Grade my new Batman card

Hello all. I am a new visitor to this board, although I am not a new Heroscape player. Anyway, I have made a new Batman Card that I would like the community's opinion on. I tried to focus on and capture the elusive qualities that make Batman so great. My only concern is that his attack may be too high, but I tried to offset it all by making his point value pretty high. Also, I used the standard Utility Belt; I am not sure where it came from. What are everyone's thoughts?

Re: Grade my new Batman card

I would have to say way too powerfull. His Utility Belt is way too powerful with the ability to use all. I would say just slim it down to one ability and put that on his card. I would also just go with either Martial Artist or Cape& Cowl since both make him very powerfull. Yes, powerful nice, but I wouldn't want a figure drafted everygame because of his power. Also wach the gramar on Cape and Cowl (second word) and I am Vengance, it should be on the attacker, for example.

I like all the power ideas yet having all of them together makes for one powerful figure.

Thats just my

That utility belt is mine, and was meant to be used with my custom specifically.

Cool. I was unsure who to attribute the Utility Belt card to, so I made sure to mention that in my first post. Anyway, GreyOwl, what do you think of my Batman card? I know it is a more powerful card than any Batman I have seen, but I tried to offset that with a higher point cost.

My is that this is one powerful card. In fact, I would say that it is too powerful for its own good. Maybe without the utility belt it would be brought under control.

Re: Grade my new Batman card

You may not want to use terms that are not official rules or wordings. Things as "rear attack penalty" and "knockback" aren't defined in the Heroscape rules or on your card, so it isn't clear exactly what they mean. I agree that he seems too powerful, relative to official figures, for the character. Note that the Utility Belt I created wasn't meant for unlimited use - on my Batman card, it limits the number of times the Utility Belt can be used.

By the way, I meant for my initial admission that I did not know who the Utility Belt belonged to to sound more like an apology. Re-reading it, I'm not sure it comes across that way. So anyway, I am sorry for not doing the necessary research to properly attribute the Utility Belt card.

The "knockback" and "rear attack" rules are house rules for the group I play with, chiefly Crispy66, KaPo, and others. I did not consider that they did not exist in the official rules.

Anyway, I'm going to re-work this card a bit and post it again later tonight most likely.

Thanks to all, by the way, for the great feedback.

Re: Grade my new Batman card

Here are my new Batman cards. I modified the Utility Belt a bit. I tired to make it my own card, rather than a rip-off of GreyOwl's Utility Belt, but when you think of Batman's gadgets, you can't go without the Batarang, the Grapple Gun, etc. I hope it is different enough to be my own card.

I also took away one defense die, and eliminated the ranged attack defense from Martial Artist.

I also kept the language specific to our house rules, as our house is where I play.

Re: Grade my new Batman card

No problem with using my card. As long as you're up front that it wasn't your original creation, I don't mind.

For the new version of the card, I like the picture a lot better, and I love the name "Dark Trappings". The rest is hard to judge because I'm not familiar with some of the house rules you reference (especially the one involving searching buildings). But my impression is that he's still too powerful when compared to official figures. I would either tone down his abilities, or raise his cost. As it stands, point-wise he's significantly higher than Iron Man, and I don't think Batman is that powerful.

Re: Grade my new Batman card

I have not rated customs before, and I am relatively new to Marvelscape. My initial impression is not that he is too powerful -- I honestly don't think he would be that impressive a figure against others like the Hulk (which I know is more expensive) -- but imho he is way too complicated. The utility belt is a neat idea and I'm not sure how it was originally designed, but it seems primarily useless. The ranged attack of 3 is great, because he does not have one, but I don't see using many of the other abilities. Reducing a figure's defense by 1 (especially a figure like Thanos who has a 7 dice defense roll) would be a waste of an order marker. If I was close enough to use my special ranged attack, I would rather cause a wound. The same goes for restricting movement. I don't see how often that is worth not just trying to kill the guy -- all the marvelscape figures have some sort of ranged attack. Being able to attack all adjacent figures with 5 dice is a bit too powerful. Counterstrike and a slightly higher defense would provide the effect of martial arts -- however, this would make the stealth dodge ability a bit too powerful. rolling 2 shields on 5 dice to block all attacks seems fair, but if you were to increase the number of dice by one or two, that might make it unfair.

Overall, I think simplifying the abilities makes the game more fun. Sure, the Hulk could have had a throw ability, but they decided on a couple very effective abilities to recreate the effect of the hulk. Overdoing a figure like this will assure he does not get played.
