Game #2
My Groks and MBS zipped across the, map. MBS failed the Stare on a Zettian but didn't need it. Down goes a Zettian, round 1, turn 2. This should be easy so I thought. Galvornman's DW9000 headed over towards my Marros so I marked it with MBS and put two Groks on it. Roll of 5 dice, blocked. Roll of 6 dice (height), blocked again. Again and again DW9000 kept blocking numerous attacks. I've never had such a hard time destroying this guy. Meanwhile, as I'm trying to take down DW9000 and DW8000, galvornman uses his Ninjas to take out my entire army!! They moved all over the place and got to my Krav Maga before I could take some ranged shots at them.

DW9000 and Zettians did no damage to me. DW8000 put a wound on MBS and I think took out a Grok. When I was down to just NGS, his DW7000 put two wounds on NGS with its self-destruct. But other than that, I lost everything else to the Ninjas. Well played galvornman. (Next time I'll have a Special Attack ready for those pesky Ninjas )

I've played Groks x2 with MBS and NGS 6 times now, and I'm 4 wins, 2 losses with them.

Game #8
This game went my way for four reasons; getting glyphs quickly with EOV, better than average attack dice (I did less than average in Game #2), got the Frenzy on a regular basis, and Clarissimus couldn't get his AE to Drop. He used the Nagrubs very effectively, taking out some Aubriens and healing TorKulNa nicely. But it was Frenzy-ing Aubriens that did most of the damage for me. I had maybe four turns the whole game where Frenzy failed, otherwise I always got one Frenzy, and once (or maybe it was twice) where I got two Frenzies. My Vipers also Frenzied well on the 3 times I used them, putting wounds on TorKulNa and recapturing a glyph after my EOV were destroyed. Clarissimus never got a chance to use Kaemon Awa, since two Frenzy-ing Aubriens shot him down while still in his start zone.

If Clarissimus' AE had dropped (especially within the first 3 rounds), it would have been a totally different game.

I've done Venoc Warlord with Vipers and Aubriens 3 or 4 times and I don't recall ever loosing with this combo yet.

Game #9
This game was over so quickly, I barely remember what happened. Baxas took four shots with Poisonous Acid, twice on Capt America, twice on an Onmicron, and killed nothing. But the Omnicrons put plenty of wounds on Braxas. I was at 5 wounds with plans to connect with Kelda, but lost initiative and lost Braxas at beginning of next round (3 skull attack and zero sheilds for Braxas).

I remember Spencer's Sonlen getting wounded heavily quickly, but hung on for a while with one life left -- out surviving his Syvarris.

Game #10
I guess Spencer and I better do some practicing before entering any team tourneys... Another game and another defeat. This time the game lasted longer and my Minions did their fare share of damage againts Windy_City_Hawk's 10th Regiment. But 3 squads of them was too many. I eventually lost my last couple of Minions to Clarissimus' Kaemon Awa. Guilty did no damage before being destroyed.

Spencer made the mistake of grouping his Ninjas together and Clarissimus used Zelrig to destroy 2 of 3 with one firey breath. His DW8000 killed a couple enemy squad figures and then got locked into engagement by Zelrig. So Spencer kept using Deadeye Dan's Sharpshooter special, and after 5 attempts it worked!! Down went a healthy Zelrig. But it was too late. DW8000 was destroyed and I was out. Still enough 10th Regiment left plus Kaemon Awa to finish off Deadeye and the last Ninja.

Good games all around. Definitely enjoyed getting in some team games.

Re: Chicagoland Heroscaping 2009-02-22

Boy, what a great day of scaping! I was worn out after 3 games (and a bit of a headache), but enjoyed chatting with everyone, watching games, and drooling over GaryLASQ's collection.

My first game (DIE DEATHWALKER DIE) and only victory was really a credit to the ninjas more than the Deathwalkers. Sure, DW7K got in his explosion special to help kill NeGokSa, but really, the DWers weren't that much of a factor, save as distraction. If played repeatedly, I wouldn't be surprised if GaryLASQ would win this one more often than I would.

Second game against Jexick, WOW. I was rocked. After giving it some thought, mistake #1 was underestimating how quickly those heavy gruts could move with Grimnak. Grimnak chomped everything he could, and the heavy gruts did the rest. Mistake #2 was not getting DW9K and DW8K both on the bridges to block movement. I should have recognized that without any ranged attacks, Jexick would have been limited to 2 attacks per DW, in which I might have stood a chance. Granted, DW8K fell early, but DW9K could have stood a better chance if he was on the bridge, rather than being flanked by 4 gruts (with height!). This one might be winnable for me, but it would still be a long shot. Well done my friend.

Third game (team game), came down to a silly 1 rat vs. 1 shade, and a Marcus Decimus Gallus with 5 wounds (and 1 roman archer?). Surprisingly close, and very satisfying.

Thanks again to GaryLASQ, Spencer, and Guy for hosting!

Drink, drink and forget.

Re: Chicagoland Heroscaping 2009-02-22

Game 1:
This was my FIRST EVER VICTORY out of the 3 outings that I have been to that Gary has hosted! I had never played a team game, but think I did OK. The Tagawa Samurai (which I have never used) worked well - especially after getting a coupld of Blood Lust markers!

Game 4:
This was the only 1-on-1 game that I played, and it didn't go to well! I had alot of range, but had alot of cards to split order markers for, and I also decided to split my army up which negated some of it's effectiveness. Spencer played the Wolves well, and rolled well also.

Game 7:
This was the MOST FUN game of the day for me! Spencer and I seemed to be going up against tough odds with Krug and Nilfheim on the opposing team. Krug stormed across the battle field pretty quickly, but surprisingly did not do much damage, as Jex decided not to use him (lucky my team!) Galvornman lead with the Rats, and waited to send out Nilfheim, which gave us some time to position our army. When Nilfheim finally made it to the fight (which was pretty much on the door step of our start zone) my 10th and Spencer's Warden took him out with very few casualties. After that we slowly wittled down thier army, but they also wittled down ours! As galvornman stated, the battle came down to 3 characters and our team won only due to the number of attacks! It was a really good battle!

I'll discuss my other 2 battles in another post when I have time.

Thanks Gary/Guy for hosting, and I had a great time! Can't wait for the next one!
