The Sniper Podge

I recently used this army in a tournament

x2 Omnicrons 200
x1 Raelin 80
x1 Cyprien 150
x1 Sonya 45
x1 Isamu 10
x1 Otonashi 10
Total-495

It took down a 4th Mass/Knight army, a Hive Supremacy Army, and a Vydar ranged army on Graveyard of the Lost Souls (available in my map thread, http://www.heroscapers.com/community...t=16639&page=3 {Shameless Plug})

Any thoughts/feedback on the army?

I'm gonna have to say its more of a vampire podge rather than snipers (not trying to rain on parades or anything). It looks like the vamps would have been doing most of the work. Of course, I've been wrong before and am curious as to how you actually played the army.

Okay.
1st game- Snipers set up on the hill with Raelin and took out 4th Mass 1 by 1. Cyprien went to tie up the heros. When the knights were left and trying to make it around the battlefield using the road my snipers went into the sandpit and to the smaller hills, claiming victory.
2nd game- Snipers start off the same way against the Krav and Laglor, giving the monkey a few wounds. Cyprien then goes to take care of Krav and Nakitas. Then the snipers cleaned up the rest of the units.
3rd game- Snipers claim the hill and take out SuBakNa early. Cyprien goes to help out with the stingers and take out the Marro Warriors and NGS. Snipers then take out the remaining Romans and Nagrubs.

x1 Alastair

2nd army
KMA
Nakitas
Laglor
Blasts

IMO, the Snipers killed the bulk of the armies, with Cyprien as intimidation/a wall for the snipers.

I'm really confused by your opponent(s).

1) The Omnis outrange the 4th and Sir G/KoW can afford to take some attrition heading into contact. Can't figure out why the 4th got exposed before the KoW had finished their romp.

2) Opposite issue here. With Laglor, the KMA and Nakitas outrange the Omnis - and the Nakitas make their shots truly impossible. How you got height against Laglor baffles me. The Blasties are a weird choice for this army too.

3) This one is the first army where I can see the Omnis shining. They can get height and outrange their foes. None of the melee here really scares them.

In all, my feel is that your opponent suboptimally managed their resources allowing the Omnis to have ideal conditions in gaining height. In particular, the loss by army two demonstrates almost criminal negligence.

In a 500 point match I'd put my 4th mass/KOW/Gilbert/Eldgrim/Concan against that army all day long and twice on Sunday. Same with the Laglor army - no way the Omnis would live long against my KMA with a 9 range and stealth dodge.

If you look at the map, then you can see why. If you get initiative in the first round, you can potentially get range before army #2. And Cyprien was the one going after the nakitas, not the crons.

Actually, I can't. Without any build instructions I don't know where the start zones are. If they start in the grey regions, then perhaps the biggest problem is a map which gives a massive advantage to the player who gets initiative in the first round. In that case, I suppose I should praise your luck in getting initiative three times in a row and call it good.

yes it is in the rocks. I would have build instructions, but I am not allowed to upload maps into the downloads section, and do not know where else I could put it.
Im going to try this army on some other maps as well though. Ill let you know how they perform.

Honestly, without any blockers I don't see the Omnicrons doing well, especially without Taelord because they are now completely reliant on height advantage, which engagement could mitigate rather quickly.

For me, a Sniper Podge includes Taelord and, 99% of the time, Taelord only sees competitive play in Sniper Podge (there are always exceptions to every rule).

I don't think the Snipers necessarily need Taelord. They still have a 50% chance of throwing two skulls without any boosts - no other ranged squad can say that. Plus, against 3+ defense dice (which most units in tourneys have nowadays), one skull attacks are blocked more often than not, making them moot. Plus, their 7 range is greater than all of the ranged common powerhouses (except Blasts, but they need melee too).

Their main problem is their point cost. I think they really need Raelin to stay alive longer, but they can succeed without Taelord IMO.

That simply isn't true. Throwing three dice:

0 skulls = 12.5%
1 skull = 37.5%
2 skulls = 37.5%
3 skulls = 12.5%

So any time you throw three attack dice you have a 50% chance of 2 or more skulls.
