the Tree Town Open. The Root Jack offered some diversity to the prize table.
