Re: stubob's maps

Decent! I like how you chose to go with the basic swamp theme, and didn't throw in a bunch of terrain that didn't belong (like snow). I personally like a lot of height on my maps, but still this one looks like it would be fun to play on.

Re: stubob's maps

Nice, sorta reminds me of a tourney map I saw at a game day that the group I play with had.
I like the placement of the trees right infront of the towers, so you can get +def yet get sniped by people on the towers.

Re: stubob's maps

Your map has a nice look on it. Good job! What is the "strange" sand tiles, btw ?
The road/castle top tiles do add to the look, but not to the game play as they won't be utilized enough. I think the map favors range a bit. The two columns are a bit close to the starting zones, so, agent Skahen will have a good time setting her camp up there . It is difficult for one side wants to attack the column on the other side due to the water tiles around it. I would switch the positions of the two columns and the trees in the middle of the map. I think the look will be kept, but the playability will be improved. At least people have to be more careful sending their low defense range units to take the tower because they could face the other side units before getting there.
Overall, very promising! Keep it up !

Re: stubob's maps

Very cool looking. The road is placed so that to won't create a central spot of motion, but instead it will get play to the side. the only critique I have with that mechanic is people might pass over it without ever getting the bonus.

I agree with Long Heroscaper on the castle. You could also turn the ladder away, so it is in between the two water tiles, where the shrub is now. you could then position that shrub elsewhere, such as at the road section.

I like your flocked sand, though here's my critique for that. why did you only do so little? It looks pretty good (these kind of things always look better in person) so I would go on and do the rest of your sand. also, try painting the inner ruts of the hex, similar to Grishnakh's tiles. It gives it a more natural look.

Nice, I like the mountain dew in the background, adds to the stress of building a map.

Re: stubob's maps

Great suggestions guys. I was concerned about not getting the bonus from the road but I also didnt want to add another expansion. Im going to try some tweaks with it when I get home from work.

The "strange" sand tiles are sanded tiles. I only did the sand from 1 ROTV and it was just a trial. I plan on redoing them in the future. I just haven't had time for customs right now. I been wanting to play more.

Mt. Dew is what keeps me playing until 1-2 am and then getting up at 6am for work

Re: stubob's maps

I was going to upload the building instructions for this but found out I need to be a site supporter. Not a problem since I planned on becoming one anyways. But I didn't plan on doing that until the end of the month. So Ill just have to wait to upload the instructions then. But here's a Virtual Scape image for now. I'm going to be playing on this tonight so I'll post more pictures once I get it built.

Sets: SotM, FotA, 2 TJ

How do you do start zones in VS? Is it something to do with the personal tiles? I haven't messed with that part yet.

Pics as promised. Will play on it tomorrow.

Re: stubob's maps

Yet another map. This one I don't remember doing but found it in my folders. So I thought Id share it.

Swamp Temple: Sets used- SotM, 2 TJ, FotA

Oops after getting this already to post I noticed Im missing ladders and possibly battlements. Ill get that fixed after bit. Also Ive decided on becoming a site supporter sooner than planned. I just need to get to my friends house to use his paypal account. So Ill be able to get building instructions up sooner. As always any criticism is welcome. Im new to map building. I have an open mind so Im willing to hear any suggestions from anyone.

Re: stubob's maps

I think for starter zones in VS you go to the character placement screen and it has the color dots.
