Re: Clear Lava Tiles!
Nice job, Izner! I like to dream that someday I'll be as ambitious as you are with your lava customs.

Re: Clear Lava Tiles!
Neat stuff, I have zero experience with mold making/resin etc. I was just curious how hard it would be to add swirls/multiple colors to a mold like that. Is it even possible?

Perhaps if i added the dye at the absolute last minute, or even after i poured it into the mold... again, I'd just have to watch out for bubbles... |

Re: Clear Lava Tiles!
Much coolness!
As is, I tink the darker ones are nicer, But I'd be interested to see the more transparent ones done as a full-thickness terrain piece (w/ the embossed top), then washed, top painted, & perhaps "charcoal flocked" as several other (non-transparent) custom lava tiles have been done here. ....then underlight 'em Vegetables aren't food. Vegetables are what food eats. |

Talyn did it, but I'm not quite sure how... If I could figure out how to do it, I'd most certainly give it a try.On a side note, if I were to offer these tiles in sets of 11 (equivalent to one Volcarren Wasteland pack), would anyone be willing to trade gen con figures for it? I'm never gonna make it to a gen con, but I'd kinda like a Skahen, Win Chiu Woo, etc. One gen con fig would get u 11 of these things. Maybe 22 for Hawthorne or Nerak... |

Re: Clear Lava Tiles!
Nice work by the way, however this begs the question of whether there is a fluorescent green paint. To make radioactive titles of course (if you were wondering).
Now if that were possible i can see quite a few scenarios coming up regarding some fallout characters people were talking about in another thread. |

2-Love the tiles! Without dark, there is no light. Without bad HScape figs, there are no good ones. Dund is important, therefore |

I could get 'em, if people were interested in trading me something for a set of tiles. The orange dye is incredible to look at. It's liquid neon. Its actually even more brilliant then those tiles. If I had used more of it, going for a totally solid color, it would have been almost shocking. I'll bet I could get a pretty good radioactive chartreuse. |

Fantastic job with the tiles. I truly do envy you. Tell me, can the transeparent moltan lava tiles be made verticaly into moltan lava pilars? If so, could objects be placed in the silicon batch before it hardens?

As for putting something in the resin... it should be doable! You would want to place the object in the mold first, and pour the resin around it for best results. Pouring the resin and then introducing the object could lead to a lot of bubbles... and the resin solidifies fairly quickly. The other thing to keep in mind is that the resin gets REALLY hot, especially in larger quantities. See that big orange block in my photos? It was so hot it actually warped the plastic cup I was mixing in. It was too hot to touch. So whatever you put in the resin has to be able to withstand that. I'm guessing you're thinking a heroscape figure. My guess is that most figures would be fine. Perhaps some damage to the paint or stickers, at most. I made a resin casting of my hand once, that incorporated some wire contacts and a module containing some LEDs. Taking hold of the hand bridged the contacts and illuminated it. So electronics and such aren't effected by the resin. Could make some interesting glow effects with a few hidden watch batteries and some encased LEDs. Sorry, this is a little long winded, but I hope it helps! |
