Kato's Kats vs Carr's Crunk (Battle report with pictures!)

Battle Report: Carr’s Crunk vs Kato’s Kats
Carr’s Crunk (Carr, Krav, 2x Microcorps, X17= 500) met Kato’s Kats (Kato, 3x Ashigaru Yari, 3x Ashigaru Harquebus=500) on the Molehills battlefield with two randomly selected glyphs. I allowed 25 starting spaces for Kato’s army, figuring one Yari wasn’t worth all that much.


Round 1: Carr’s army wins initiative. Microcorps and Krav move toward the Glyphs. Kato spreads his Harquebus and Yari out, with the Harquebus taking control of the Glyph of Ivor. The Harquebus hit one of the agents, but his Stealth Armor saves him.


The Ashigaru battle the Microcorps Agents who take refuge in the water.



Round 2: Kato’s army wins initiative. The Yari seize the Glyph of Gerda. Thanks to some terrible dice rolling, two Microcorps Agents fall, as well as one Krav. Kato’s army loses one Yari, two Harquebus, and the Glyph of Ivor.

The Yari hold the glyph against the Krav.



Round 3: Carr wins initiative. Microcorps and Krav continue to move forward, and Agent Carr leaves his starting zone. They take out one Yari and one Harquebus. Kato moves to a new vantage point to maintain clear sight of his troops, and thanks to WTF, the Harquebus manage to slay another Krave and two more Microcorps. Carr’s army is already dwindling.

Kato looks out over the battlefield.


Round 4: Carr wins initiative, and he and X17 move into combat range. The last Krav takes the Glyph of Ivor, but falls to the Harquebus, who reclaim the glyph. The Yari attack Carr and X17, but can do no damage.

The Harquebus take aim.



Round 5: Carr again wins initiative, and he and X17 manage to take out two Yari and a Harquebus, but Carr suffers three wounds from the Harquebus’ relentless WTF volleys.

Agent Carr tries to rally his troops.



Round 6: Kato wins initiative, and the Harquebus finish off Carr and inflict four wounds on X17, who manages to slay three of Kato’s charges.

X17 swats away the pesky Yari.

Round 7: The Yari encircle and slay the last Microcorps, while the Harquebus take down X17.






Summary: A devastating defeat for Carr’s Crunk. The agents should have taken to the high ground and used their height bonus and superior range instead of relying on the defense bonus granted by the water. A defensive strategy would have been better for the outnumbered and outgunned Crunk.

I have played at least 2 games with the Kato's Kats army, with little succes. The yari just cant seem to stay alive long enough and the harquebus dont do so well unless they are on a hill.

And it did...

cool report, and cool flocking. My local gamestore has three packs of ashigaru and Heroes of the Molten sea, so I might just try my luck with these guys. If you can keep them alive, 8 activations per turn is awesome.

If you can keep them alive, indeed. In a 520 point game(What I normally play), they die very very fast. They do have an interesting concept, that can also be fun.

You should buy them. They are fun for casual play. The harquebus are pretty good.

Every time I play with Kato, the other players squads get devistated. 8 attacks of 2 or 3, even 4 if you can get the harquebus on hight, or 6 if you feel the need for encircle. A good offence is a good defence, right?
