AliasQTip's Custom Weapon Cards

After reading a few inspiring threads (listed below), I decided it might be fun to create purchasable weapons for use in HeroScape battles. These weapons would only be available for Unique Heroes and would be used instead of attacking. I’ve included a sample weapon card below (the only one I’ve completed so far) and a list of other weapon concepts. When printed, the final cards are business card sized.

I’ve created this thread to get input from the HeroScapers community. Comments and suggestions are welcome. If you foresee any problems the cards might cause or wish to suggest alternative weapon handlings, modifications, new weapons, etc. please feel free to post your observations. Thanks.



First Wave (20 Cards):
Spoiler Alert!


Second Wave (10 NEW Weapons):

Boots of Valda - Move +2. Attack 0. 10 Points.

While wearing the Boots of Valda your figure may add 2 to its move number

Sniper Rifle - Range 8. Attack 1 (Special Attack). 20 Points.

Choose a non-adjacent small or medium figure to attack. The chosen figure cannot roll defense dice when attacked with the Sniper Rifle. Your figure may not use the Sniper Rifle if it moved this turned.

Phantom Cloak - Attack 0. Defense 0. 10 Points.

While wearing the Phantom Cloak your figure may move through all figures and is never attacked when leaving an engagement.

Heavy Armor Move -1. Defense +2. 15 Points.

While wearing the Heavy Armor add 2 to your figures defense die roll but subtract 1 from its move number. Your figure cannot fly while wearing the Heavy Armor.

Ring of Negation - Attack 0. Defense 0. 50 Points.
While wearing the Ring of Negation your figure can be targeted but will not be affected by an enemy’s special attack.

Pickpocket Gloves 13 - Range 1. Attack 0. 10 Points.

Before attacking, choose an adjacent figure. Roll the 20-sided die. If you roll 1-12 nothing happens. If you roll 13 or higher you may take an equipment card from the figure and replace it with this card.

Plasma Focus Cannon - Range 6. Attack Special. 45 Points.

When attacking with the Plasma Focus Cannon roll X attack dice, where X is equal to 7 minus the distance to the opponent.

Fear Stone - Range 1. Attack 1. 20 Points.

Instead of attacking choose an adjacent enemy figure and roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 1 destroy your figure. If you roll 2 or higher the chosen figure must disengage to the nearest non-adjacent space. Roll for disengagement as necessary.

Chain-Blade 14 - Range 2. Attack 2 (Special Attack). 50 Points.

After moving and before attacking with the Chain-Blade, choose a small or medium figure to attack and roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 14 or higher the chosen figure receives 1 wound and may roll no more than 1 die for Defense when attacked with the Chain-Blade this turn.

Skeleton Key 11 - Range 1. Attack 0. 15 Points.

Before moving and while adjacent to the Castle Door roll the 20-sided die. If you roll an 11 or higher you may open the door at any time during the rest of your turn.


I really got the idea for these generic weapons after reading the following threads:

Personally I think the whole principle of 'upgrading' your characters like this just isn't Heroscape.
Then there's more practical problems. I believe that you can't just add things like range to existing characters without totally breaking the game (imagine Concan or Raelyn with a gatling gun)

But please don't let that stop you from playing it the way you enjoy it.

I think that this idea may be quite fun to use sometimes. The only thing I'd have to say is that gatling minigun is a bit too underpriced. Just thing of NGS with that.

And these points can be whatever is left over in points?

It can also have potential to change an unplayable unit into something very playable?

This idea has been employed in the warhammer 'universe' for decades. It's not entirely impossible that WOTC has already heard about it.

I've never played Warhammer or really any other RPG/Strategy type game. So I wasn't really aware of the idea. I thought it would be cool if WOTC produced something like this: Baseball/trading card sized HeroScape weapons cards. Easy to manufacture and easy to sell.

Hmmmm...... very good!!!! I like them!!!! Here's an idea I've been thinking of all day:

Grand Halberd -range-2 attack-6 40 points
When attacking with this weapon, you may attack up to 3 figures within range.



and for the name? How about Helfire gun? Huh? Like it?

First off I would like to say AliasQTip you make very fun Hasbro-scenario-like maps that have been fun for me to play on. Keep on making those.

Second, its cool that my Selene Custom thread has inspired you to make Custom Weapon Cards.

I got the general idea from the Heroscape Codex Online Magazine Issue #3, page 50. It might be helpful for you to check it out.

Anyway, keep on making those maps looking forward to playing more.

In addition to weapon cards how about making spell cards (Thinking Chardris, Emmiroon, Kyntela) for spell using races like elves, humans, etc. and maybe general equipment cards like body armor, nightvision goggles, mine sensor, Jet pack (Gain Flying), etc. You probably only want to make them available to specific races, classes, and special scenarios. These are just a couple ideas I have for you.

Thanks for the nice comments and for the Codex reference, supergen777. I've got all of the Codex issues stored on my 'puter but haven't looked them over in a while. It looks like there are some nice ideas in there too. I'll have to look it over again.

Wow! I came up with the same idea...pay up!!!

Hah, I like it! I agree the gatt should be a little more pricey (think DW8000) and perhaps, as something for both of us, it should be rather expensive (Raelin with a gatt), but not too much; the points used cause a smaller army.

I had actually thought of Custom Robo and Samus Aran, and from there, basically from Samus, I realized it could be done for everyone. It's a bit tricky, but could be fun! I think this new aspect is very Heroscape!
