Jotun Rampage (aka Jotun Smash) report...
After playing a game on a modified RichardD's King of the Hill map (we added trees and put glaciers in the middle of the map instead of the hex tower), we decided to try a scenario we were joking about as a friend's Jotun was pummeling my guys to death during the game.
We picked 4 Jotun's (900 points) and started them in the middle. The three of use then drafted 300 points each and would work together stopping the Jotun rampage: Standard HS rules applied except we rolled initative for the Jotun team and when it was their turn we randomize which Jotun would go by rolling a die. When the Jotun activated it would move toward the nearest enemy or, if engaged already, position itself for maximum carnage (they would never do anything to cause harm to themselves like leave engagement.) It turned out fun but too easy to kill them since we got to activate way too many times before they could go. The armies were as follows: Army M: Alastair MacDirk MacDirk Warriors (x2) Dumutef Guard Army R: DW7K Syvarris Agent Carr Army T: DED Theracus Q9 The highlight was the MacDirk Warriors, who were pumped to maximum from Alastair, taking down two of the Jotuns. Army R dropped a Jotun from range since DW7K got pummeled before he could detonate. Army T filled the fourth Jotun full of lead from the Queglix Gun. ![]() ![]() In the second game, we decided to randomly activate a Jotun after each player's turn. The only restriction was a specific Jotun could not activate twice in a row unless there were no other Jotuns on the board. We used the same armies as the first game. Highlights were DW7K detonated with a 20 killing Jotun outright (Army R was dancing for joy after that roll while we looked in amazement...since 2 minutes before that Army R was having Morale issues about being able to survive... Start of the second game: ![]() The games were a blast but we will probably go with less points for the players next time maybe 250 instead of 300. Also the map was very cool and was nice since we weren't sure who was going to make it and it could accomodate any number of players up to 6. Nice job on the design, RichardD! Newb. |

Wow! This seemed to be VERY fun games and a good way to learn how to beat Jotun also!

Great thread! An interesting scenario would be to have a player playing the Jotun army, with the Jotuns being "common" (i.e., any one can be activated by the player). You could even throw in a few Dumutefs to run interference and engage the enemy. If this is too powerful for the defender, try bumping the armies to 325 or so.

LilNewbie, did each jotun have to against the army that they were pointed towards at the begenning of the game, or could they double-team an army?
P.S. Awesome battle report. Liked the pics.

Thanks. The Jotuns had to move toward the nearest enemy they could see (using 360 vision). The army with the McDirks did get double teamed at first since the two jotuns were nearest that army.
We discussed having one person run the Jotun's and if we would have had a fourth probably would have done that scenario. The problem is with one army against many, the number of activations the multiple armies get becomes a huge factor in the outcome of the game. I think allowing the single army an activation after each other army activation evens it out a bit. The other rule that works well (and gives a little balance) is that a Jotun could not be activated twice in a row. Also the other armies could not draft Jotun which seems pretty obvious but we declared that from the beginning as a precaution. It was a fun scenario and will probably do something like it again. Still working on a balanced point value for the combined armies though. Newb. |
