Maryland Post Tourny Thread

All I can say is WOW. This event was huge. We had 25 players in the tourny and could of had more if we had the space. We were packed in like sardines, but a great time was had by all. (I hope). After complaining about the 8 player glass ceiling for my last 3 events, this one destroyed it.
I apoligize about our lack of space, but Rennissance games was not expecting a turnout of that level so only allocated us a finite amount of room. To be honest, I wasn't expecting a turnout quite so huge either. I had to cut the tourny a round short as well, due to, again, not expecting a huge turnout, and not really being prepared well enough to get folks moved from round to round, so we ran into a time crunch. I'll know better next time.
Anyhow, I had a blast and got to play four rounds of great games of scape.

Congrats to Spidysox on the tourny win. Also special mention to Tomyumgai and his son. Neither had ever been to a tourny before, in fact neither had ever played anyone but each other. Tomyumgai finished 2-2 in 13th place, very respectable. His son was 4th at 3-1, awesome!
Thanks to everyone for making this my largest tourny ever!

My battles were very interesting. I managed to chomp a full health Cyprien in my opening game against Red sox 1. That probably sealed his fate. My 2nd round match against Copperpot featured an epic 4 round throwdown between my Tor-kul-na and his Brunak, with the large marro winning out in the end and propelling me to victory. Round 3 saw me run into Civil war dude's wall of stingers and be systematically destroyed. Round 4, I managed to kill Jackall's Cyprien, only to see the big guy, and my hopes of victory, gunned down by Marro warriors.

All in all a great day. Looking forward to the next one!

Anyway, I placed 9th, going 2-2 with my previously mentioned army. I placed top of the 2-2, which slightly surprises me since I only killed 1575 points, but oh well. I had great cames against Civil war dude, the Sleeper, and both Tomyumgai and his son. I might write a battle report tomorrow or later, since I tend to remember most points of a battle for about a week after it happens, assuming I don't play too many other games in between.

Oh yeah, and that store was really nice. The space was a bit of an issue, but the venue was still really nice. I loved all of the things they had to offer, and I even took home a hot wire cutter. I can't wait to test that baby out!

Wow, I am just jumping all over the place in this post, huh? I guess that is what happens when you get really tired and try to make yourself seem smart by using big words.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Aerindane, please post something about the computer work so I can rep you for it! You really helped this event work, so I think we'd all like to say thank you.

First match against Tomyumgai on Embattled Fen (Opponent army: 2 knights, 2 4th mass, Alastair, Gilbert, and something else)

I had playtested a lot against knights, so I knew this would be a fairly even match. I sent my rats to clog both roads, and it worked perfectly. The 4th couldn't fire upon the nearing orcs, and the knights couldn't charge anyone. Once my orcs were in position, my rats scattered away and grimnack did his thing. He chomped Gilbert a few turns in, and his aura let my kill a ton of knights. On the other side with ornak I kept on rolling two skulls and a symbol. My dice worked well with me, and I had a great strategy for that particular map.
The match was very fun though, sense tomyumgai was a really nice person. It must be hard to only play against your son and then go to your first tournament. I know the feeling, having only played my friends until July, but at least I'd played two different people. Both you and your son did great Tomy, I hope to see you at the next Maryland-Pennsylvania-New Jersey event.

Second match against Civil war Dude on Mole hills (his army: 5 stingers, MW, cyprien)
Most of my playtesting was on that very map, and I found out something very sad about it. While I love the map, the map doesn't love my army. I never won a game on it in playtesting, and I didn't here either. Not to mention 5 stingers is just cruel. I actually put up a great fight, as I was able to kill one or two stingers every turn. I killed 350, and I still had some honor.

Third match against The Sleeper on Turret Rocks (his army was like 5 zombies, cyprien, and the MW)
I was a little worried about the Zombies, but I knew the map favored my army...from one side. I quickly made sure I was on the side of the board that would benefit my army most, and set to work. My rats clogged the plateau, and because of scatter he only killed one a turn with the encircle thing. Well, with the zombies bogged down, grimnack and ornak were both close enough to give my orcs +2(height and chompy) on Utgar dice. Those zombies were destroyed. And then he sent Cyprien in, but he had horrible roles and had to retreat. Most zombies were in his starting zone, so I used the time to amass my forces across the river. Once in position, grimnack picked cyprien off of the wall, and the orcs destroyed everything. I think he only killed about 40 points all game. Sorry about that.

Fourth and final match against Tomyumgai's son on Sidewinder(his army: 4 redcoats, some tsa, Kozuke, guilty)
I had been wanting to play on this map, but not against an army like that. Redcoats eat melee for breakfast. Well, my roles were horrible, and he was positioned so I could only attack with one orc at a time. And he never killed anything. My luck finally ran out. I started getting REALLY annoyed with this battle because he kept on checking my dice and such. "Are you sure you got two shields? Show me" "You didn't get 2 skulls...oh wait you did." Not harmful or anything, it just ate at my nerves. That, and I was loosing pretty badly. I swear that he attacked 5 times in a lot of turns too. He kept on saying he only attacked 3 times, but I was sure it was 4. I think I'm becoming senile at a young age.
Tomyumgai, your son is not an easy player to beat. I don't know how you do it at your home!

So I came in 9th and picked up sentinels and Monks. It's my first pack, so I guess I'll be making an order from house mouse soon.

Again, I had a blast everyone. It was great to just talk with people again, and to be able to say that I met the next Dr. Weirdscaper!

So we headed out to Maryland for another tourny. I was really worried I was going to stink as bad as I did last time, but I guess my army had different plans for me.

The match started out with me and my cousin poking at each other, and ended in a one-sided victory for the cause. I sent the stingers out to meet his oncoming retchets, and I took them in a pitched battle. Next, the stingers/Marro warriors met with Torky, and with a little help from the Gruts, the giant fell while inflicting little damage. Iskra also fell. After this, I got pretty lucky and killed Krug without much of a fight at all. After that, it was only a matter of cleanup.

ROUND 2:
Opponent: Carl
Opponent’s Army: Airborne Elite, Sentinels x2, Sgt. Drake(SotM)
Map: Ice Blossom

This one started off insane. He dropped the Airborne Elite the very first round AND gained initiative! He blew away a squad of Gruts and a squad of Stingers, but besides that I got lucky and killed two of them the next turn. My remaining squad of stingers took height and completely ravaged from then on. All but two sentinels fell to their wrath, and after that it was basically over. Although Drake did put up a decent fight, he and the remaining sentinels were overwhelmed and swarmed to doom.

ROUND 3:

Opponent’s Army: Arrow Gruts x2, Swog Riders x4, Mimring, Krug, Marro Warriors
Map: Marr Highway

This match started off with both sides holding back, him popping his warriors on height, me popping my stingers in an ambush position while placing my warriors in a strategic position. We poked at each other for a little. Finally, he made the first move off of a VERY long turn(One of his many(It’s okay, Pete )). He whiffed, and on the next few turns I totally ruined his day with a smashing which was spear-headed by the super stingers who just would NOT die. It was an epic battle in which the amazing stingers dominated. After the tournament, when he wound up at about 17th(?), he gave a special thanks to me…

*Facepalm* Oh come on...bad map for my army..amazing map for his...just terrible.

He kept Taelord back and just sniped my face clear off with his super stingers. The highlights of this match was the once again amazing performance of the double stingers, and when my last 4 gruts ravaged the map, killing probably twice their worth. However, the valiant effort was not to be and I wound up losing pretty badly.

3-1, +1550 Points

I wound up 6th, which was a much better performance than my last tournament. I had a ton of fun too, and picked up some rats for my prize. Big thanks to Clancampbell(And the store owner...most notably for the deodorant in the bathroom. Wow.. )

My older cousin got 11th and went 2-2.
My younger cousin got 19th and went 1-3.
My dad got last place at 0-4, but he didn't really mind; he still had a ton of fun. We all did!

Game 1 vs. drewcula

Zelrig got initiative and took out 2 stingers, but then I flew Cyprien up to him and got a 19 and 20 for chill touch in 2 turns! Stingers took the hill and mopped up.

Rats combined with the orcs took out several stingers and Cyprien, but I was able to take them out and mop up the MW.

In the beginning there was a battle between stingers and MW, but I took them out and advanced to a little hill where the nagrubs, Tor-kul-na, and chompy fell to the stingers. Then I mopped up the orcs.

Great, just the army I didn’t want to face. It started out even. The tide slowly began to turn in his favor as he nearly wiped out my stingers, but Cyprien wreaked havoc on Laglor, KMA, and the blasts. He finally took Cyprien out when I accidentally move him next to a gladiatron! Duh! The marro warriors did ther damage until it was down to a KMA and Otonashi vs. 1 stinger! The stinger could engage the Krav if he got initiative. But, I rolled a 5 and he rolled a 6! He was able to play keep away and finish me off.
It was one of the most exciting games I’ve ever played!

First off I want to start off by saying a big and hearty thanks to Clancambpell for hosting a great event. We had a blast and were glad to finally be able to come down for an event. Also thanks to Aerindane for all of the work he put in organizing the matches. Thanks as well should go to Rennaisance Games for the great location (although it was torture being around all of those great games and not having any cash to buy em ).
The army that I ran for the event was Taelord, Zettian Guards, 4x Stingers, Isamu.
Now for my battle reports.

I started off my day by playing The Sleeper (one of my friends that I came down with)on Mole Hills (the map that I supplied for the event). The Sleeper had Cyprien, Marro Warriors and 5x Zombies (all of my pieces. I guess I could have stayed home )
Mole hills couldn't have been a better map for me. I was able to position Taelord on a hill with the Zettians in front as his shields. I was also able to put the Stingers in prime position to utilize Taelords aura. The Stingers managed to cut down the Zombies fairly easily (although one did get through to kill a Zettian). He then brought out the Marro Warriors who absolutely drove me nuts. They took out a squad and a half of Stingers and cloned several times before I was finally able to take them out. Cyprien finally got involved in the action and was a wrecking ball (when is he not?). He carved through my remaining Stingers with little resistance and came after Taelord and the remaining Zettian. Tae flew off to a better location while the vampire tried to take out the Zettian. The guard held tough and allowed Tae to get to a prime location. After killing the guard the vamp came after Tae, fortunately for me, the Sleepers dice rolling failed him and he was unable to put more than one wound at a time on Tae with his chilling touch. It came down to a 4 wound Tae and a 4 wound Cyprien. I finally managed to roll 3 hits with my attack and Cyp only managed one shield! A crazy way to start my day, although I won, I thought there was little chance my army would hold up.

Round two came and now I was playing the other friend that I came down with, Peteparkerh (really, I could have just stayed at home) on Turret Rocks. Pete had Mimring, Krug, 2x Arrow Gruts, 4x Swog Rider, Marro Warriors.
Pete led off with his Marro Warriors who killed 6 of my Stingers before I was able to take them out. This early in the game, I knew it was already over. Mimring came out next with the archers and killed two more of my Stingers before I was able to take him down. Now my Stingers went on a rampage. Backed by Tae's, who was now on the mountain, and his aura, they were invincible. They cut easily through the Archers and the Swogs, leaving him little choice but to bring Krug out. A mistake on his part was that he decided to try and chase Tae off of the moutain. Tae simply flew out of his way and the Stingers cut him down before he had a chance to inflict any damage, after that it was a simple matter of finishing off the remaining archer who was left behind. I really thought that this was not going to go my way, but I pulled it out. The Stingers proved their worth.

I'm now 2-0 with 1000 points

The third round came and I was matched up this time with Arcus on Flash Fire. This was my first opportunity to play him, but I knew that I would have my work cut out for me as he is a very strong player who places high at every event that he goes to (I believe he wins some as well). His army was: Aubrien Archers, Venoc Warlord, Krav, Elite Onyx Vipers, Venoc Vipers.
He led off with his Aubriens and managed a couple of frenzy's with them. The only proble for him was that I got super hot in my defense rolls. However many hit's he rolled, I rolled exactly that amount of shields and he was able to do little damage to my army. The Krav came out next and was much the same, while he did manage to kill a couple of Stingers with them, they also went down very easily. Two of the Krav actually went down to ranged attacks. The vipers managed to kill a couple of Stingers as well (one managed a hit on Taelord) before going down. It came down to the Venoc Warlord who proved to be a troublesome target. The dice rolling changed dramatically as the Warlord went on a rampage. He tore through my remaining stingers as well as my Zettians, leaving only Taelord and Isamu. However, Tae was able to finish him off and give me the victory. A very strange game where dice rolling went both ways, fotunately for me, it went more my way at the beginning.

Now 3-0 with 1500 points and stunned at how well my army is performing.

My final match was against wk4c on Ember Canyon Road. He also came into the match undefeated and played this army: Grimnak, Marro Warriors, 2x Stingers, 3x Heavy Gruts.

We both started out by trying to win the right to stay on the high ground. Taelord's aura was a big influence here as I had a decided advantage in fire power. I managed to kill the Marro Warriors while losing only one Stinger. After the Warriors were dispatched, he came charging down the road with his Orcs and Chompy. Chompy proved such an inviting target with his head peaking out over the top of the canyon. He did chomp one Stinger, but was cut down very quickly. The Orcs beat there heads against the Zettians, who were guarding my start zone, but were unable to break through before getting cut down themselves. His Stingers came out next and managed to do some damage before being eliminated. Finally he came at me with a desperate charge with his last remaining Gruts. They caused a lot of damage and made things interesting for a while before finally falling to the Stingers fire power.

I was now 4-0 with 2000 points!

I was tied with Tom at 4-0, but due to my advantage in points, I took first place! I was unsure how an army would do with Taelord as it's center, but the Stingers backed by his aura are a devestating force. I would have loved the opportunity to play Tom and his Tron based army to find out who would really have been the champ, but we ran out of time (lucky for you Tom )

Again this was a great day and a great event. I am looking forward to playing with you all again.

Hmmm...did anyone happen to find a rtff tree as you were leaving? I just realized that I am missing one of mine. It might have just rolled under the Sofa at my house, but I've looked pretty hard and I haven't found it. It will be easy to identify from the band of grass that I customized my pieces with.

Can you all do me a favor and just check your bin for any furry trees? Yuo might have accidently picked it up as you were leaving...or it's under my couch. I don't really know.
