SPAM! what can we do about it?

AAAGH!

Heya Admins!

I know you are aware of spam that we get from some spam bots or low paid shills. Is there anything we can do about this epedemic? I'm sorta curiious from an academic standpoint of what other boards do about it.

It seems the current approach is Wack-a-mole, in which an admin hits spammers with a hammer whenever they pop-up. Its just that there seems to be more and more spammers...

I just want to know whats going on to combat this plague of the internet, if anything can be done.

Dang it, Hahn! That sounds good....

Thanks for being concerned about this site, CornPuff. We do take spam seriously and take steps to minimize how much gets through but you can't stop it all. We do not allow guests to post which helps. When an account posts spam, the offending account is immediately banned and the thread is deleted. We also have other ways of banning an account. Any ideas for dealing with this issue (and any other issues) are greatly appreciated but place them in the Site Improvement thread linked below:

Thanks,
Newb.

What can you do about spam?

Start a thread about spam problems and watch it gravitate to that thread.

Problem solved.

Kumiko is not impressed with your sculpt, either.

Wack-a-mole it is! I don't know what else to do as of now. I haven't really noticed it being a problem here, yet I haven't really been here much lately either. If you see a spammer, report it here. I will keep a watch on this thread.

Well, I would anyway...I work at Hormel. It gets real old when you work around it.
